The MW Automotive Thread Quattro SpecV

Maybe it's just me, but it seems the trend towards increasingly sharp, angular designs on automobiles makes for a lot more new models with front fascias that have, well, almost face-like features. And damned if that new Lambo ain't a smug lookin' ba*tard... ...then again, with 700 HP, I guess it's got every right to be. -

Looks pretty cool, but that's what I was thinking too. "Lamborghini Yoshiyuki Tomino edition" -

Some cardboard .50 cals--or better yet, some mini-rockets--on the fenders would really set it off right, so you's can go zipping down the autobahn going "pew, pew, pew." -

Meh, it's just not the same without the little silhouettes of the robots and janitor down at the bottom of the screen... -

In hindsight, I suppose this opens all kinds of realms of possibility for the re-coining of "blitzkrieg" for Germany's wermacht (do they still call it that?) -
BRUCE LEE -Greatest Martial Artist EVER

Hah! Chuck Norris would never enter such a contest, because he wouldn't want it to be so grossly unfair. Everyone knows: Chuck Norris has the ability to crack the time/space continuum with the force of the pressure wave from one of his punches. Chuck Norris would tear down the cage bars with one hand, then challenge the entire audience to a fight! -
BRUCE LEE -Greatest Martial Artist EVER
reddsun1 replied to Snail00's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Indeed. A lot of combat in the real world does in fact degrade into a lot of grappling, tussling, groping on the ground, etc. But I don't tend to look at martial arts (films) in the same light as that. Apples vs oranges. As a kid, I thought kung-fu movies were cool, sort of "man, what a cool way to beat somebody up." But I've come to appreciate martial arts--as practiced for film and TV--with much more emphasis on the arts part of it, much like ballet or other highly crafted performance. The highly practiced and refined artistry that goes into the choreography of it is what I can appreciate. But I also know that with the vast majority of that stuff, one cannot reasonably expect go out into the real world and try it on some tough in a bar--you'll wind up getting yer arse kicked, or worse. As for what I would personally choose to "follow," I got a copy of the USMC Close Combat Training Manual. Now, if only I could discipline myself to actually dedicate the necessary time to studying it... -

Ha! The irony is not lost on me here. It's pretty neat that that figure is very, very accurate--and that in itself flies right in the face of conventional toydom. You know how pretty much any superhero/action figure is typically over-sculpted, has a physique/features that are exaggerated to the point of being almost mis-shapen? i.e. they're so ripped, no human could realistically achieve that kind of physical prowess. So how cool is it that Bruce Lee was SO bada$$ that you could make an insanely ripped, over-sculpted toy of him, and it looks JUST like him? -

I like the design as well; but do they need to be so oversized? I'd think 18" is sufficient to fill out the wheelwells and allow for plenty of options in the way of performance rubber, yet not clash with the body lines. I just hate the DUmB look that's all the rage now... -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_NYWyVHcl0&feature=related GM would almost certainly never let the Walkinshaw R8 see US shores, lest it upstage their halo car, the 'Vette. The car that was so good, not even Pontiac could completely fu*k it up. The Aussies certainly kept the hottest versions to themselves. Top Gear Australia proves that big a$$ ghetto bling dubs (was it "poof doofs" that he called them?) will not only show you've got sh*t poor taste, they'll also make your car SLOWER. (the perf differential between the Clubsport and Super-Clubbie is pretty underwhelming, though) -

Not too keen on the scalloped(?) section in the lower door, but otherwise: very sexy. I like. Methinks that rear deck will likely need to be addressed though, or there may be rear aero lift issues, like those with the early Audi TT's? And tone down those wheels a bit, eh? -

That was pretty dog-gone good. Indeed. While I may like to "time trial" myself through some of my favorite sections of twisty back roads, I'd never consider trying to post triple-digit speeds on public roads. That's nothing short of irresponsible and plain f'ing stupid. When I finally get my car to the level of power I want it at, I've every intention of wringing it out at track-day events--where that sort of thing belongs... -

Hear Hear! Well said. But with safety regs, crumple zones, sound deadening, etc. that's become an integral part of modern car design, is a 3600lb sedan or 2800lb coupe even possible any more? or is that now relegated to the good-old-days, relics of a time before stringent governmental safety standards? I'd have expected the weights for each of those classes to be 500-750+ lbs heavier on average? -
Black Cat = CRAP Big Windup = CRAP Ghost Slayers Ayashi = CRAP Heroic Age = CRAP Nana = CRAP MACROSS is all you need.... (I am SO out of touch with the current state of anime...)

Indeed. I think stationwagons can be cool (depending on your taste). But I wouldn't presume to call them "sporty" by any stretch of the imagination--at least in the handling/performance department; you just have to recognize some inherent limitations of the platform, compared to more conventionally designed sedans/coupes/sports cars (at least with older cars). But yeah, given the right look, I'd rock a 'wagon. -

Could this be the beginning of the "ascendency" of Hyundai in the American marketplace, much like that of Toyota, Nissan et. al. in the 70's-80's? They're definitely looking to change their brand image, take it more upscale. Also: prepare for the emergence of the "sport wagon" (or attempt at it). Automakers will likely be looking to shift away from SUVs towards vehicles they can pitch as "having a smaller carbon footprint" or some other enviro-mumbo-jumbo, so I'm guessing they're going to try to make station wagons "cool" again or something. Hey, that Ascari--er, McLaren looks like a real screamer... -
I feel the 1/60 v2 is the best looking toy of the VF-1 all-around, to date. It just looks the most "right" so far. If only it were as simple as up-sizing the design to create larger scaled versions... This may belong in another thread, but I have a question/request: anybody got pics of their 1/48 Yammies next to other warbirds/jets of the same scale for comparison? I know the VF-1 would be roughly the same size as an AV-8B Harrier or F-16 Falcon (kinda in-between), but just for some visual reference, perhaps?

No sir, I don't like it. Maybe it's just me, but those character lines (is that what they're called?) on either side of the grill give the front end an even more exaggerated visage of a grinning face, like cheeks or something. Reminds me of that green-goblin face on the front of the killer KW in Maximum Overdrive.
