Grew up on Star Blazers, Mazinger, and Force Five. Briefly saw some Macross stuff at Mr. Big's Toyland (MA) when grabbing some Shogun Warriors. When RT aired, it was a shock and awe attack. Amazing mecha and long connected episodes like what I wanted since Star Blazers. After years of watching beat-up VHS tapes of recorded episodes....Macross Plus arrives and it's all re-kindled again. Somewhere in between, "Gundam" was mentioned with something about "super-size robots"........ Late '90s and Gundam items turn up on eBay when I'm looking for Dougram stuff...oooh. And thus it began. Hunting down subbed VHS tapes of series and getting hooked on the mecha combat and the "saga" stories. DVDs come to fruition and I'm introduced to bad subs on HK boots, but so what, I want to see everything Gundam........regardless of repetitive story plots or similar mobile suits....I mean this stuff is cool! Guess it comes down to the basics -- what you like.....some can only watch one series - others have to see all. Same with Macross, some can only watch SDF-Macross or DYRL while others need to see everything related (even the infamous RT because that's what started "the itch"). But I digress............ As far as popularity here in the States or I guess the Boston area.....I personally believe that only a small amount of persons were familiar with Gundam until the lovely butchery of Wing on Cartoon Network......then the explosion hit.....and the rest is history...... If Macross had a TV revival as well as an insane amount of follow-on or side stories, I think we'd see a 50-foot tall VF-1S on the left and a 50-foot tall RX-78 on the right of a mega Gundam/Macross store in Japan. And BTW to whoever mentioned this above....I agree.....08th MS Team's take on ground combat (my fave ) and 0080's different p.o.v. is what sets them apart.

Leiji Matsumoto's latest. Dai Yamato/Great Yamato.

Thankd for those great links Chuey. I also agree that it is good to see Yamato stuff. This "newer" version of the Great Yamato looks like a quickly thrown-together that now looks too out-of-place for my tastes. I mean, what the heck could be the purpose of the disk...fancy passenger suites for high-brow V.I.P.-types. IMHO, if they stuck with the "older" version of the Great Yamato, there would be much rejoicing. http://www.shipschematics.net/yamato/image...greatyamato.jpg Oh, and a quick Amen on losing all of those pesky lights!! -
Here's Gunota's summary/translation: The Impulse appears to have Victory Gundam tendencies.....hmmmm

Good pick-up as Gunota updated their page with the following:"Each "Version Katoki" figure features a few movable joints." -
Guess what....another NEW Gundam figure line
GRAND CANNON replied to GRAND CANNON's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Actually, it's incorrect to say that there have been no Victory toys since the MSiP line. Last year (2003) Banpresto released a very well designed, high quality, ABS and die-cast metal, perfect transformation Victory Gundam and Victory Hexa Gundam toy. Graham OOOH, too true, too true, forgot about those. Thanks, Graham. See....if I had them for myself, I wouldn't have forgotten. -

Guess what....another NEW Gundam figure line
GRAND CANNON posted a topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh my....another line of figures?!?! MSiA, AMSiA, HCMPro, now these.... I'm glad that Victory get "props" for the first time since the MS in Pocket line and at 1/144, they will be the exact same scale. Gives wonder if they are the same type of figure, but with greater sturdiness :-" ... Anyone who can read the description on the linked page, please let us know if any details are given. The 1/144 scale would also make some of them "larger" than most of the MSiA suits as they are in the realm of 1/170ish. I say "some" due to the different suit sizes as seen between 0079 suits (larger) compared to Victory's 0123 suits (smaller). Very interesting nonetheless..... -
The GPB seems to fit on my VF-1D just fine. I do have to add that it looks pretty damn sweet too. Even though the heatshield doesn't fit correctly, the chest armor is still held on well enough for display purposes. The Elint and ostrich are a little different though. On those valks the nose cone is bulkier. There for, the nose armor will not fit unless being permanetly attached. But, I'd have to agree with what was said earlier, Those valk would be pretty fugly with the GPB armor. Nice!

Wow....sounds good to me. I've only seen snippets of the LoGH series and would like to get my hands on the series, but nonetheless.....sounds like a great collaboration. Oh .... and hopefully non-CG.....

Leiji Matsumoto's latest. Dai Yamato/Great Yamato.
GRAND CANNON replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I agree. As someone who grew up with this is the late 70's, I'm torn about this new incarnation of the Yamato. I think they've added too much, as seen with the disk and wings. Won't stop me from finding out how to see this series, but just doesn't seem right. Guess you could bring up Syd Mead's Yamato from Yamato 2520, but that was supposed to be very different. Found a pic of a GREAT YAMATO soudtrack that had a low-mod version of the Yamato....would've preferred this: More possibly yucky(?) Great Yamato: dunno....... Yamato 2520(for what it's worth): -

What current pics? The picture with the Freedom Gundam on the MG Strike stand isn't the MG kit. It's a 1/100 HG and MG Strike kitbash. I dislike the MG Strike stand, since it's huge and clunky and ugly. The MG Freedom stand looks much more attractive, and I think it'll be more effective. The 1/100 HG Astray doesn't come with a stand, and I don't think any version of it will. We've yet to see if there will be a MG Astray, and whether or not it will come with a stand, but if these two MG SEED kits are any indication, I think it will. I was refrring to the pics in Anubis' post as well as the pics that were linked here: http://jhobby.net/product_info.php?products_id=1203 They've described/labelled all as the MG, first I've heard of a kitbash. Nonetheless, I would also prefer that "star-shaped" stand rather than the "launch-stand". -

All photos are pointing that a stand will be included. Whereas the proto-sculpt had a small stand, these current pics look like the launch stand included with the Strike will be part of this kit, too. ( All MGs should have a stand included. ) -

Likewise. All of this talk made me dig up my "chess deck." Got the idea from a Duelist mag years ago. You pick 2 colors and it had a bunch of requirements for each "piece" (although I do not remember exactly what they were). See if you remember these cards...... set-up is as follows ( as if looking down onto a chessboard): pawn - rook pawn - knight pawn - bishop pawn - queen pawn - king pawn - bishop pawn - knight pawn - rook ------------------- Sabretooth Tiger - Wall of Stone Sabretooth Tiger - Roc of Kher Ridges Sabretooth Tiger - Eron the Relentless Sabretooth Tiger - Sivan Dragon Drudge Skeletons - Baron Sengir Drudge Skeletons - Sengir Vampire Drudge Skeletons - Fallen Angel Drudge Skeletons - Wall of Bone Queen's Artifact - Jester's Cap King's Assistant - Royal Assassin ------------------- 2/1 First Strike - 0/8 2/1 First Strike - 3/3 Flying 2/1 First Strike - 5/2 Regen...Can attack when summoned 2/1 First Strike - 5/5 Flying...pumper 1/1 Regen - 5/5 Flying...regen vamp...counters 1/1 Regen - 4/4 Flying...counters 1/1 Regen - 3/3 Flying...pumper 1/1 Regen - 1/4 Regen Limited to so many cards in the deck.......Was cool to play with......Creature battles were the way to go!! Direct-Damage/Scorch decks were brutal........uh-oh......getting the itch.....

May get them just for those beautiful cases!! Are they that much clearer than the US release? Don't have any issue with mine... (then again, that's all I have seen ) -

GRAND CANNON replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Figured it would be used for nosecone caps, remove-before-flight tags, chocks, and stuff, but wanted to ask. Can't describe how jealous I am. Been a while since an airshow. Good one coming up at Westover here in MA, but my son's due days after. Closest I've been to anything has been my best friend's Blackhawk out of Cape Cod.......not complaining, but "she ain't no fixed-wing". Hopefully I can appease my military equipment appetite with some USN port visits during this weekend's Boston Harborfest.
