Yup; at the end of the day, that's pretty much the primary consideration for any potential addition to the Macross franchise at this point: how many toys/models/lunchboxes/pachinko games/etc is this gonna sell?
-
Just think of it, it could finally provide a means to see--and more importantly, produce/market merchandise for--mechs like: Gnerls; Glaug Power Ups; re-issue the Queadluuns, etc, etc. With, of course, weathered variants to follow, appropriately marked-up...

hey, after all it did work for Bandai/Sunrise. 08th MS Team, 0080: War in the Pocket and 0083: Stardust Memory (although I have never liked Anavel Gato's character) come to mind. Those were pretty good--told side stories set apart from the main series, and managed to not suck... ed: although I know I must concede that those all managed to expand the ever-important toy and model lines for Bandai; which wouldn't be the case for Macross here. I know that would be the biggest hurdle, making it such a hard sell. then again, Yamato certainly doesn't seem to mind producing variants of the v2 1/60s as it is. Mebbe that would finally help justify expanding to include enemy mechs?

Yeah, why not? How about a side story about a pilot/squad that helps deal with Zjentohlauedy and para-military uprisings on Earth and near-orbit during reconstruction after Space War I; they must battle hardship, loss, and try to find hope & love in a seemingly desolate world, all the while forging themselves into an elite fighting squad using the (now) classically familiar Macross mechs that we all know and love... Oh, one standout could be like, a custom Tomahawk Destroid (materials/parts scarcety will call for ingenuity, after all) that's been built-up for close combat, with VF styled arms & manipulator hands, and an over-the-shoulder beam cannon. It could allow a chance for cel-shading/animating VFs in action much more realistically (edited kinda like "combat footage," similar to the style used for the new BSG series mebbe?) in different tactical roles: Apache-esque GERWALK armor hunts; gound strikes in support of the Destroid ground pounders; furious space/aerial combat maneuvers against Gnerl Figther Pods and Anti UN fighters; and of course hand to hand against the Regults, Queadluuns, Nousjadeuls... And of course, this could mean canonizing new custom VF-1 squadron color schemes... (I was gonna say one idea could be a real hot-ship for the hero of the series, a custom/upgraded VF that could serve as inspiration for the VF-1X; but those don't come along until 2025 or so, according to timelines I've seen online)

Indeed, almost. Well, the Harrier is roughly the same size as a VF... ed: I dunno--the VF looks bigger than that proportionately, to me

Leave the "remakes" alone, I say. It didn't work for me for Hokuto no Ken, don't think it's necessary for Macross, either. I think it'd be cool to see alternate stories told within the same timespan of the early Macross era, i.e. other character stories during/immediately after Space War I. That way, it'd be conceivable for cameos from favorite Macross characters, without too much chance of conflicting or changing continuity of the original series... CG mecha and traditionally hand animated characters just doesn't seem to work well together, unless you use cel shading(?) for the CG.

Oh, you dumb, LUCKY sumbi*ch...

Ah, yes. How many countless similar--and worse--scenarios have begun in such a fashion? *Hey y'all, watch this!* Is it just me, or were those wingtips really flexing?

The Ford/Mazda connection is still pretty obvious. I love the aggressive front end treatment of the upcoming Fusion--it looks out of place on a mid-size family mover, in fact. But aside from the front end, hood and tail lights, pretty much everywhere else--overall proportions, shapes, panel line angles/placement--the '13 Fusion is well nigh indistinguishable from the current Mazda 6--which is due for an update!

Yup, I've seen that one before; and it doesn't look, well, very Mospeada-ish. Which got me on to my little tangent with early 80's era bike designs. Just find it hard to believe that no one had ever tried anything prior to your aforereferenced bike.

hmm...then again, the frame on the early 80's Honda NS500 seems a little better suited, i.e. the exhaust routing; might be easier for someone to fashion custom exhaust pipes that exit through the sides of a "Mospeada" fiberglass shell? What? You mean NO ONE in 30 years has ever thought of or tried something like this? MOSPEADA is the coolest f'ing motorcycle evah. And I'm not even into 2-wheels...

It's possible to get Chrysler rallye wheels in plus sizes now. Should be able to get 'em in 17's to take advantage of modern radial sizes, and still keep that classic Mopar look...

Wow. There's no talking your way out of something like this one.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfFnNfszY9M

I'm not much of a big block fan--prefer the concept of better balance/handling achievable with small block power. But h3ll, I like this car... specs from the mag article: Engine: No portly Hemi here. Kibler's Performance built the 500ci Mopar wedge motor. Scat crank and rods and JE pistons cut down on mass. It's topped with Mopar Performance Stage 6 aluminum heads and force-fed with a D1-SC ProCharger centrifugal blower setup with custom brackets by The Supercharger Store. Schumacher Creative Services built the headers which dump into dual 3-inch Flowmaster exhaust. EFI is by FAST.Performance: 750 hp (est.)Transmission: Eric plans to road race his Road Runner, so a Passon Performance-prepped A833 four-speed stick and a Centerforce clutch does the shifting.Rearend: The Chrysler 831/44-inch rearend encases a lightweight Mopar Performance aluminum carrier with Dutchman axles and gears from Randy's Ring & Pinion.

Let the "...lock S-foils in attack position" quotes commence ad-nauseum!

eh? But didn't Top Gear UK already do an ep with the same challenge? (only with an Apache, IIRC) ...and they managed to bugger a Cobra gunship while filming--presumably--a similar episode for Top Gear Korea...

this bloke got himself grounded for his trouble, according to the news blurb... http://gizmodo.com/5...-ground-updated but ferchrissakes--couldn't he come up with something better than "it was just for fun" when asked to explain himself? Jesus, buddy; you were asking for it. He could have at least fudged it a little: "...we wanted to demonstrate a *ahem* planned precision maneuver, as required for the Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System method..."

I've always wondered just what bike was the likely inspiration for the MOSPEADA. Maybe the early 80's Suzuki RG500 fits the bill the best? ...the handlebar placement seems (nearly) right, the size and proportions as well. I imagine bikes of this vintage must be well nigh impossible to find nowadays. But some creative use of bodywork and a front fairing (on the forks) with covers for the handlebars would produce a near spot-on MOSPEADA replica, I'd wager...

mmm, okay? but why the f**k does "alternate C3PO" look like he's got boobs?! Okay, I'll meet you halfway; I'd be willing to suspend disbelief, maybe buy into the proposition of a race of Atlantean giant-warrior-slaves, hence a justification for steampunk Destroids--maybe even Valkyries... but the design and execution of a re-conceptualized Macross ship would be tough indeed. Would it have pre-dreadnought styled battleships for arms?

So, was anybody else visualizing VF's in place of those Hornets in that vid? eh? eh? Seriously--there are like, so many shots in the first couple mins of that video that are nearly identical to ones from the various Mac series that it's not even funny...
