Second season of GitS: Stand Alone Complex!
Seven replied to wakobi's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't agree with you there. There is a TV episode that the movie expanded on and basically rehashed and it was just as peculiar. You are also forgetting about the tv episodes where all the main characters went to a haunted house on the beach and ended up dying one by one in pretty grotesque manners or where Ataru's mom had a weird introspective adventure where she went crazy. When Oshii directs, you never know where he's going to take the characters. As for why Patlabor II was so different from the first movie was that this time, the rest of Headgear decided to allow Oshii more creative control, whereas in the first, it was a collaborative team effort. -

I blame our generation for the new breed of XTREME film producers, directors, film executives, and writers. -

Am I the only one who didn't like POA? I loved the first two movies, but maybe that's because after having watched the Star Wars prelude trilogy, the Matrix trilogy, and the LOTR trilogy in the last 5 years, I just enjoyed something more lighter that had a child-like sense of humor. It was a good switch for me. I didn't like POA because it was exactly the opposite of the other two being darker, and I just could not bring myself to like Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. -
You guys convinced me to go shopping on Amazon for it. I just ordered all 3 volumes, so I can't wait until it arrives to I can start reading.

Man, the wrestling world just took a big hit with the loss of Eddie Guerrero. We all lose with this one. There was no better example of brilliance than when you saw him and Chris Benoit go at it in the ring.

I really wished I picked up a copy of the manga back when I first read it. The hard SF approach was great and it actually tackled time dilation, alien environments, and other great concepts that regular SF just glazes over or lazily invent solutions for. Anyone know where I can find the manga TPBs? Also, didn't the story span like thousands of years as man reached out into deep space? I never got to read past the first few issues, can someone enlighten me on what goes on in the story (although I have heard that it is really an anthology of stories)?

I saw the guy at E3 back around 2000, and he's definitely not under 5 foot. He's more like 5 foot 6. Who gives a crap if he's short. The guy gets paid bank to read lines in front of a camera in exotic places like New Zealand. He's laughing all the way to the bank while he travels the world reading scripts when he feels like it.

The Official Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread
Seven replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'm eagerly awaiting when someone will fansub episode 4. I want to understand what the hell was going on in all that chaos. I have to admit that I did not like Nono's form later in that episode. Felt a little too Mighty Morphin for my tastes. Everything else was frickin awesome. -

It makes sense given that she did a Inazuma kick in the vacuum of space in episode 1. -
Waaait a minute. I thought all this talk about a movie for Metal Gear was hypothetical. I've never heard of a project under way. Even if there was an announcement, usually its just some producer thinks it would be a good prospect, then we don't hear anything else for years if ever.
-
If they start bitching about Macross Plus, just take it out and throw in a dvd of Urotsukidoji. I'm sure they'll like that.
-
Michael Biehn would make a great Solid Snake if they were ever to make a movie.

Personally the best part for me was when the rabbit became a speed bump. Or was it the girl. I can't remember.

What, you want a 10-hour long movie with a bunch of talking heads and completely unecessary exposition? 336862[/snapback] Wow, did you actually think DOOM was going to be totally from FPS POV the entire movie too with all dialog being mostly grunts, screaming, and sound effects? It's not like Hideo Kojima would end up being the director anyways.

The Smurfs are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.

Yeah, this season of Ultimate Fighter is definitely horrible to watch. The first season wasn't that great to watch either until near the end, with the meaningless boring challenges always out in the same abandoned lot out next to the Las Vegas strip. Koschek "The Blanket" was enough for me to tune off. At least the match between Griffin and Bonnar turned into a Rocky style slugfest with both of them leading with their chins. I'll watch UFC every now and then but I'm definitely a devoted Pride fan.

No, you're not the only one who thought Lacus made no sense whatsoever. Even in Seed when she was talking Athrun down from shooting her, her speech made no sense in my mind. Every single damn time they give her some moment of wisdom, she usually just says the same ol thing - "Follow your heart. Do what you want to do." If I listened to that, I would have been, "Gee thanks for the useless advice. How is that supposed to get us to overcome the enemy's superior firepower and resources?!" Kira is just as inane too whenever he tries to communicate exactly WHY it is wrong to fight. Athrun - "Kira! Why is it wrong to fight?" Kira - "...because..." Athrun - "But WHY?! We are being attacked! Our colonies are being destroyed!!" Kira - "Hmmm... good question. Let me ask Lacus."

The difference in animation didn't bother me that much. Yes, I would have preferred if they just reanimated the whole thing, but they didn't, so I can't complain since anything Zeta after 20 years is great to have. Going into a compilation movie, you know that things are going to get cut, so I don't know why people always act surprised or disappointed. It is funny though when you have such stunning new animation with 80s era anime music.

So I just watched the raw of Heirs to the Stars and man, the new animation is just incredibly awesome!!! It got me thinking how much better Char's Counterattack would be if they did the same thing to it. If they saw fit to reanimate all of the UC Gundams with this animation team, they could release one every year and nothing else Gundam and I would be satisfied. The battle near the end between Camille in the Gundam Mk II and Rosamia in the Gaplant mobile armor was particularly fun to watch.

So I watched TNA on Spike and I actually liked it! You know why I liked it? Was it the great wrestling? No. Was it the ex WWE stars? No. Was it the different octagon ring? No. The only reason why I liked it was that it is DIFFERENT and not WWE. Not knowing alot of the wrestlers and gimmicks and stories, felt like 96 all over again when I tuned into WCW and didn't know what the hell was going on.

Hahhaha, I never even noticed that other guy. The only reason I even noticed Darkwolf is because he was lovingly cleaving people's ribcages with his axe. Other than that, I vaguely remember some blond blurry thing following around the bouncing boobs as they escaped from a octopus, bunch of animal men, and struggled as a flying thing grabbed her.
-
I love the leopard guy in this movie. Especially when he buried his axe in someone's chest. Crazy stuff. That and the immense jugs on the female character who seemed to have no problem crawling through fire and ice with barely anything but string covering her privates.

That's like criticizing Star Wars for having "The Force". Gundam productions without newtypes are possible and done, but Gundam was conceived around the whole Newtype phenomenon. Its a key concept of Gundam, just like mobile suits are.
