Oh wait a minute, I stand corrected. I completely forgot: they've already been-there done-that by way of "reality TV" format, there was that awful show with Bill Goldberg on the SPEED channel. Bullrun--more like bullsh*t. Gimme the remote. **click**
-
They're liable to try to get Burt to be in them. Probably get his Mack on, make his appearance as an old-skool gangsta in a souped up Bentley or Lincoln or something. Or--God forbid--get a part written in so's he can show up in a "Bandit edition" Year One Firebird. **shudder** Not sure just what route they'd take though [hah! no pun intended] with such a film(s). Probably try to go for slapstick/comedy, to distance themselves from we-take-ourselves-way-too-seriously material like the "Furious" series. As I understand it, the modern Cannonball runs are nothing like the original coast-to-coast races, in spirit or in practice. More like press-junkets nowadays, for a bunch of rich tw*ts/movie-stars/pro-athletes to perpetuate the hard-partying-glamour-life image.

Hehe, cool. Now that movie's quite a time-capsule, isn't it? Wow, so many from that ensemble cast are gone now. Ah, the 80's--when the Countach pretty much ruled the roost, as fantasy cars go; their posters adorning the bedroom walls of countless teenage boys... Ah, memories. The Mustang that David Carradine drove at the end of Cannonball was pretty much what gave me a chubby for fastback 'Stangs as a kid. I still like the race up the LA river from Gumball, with the Cobra and the Ferrari Daytona. In hindsight, that movie was from back before everybody started kit-bashing Cobras, making it much more likely that it was a genuine street ver (428ci) that was used. So many of those cars were likely considered "throwaways" back then; no telling where most of them ended up after all their mule work in front of the cameras... ed: HAH! mark my words! remember--I said it first! Get ready, cause a reboot of the Cannonball [themed] movies is bound to be coming.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Opens August 5.

Hmm, interesting. Longer muscle fibers, eh? This is what I should like medical science to crack the secret to. That, and syhthesizing or producing [preferably stimulating natural production] of this ACTN3....I should want to "stretch" my muscle fibers--so that I can rip the faces from my adversaries! --Crush your enemies [faces], see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women! **mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha hah!!** -

"...not the fastest...not the strongest..." I've heard before that apes are something on the order of 6-7 times stronger than humans. I've often wondered what the reason for this would be? Is it that they have more muscle fibers in a given group [bicep, tricep, etc.]? Are their muscle tissues "more dense" or something? Just how is it that they possess so much more physical strength? One need only remember Connecticut woman Carla Nash, who had her face literally torn apart by a chimp, to realize such estimates of strength are certainly not far off the mark. ed: to the esteemed Mr. Serkis - you sir, are NO Roddy McDowall... "Where there is fire, there is smoke. And in that smoke, from this day forward, my people will crouch, and conspire, and plot, and plan for the inevitable day of Man's downfall. The day when he finally and self-destructively turns his weapons against his own kind. The day of the writing in the sky, when your cities lie buried under radioactive rubble! When the sea is a dead sea, and the land is a wasteland out of which I will lead my people from their captivity! And we will build our own cities, in which there will be no place for humans except to serve our ends! And we shall found our own armies, our own religion, our own dynasty! And that day is upon you NOW!" -

The trailer that gets me is the one that calls Ceaser "Hero." To WHO? Ha! Hollywood and its bass-ackwards heart on their sleeve sentimentalities... What, so we're supposed to be impressed with 90 minutes of some CGI ape mean-muggin? making angy faces? **oooooooohhh** My ass... It's a damn good thing I'm not a film critic: "You want to know what I think? You really want to know what I think of this film?!" **stands, craps in hand, throws it at movie screen** "ooh! ah! oo oo aah ah! graaahhhh!" -
what about the killer whale from Orca (1977)? He/it systematically and maliciously kills off all the protagonists' crew and friends--oh wait, he just maims Bo Derek--before finally killing off his nemesis, captain Nolan (Richard Harris). There is very strong evidence that not only can killer whales form cooperative strategies and work as a "team" to catch prey, but they can also display somewhat sadistic tendencies, toying with a victim before killing/feeding. So maybe a whale on a revenge kick isn't all that fanciful, eh? Rather frightening, when one thinks about it, at just how smart and calculating one of those buggers might be.... ed: on second thought, don't think seeking to avenge the murder of his family really qualifies him/it as a "bad guy." **eeek! eeeek! (you bastard! you killed my wife! you killed my baby!)**

Hear hear! I'm willing to concede that we'll have to settle for CG for movies about this particular period of history though, as most of these planes just don't exist any more. I just wish they wouldn't cram everything together, as though all the action takes place in an airspace shaped like an imaginary cube, conveniently shaped to fit a 1.73:1 widescreen...

Impressive numbers, to be sure. But what an ugly little bas**ard. Reminiscent of an 80's era GTP car, like a Tiga or a Spice. I see it's tube frame instead of aluminum monocoque though--so it may actually be a bit safer...

Ah yes--aviation and WWII buffs will almost certainly want to tear Lucasfilms a new one, if they don't make sure they dot their i's and cross their t's so to speak. Considering that there's just so much information on this period of history--and how readily available it is--for things like unit markings, plane types used during certain years, etc... ed: see, I found this in about 20 secs: "The Tuskegee Airmen initially were equipped with Curtiss P-40s, briefly with Bell P-39 Airacobras (March 1944), later with Republic P-47 Thunderbolts (June–July 1944), and finally with the aircraft with which they became most commonly identified, the North American P-51 Mustang (July 1944)." an' it's on wikipedia, so it must be true, duh huh!

I must admit, I'm a bit intruiged by this one. "James Bond and Indiana Jones strap on their 6-shooters, and kick some alien a$$!" I remember seeing a Muse video for Knights of Cydonia, and it had a whole silly-scifi vibe going to it, with kung-fu fighting cowboys packing laser pistols. I remember thinking: "I'm surprised Hollywood doesn't try to violate the western genre with something like this; that would actually be pretty cool and different." Lo and behold, a few years later, The Warrior's Way slashes its way into theaters ["Ninjas. Damn!"], and now this. Who'd a thunk it?
-
Hear hear! Another wellspring of good stories, those guys truly beat some long odds. Plus I love the early model P-40's. ed: God Bless the Tuskeegee Airmen! Truly they were good Shepherds of the sky, and heroes to me...

I thought the HBO movie was very good--just hampered by budget limitations. I hate seeing the "Inspired by true events" tagline for a movie like this. Just makes me think: GODDA**IT, JUST TELL THE TRUE GODDA*N EVENTS! I fall back on the old cliche "truth is stranger than fiction." The stories of these men--and so many others--are compelling, daring, suspensful enough that they're entertaining on their own merits. They shouldn't need physics-defying embellishment and bullshi**ery, just to hold the attention spans of open-mouth-breathing-fu*kwits, who lose focus when everything doesn't look like it's off a f'ing videogame console.

You, suh, have oh-fended mah sensuhbilities! *removes glove* [sMACK!] Ah challenge you to uh duel! 10 paces, at dawn! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5Fg8YskGGE ed: but yeah. I've pretty much lost interest in this show. Pull the plug, this one's dead and needs burying. [pun intended]

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
reddsun1 replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ah ha ha ha ha ha! Brilliant! -
Okay, even if I'd be willing to suspend disbelief for a bit on this premise, I still only got as far as "Another world...another you" before I got to thinking: okay, this could get downright juvenile, pretty quick. There'd probably be a bit of a race to develop inexpensive and maybe even portable technologies to allow people to locate--probably even see, like google earth or something--themselves on the alternate Earth. You know that'd lead to a bunch of angst ridden [or just plain hooning] folks waiting until the most likely time that their other self would be finding them through some high powered super-high-res live feed telescoping system--just so they can flip themselves the bird, or flash themselves, pun intended [hah! how about 'another moon' for ya, buddy?].

FURIOUS OVER NEW CONAN (Conan the Barbarian remake)
reddsun1 replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
LOL, you paint a pretty picture. Meh, I'd rather watch this instead of that new Conan bozo... http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/81563948/ -
That was hilarious! Thank you! Funny thing is: the original sounds ever-so-slightly different from the re-dubs that have been subsequently used over the years[only just a little]. Go figure. ed: I wonder how they'll handle Smaug. My only reference has always been the '77 cartoon. I always liked Richard Boone's gravelly, booming performance as the dragon; lent him that much more imposing presence.

FURIOUS OVER NEW CONAN (Conan the Barbarian remake)
reddsun1 replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hey, what you got against Halle? Okay, sure--it was a piss poor casting choice. Alright, given--she seems to have some serious man/relationship issues. But Got Dayum, she is one beautiful woman. Positively MILF-tastic... Meh, all this pre-movie hype serves to do is make me wanna go out and rent Beastmaster, and bask in its superiority to this big-budget garbage. LOL, now that would make a funny a$$ .gif: Marc Singer and Arnie, bitch-slapping this new barbarian-wannabe with some fur pelts -
Hell, I could do that--I got crappy jokes out the wazoo. I really am in the wrong line of work... *sigh*

Nope. Haven't actively tried to find or follow it. Seems to be the same format as their sports-talk show, only applied to "automotive" subjects? I'm guessing this is the SPEED network's answer to "Top Gear" since TG: America is presumably circling the bowl [if the flush isn't already complete]? ed: exactly what DOES Adam Carolla DO, anyway? I remember hearing a bit of that radio show with Dr. Drew when he was on it, and he quipped to one of the callers: "I probably spend more on hookers than you make in a year."

Restomods rule. *Beavis & Butthead voices* -- Cool. -- uhn-hunh unn-hunh. Cool! LOL, there should be a warning sticker on the door sills though: *Achtung!* This car has borderline malevolent handling tendancies that, due to potential for previously unheard of increases in power output, will have been increased exponentially and it will try to kill you, given the slightest lapse in attention and respect.

Well, fine . If you're going to play semantics, then. *confused look* --What? --'What' ain't no country I ever heard of! They speak English in 'What'? --What? --English, motherfu**er! Do you speak it? --Yeah. --So you understand the words I'm saying to you! --Yeah. --Well, what I'm saying is that there are known knowns and that there are known unknowns. But there are also unknown unknowns; things we don't know that we don't know. --What? --Say what again! Say what again! I dare you! I double dare you, motherfu**er! Say what one more time!

Large-script decals & emblems don't tend to age well [aesthetically] on cars, even "tribute" liveries. 10, 15 years down the road, folks tend to look at that sort of thing and go "that's so last-decade." The yellow striping and even the spoiler number work pretty well; and that's a marvelous shade of blue. What's the term for that almost reflective sheen to the finish?

Yes; nothing like uncontrolled capitalism to maximize profits off of a show/movie that purports to teach kids about the ills of uncontrolled capitalism... "...New! At [insert fast-food chain here]! Captain Planet collectible figures! Available with any kids' meal, for a limited time only!" You KNOW it'd happen, should this wretch-fest of a film idea ever see the light of day...
