  1. This is exactly why I went ahead and pulled the trigger during HLJ's last sale to go ahead and get the 17S. I was hoping they'd sell the fast packs separately, and I wanted instant gratification without having to wait for the 17D and then have to wait for it to go on sale. And I agree with OptionZero. I really hope they re release super and strike parts for the VF-1. The after market is just to gouged
  2. Nippon Yasan has them for preorder. It looks like their policy is that you don't have to pay until up to one day before the release date. You'll get the invoice to pay two to three weeks before the release date
  3. I that about getting this since the regular YF-29 was more expensive, but then NY had their latest price bump.
  4. How is NY for broken parts? IE will they contact Yamato or Bandai to get a replacement shoulder piece or something that breaks?
  5. You should definitely post pics of that sometime! I've been mostly collecting the Star Wars sets lately, but I also have several vintage from classic space, space police 1 and 2, m tron, and UFO. I've also designed a couple in the digital designer back when you could use it to order the bricks. LCAD is another great and powerful program for designing, and I've used that to output a brick list that I've then bought off of bricklink
  6. The 11B was one of my first modern Yamato valks along with a 1/48 Max Super VF-1J. The 11B is still one of my favorites in terms of the basic design and how well they built it. The only bad thing about the basic design is that without fast packs, the only weapons it has is the gun pod and the head laser, not counting any underwing hard points. But, that seems to be one of the evolutionary features they put into the VF-19 was the internal missiles. Even if it was supposed to be the predecessor to the 19, I just still like the deisgn of the 11 better.
  7. HLJ always just sounded more on the up and up than other places, especially after hearing about people getting replacement parts from them but getting hassled by other dealers.
  8. If you look at the write ups on Macross Mecha Manual for the VF-17D and the VF-171 (cannon fodder, not EX or Super), the VF-17D has more powerful engines and is a little lighter (empty weight). Because of that, the VF-17D has a better thrust to weight ratio than the 171. It doesn't list any stats for the basic VF-171's maneuvering thrusters, but the EX version says that it's the same as the VF-17. However, when you compare the VF-17D to the VF-171EX, the 171 has better engines and a higher thrust to weight ratio. M3 doesn't have the stats for the super pack engines, but the 171 may still have a slight edge because of the increase in the thrust of the main engines. When you look at the line art, the 171 has more extra engines on the super parts, and considering it's a newer design, I would guess that they have a higher output than the super packs on the 17. So, it looks like, ultimately, the cannon fodder version of the 171 probably isn't better than the 17, but the EX and super versions probably are, or at least are comparable to a 17 with FAST packs.
  9. Here's my collection so far. It's a slightly older pic by a couple of weeks cause its missing my Yamato VF-17S. I also have a Yamato SDF-1 on top of a bookshelf in the basement. Most of my collecting is Transformers and Lego.
  10. I actually really like the Gerwalk mode on this one. It's a little nose heavy, but it seems that the more modern ones like the 25 and especially the 29 have a super big butt that would make Sir Mix-a-Lot sing about them.
  11. My order with the VF-17S and another 1A made it through last Friday without a hitch, but I did get a call from FedEx asking about the two freebies that didn't have a declaration of price on them. We'll have to feedback to HLJ that the next time they do freebies like that they need to report something so people don't get hassled at the least or have their packages stopped at customs at the worst.
  12. Congrats. You'll have a good time putting all of the little filler pieces on ;-) There's one piece on the sprue that isn't used for some reason, so don't panic when you get to the end and there's one piece left.
  13. Did you check the pinned threads in the customization section? I wanna say there was someone that posted that they either had scans or something to that effect.
  14. You did the right thing! Dress it up as a lamp!
  15. It's got a tiny screw in a bag of its own along with a small panel to cover the screw hole. The cover may have to be glued on. I've left the screw off so I could take the bridge off during transformation, so I don't know how well the cover holds with friction.
  16. Luckily, the later versions of the SDF-1 are package with the bridge separate from the ship so you won't have to worry about those antenna.
  17. I have the toy and I've been really tempted to get the model, especially after seeing the results of the guys who detailed theirs. At least one of them did it to the toy, so he had to take it apart. It'd be much easier to use the model. But, I've still got a 1/350 Enterprise sitting in a closet that I was planning on building a few years ago with lighting that I never got around to. I have been wondering what the movie SDF-1 would look like in the TV series colors, including painting the ARMDs the colors of the Prometheus and Daedalus.
  18. Ended up getting the 17S and the Kakizaki VF-1A to go with my DYRL Max VF-1A.
  19. I read a review where someone said that basically the best reason to buy the unbuilt version is if you really enjoy building models and want to customize the heck out of it like a couple of the pinned threads here. But, the reviewer said, if you're buying it to just save money, then don't. The sale on the SDF-1 isnt any better than when I bought it a couple of months ago, and I'm sure it'll be on sale again, of it doesn't sell out.
  20. That's fantastic! Having the translations is truly priceless, and I definitely appreciate the work you put into it.
  21. I just got the VF-1 Space Wings one yesterday. I was supposed to get the VF-25 as well, but the place I ordered it from screwed up my order and sent the VF-19 instead. I had placed two orders with them, one with the VF-1 vol 2 and VF-25 through Amazon, and then another for VF-1 vol 1 and VF-19 through their regular website. I'm hoping they'll just be able to send the VF-25 in the second shipment. I really like the two that I've got so far, though. The images are really cool, and especially the VF-1 has some neat schematics of the cockpit. I just really wish that there was some way to translate the books into English. I'd love to see what they're saying, especially what looks like stories of some sort.
