Unless I hit the lotto, gonna have to do as much as I can meself. Lucky for me: none of the welding required will be where it will be seen.

From better days. She's pretty well torn down now, waiting for strip down to bare metal. Rust's not nearly as bad as it could've been, for these birds. Just in some really awkward places for someone with practically no welding experience like myself. Driver's side sill panel may have to be replaced; few small places in the toe boards; in the corners of the firewall, and front cowl. Thankfully pretty small, but still a little daunting. She sits. And waits, patiently.

Anybody remember this one? Memories. Damn, I'm gettin' old! RRRRAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH! Crank it up! Throw some sh*t!

Damn, can't believe I forgot this one. FU@#ING. CLASSIC. That cartoon network crap: Superjail is such a ripoff of this style:

Like. A. BOSS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PIzVVBhcvw It's only funny because nobody got hurt. But this could have been a grade-A FUBAR.

Hmm, that's food for thought. I suppose the problem for me--if I end up getting new front seats--would be finding a local uphostery shop that will be able to do custom contrasting piping to match the interior, without costing an arm and a leg.
-
I suppose that was considered respectable back around '84 - '85. The top end "sporty" cars were making in the neighborhood of 150 - 180 HP or so. I don't think the still emissions-neutered V8 powered cars of the day had even broken back through the 200 HP threshhold by then?
-
Those were rated at 105 HP. I'd heard of owners getting as much as 300 HP out of the 22RE, with turbocharging. I used to chuckle at the tachometer---must have been an inside joke at Toyota or something. That damned motor was all done by the time it hit 4000 rpm. some tech notes on that family of engines here: http://www.toysport...._tech_notes.htm ed: I never really liked the pop up headlights on the RA-65's though. Thought it spoiled the look, aerodynamically. One mod I would have liked to do--if I'd kept the car--would have been to replace the black headlight covers with smoke/clear ones [like on the side markers], and put fixed headlights behind them; kinda like they did with 1st and 2nd gen racing corvettes...

Had thought about getting some for the 'Roo. The stitching pattern and seat design does make them blend with the interior very well. I saw some at a local car show in a '69 Camaro and they looked right at home in that car as well.
-
To myk: I'd overlooked earlier--but are those Procar seats you've got in your Charger? How do you like those? Are they pretty comfortable?

re: those who wish/aspire/dream to pursue a career as a professional race car driver "The question that I hear most is, "I don't have the money to buy and run a car, but I know that I have the talent and the determination to succeed - how do I get started?" You get started, my friend, any way that you can. It is highly unlikely that you are going to earn enough money to finance your racing while you are young enough to still have a career in racing. This leaves convincing someone to provide either a ride or a car and the money to run it, selling the family whatever, robbing a bank or renting your sister/girlfriend/wife by the hour, day, week or month. Again, if you are not comfortable with this concept, reconsider your career options." --Carroll Smith, Drive to Win

I concur. They just looked fast sitting still [hehe, that's about the only way they managed it]. But lightweight, very tossable. Great brakes too, very confidence-inspiring; if anything it could be considered over-braked, for lack of a better description [for the amt of HP it had]. Miss the hell out of it. Learned to heel and toe in that car.

An early Celica might be a good choice, if you can find one? I've read that short track guys like the 22R and RE motors for their torquey characteristics. Hehe, they sure as heck ain't high revvers. And horsepower don't come cheap with those motors. I regret selling my '84 GT-S to this day. Looked just like this one. Slow, underpowered as hell--but man, was it fun tossing 'er through the corners, hitting the apexes...

Suggested reading: The Racing Driver, by Denis Jenkinson ISBN Part # 9780837602011 - outstanding book, still relevant in many ways The Technique of Motor Racing, by Piero Tarufi - written from an engineer's viewpoint, a bit heavy on the formulaeic approach, but still relevant Drive To Win, by Carroll Smith - read it. then read it again. All of them are worth reading twice--Carroll Smith's even more. I've also wanted to get my hands on The Unfair Advantage by Mark Donohue, but I believe that one's been out of print for some time?

One of these might be an answer. Hell, I'm considering going this route myself. http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/ http://www.chumpcar.com/ Emphasis is on satisfying the urge, without having to sell your soul [well, that depends on your perspective ;-P]. Maybe one of these sanctioning bodies will have events near where you are? 'kay everybody, get ready to point and laugh... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDucwMrIy_Q talent be damned! I gots me sh*tloads o' money!

Those are some good lookin' old skool rides. People cannot understand how you can spend money on motor racing, but I'll tell ya what--it's just like standing under a cold shower and ripping up $50 bills. I think you have to be a spendthrift with a sense of humor to be out there. --Jim Keogh, Bathurst 1979

South Korean? I thought it was supposed to be "Canada's first supercar"? LOL, that does look like cannon fodder colors. So is HG going to try to sue them too? Issue a cease-and-desist? ed: bears a strong resemblance to the GT-40 Mk IV

Could be the most original movie with a robot

I'm guessing the resemblance to Honda's Asimo is no coincidence; a shot across their bow, as it were, aimed at all its implied benevolence of design and intent. -
Ha ha!

Hah! Young Clint Eastwood hell--should have let Clint himself do this one! LOL, could've had him leave his turn signal on the whole time...

Hehe, cool. Up yours, Bayformers...

I must agree. And why the FU*K have the Zentraedi got elfin ears?!? I for one hate the way so many of the modern renditions of the VF-1 have got to go mucking with the proportions of the original Valkyrie design.
