All the incomplete scenes, you mean? I couldn't believe Paramount thought unfinished effects shots were acceptable for an official home video release. The same sequence appears in the syndicated TV version, too! Not at all. I've always thought there was a lot to love about The Motion Picture, but it's far from "well-made." The production was a textbook case of mismanagement, right from Day One -- announcing a release date before they had a finished script, even -- and millions were wasted on unusable effects work from a studio that simply wasn't up to the task. The result was a production grossly over-budget, with an incomplete script, incomplete effects, an incomplete edit that needed a lot more work, and a film rushed to theaters that failed to satisfy critics, general audiences, or even most Star Trek fans. Over two decades later, Robert Wise was finally given the chance to complete the film properly, thanks to the success of the Star Wars: Special Edition. Incomplete shots could be finished with CGI, the sound design could be revised and updated, and the film could be properly edited for pacing and continuity. The 2001 Director's Edition is what the film was supposed to be, and it's far superior to the theatrical release, the "Special Longer Version," or the syndicated television cut. Of course, Paramount managed to screw up that release as well, with the short-sighted decision to render the effects and master the film in 480p. Within five years, Blu-ray had made standard-definition obsolete, and the subsequent HD release of The Motion Picture had to be struck from 1979 negatives. Now, 15 long years later, we're FINALLY getting a definitive release of the complete film in high-definition, with updated 4K visual effects elements. 🤩 @pengbuzz, you've waited long enough. It's time to join us in the 21st century. 😊

Amazon.jp says April 30, meaning it'll ship at the beginning of May... and international shipments will likely be delayed until May 6th, after Golden Week. So expect to wait another six weeks or so (unless you ordered from a US retailer like BigBadToyStore, of course).

I like the look of their Searchlight homage, and that he includes a toy head, a Sunbow/Marvel head, and even a head to match his Headmasters appearance.- 9240 replies

Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures

No, dude, it's not like that at all. Filoni elevated Darth Maul to a principal character by the end of Clone Wars, and bent over backwards to squeeze him into Rebels as well. Which is why Favreau and Filoni knew to leave well enough alone. Oh sure, 'cause it makes a lot more sense to keep bringing back the guy who got cut in half. 🙄 Apparently you've skipped all the good Star Wars content over the last two decades. Did you see The Last Jedi? Solo: A Star Wars Story? The Book of Boba Fett, perhaps? Sucker. 😝

All due credit to Gareth Edwards. Dude's managed to make the only good Star Wars film AND the only good Godzilla movie in the last four decades.

Congrats! Looks like you're having fun with it. I don't recognize the Marines. Are they video game characters...? -
No, you're not... but I've learned not to criticize what others praise on these forums.

General (1/12, 1/18, 1/24 Scale) Action Figures Thread
tekering replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's amazing that 1:12 scale figures are starting to look as good as 1:6 scale figures did a decade ago...! Unfortunately, they cost as much, too. "Legendary Assassin?" Is this an unlicensed third-party figure or something? They don't have the rights to use the name John Wick...? -

Who are these characters? What scale are these figures? What company is producing them? How can they be ordered? When will they be released? How will they be distributed? A little context would be appreciated. -

1/48 SOUTHERN CROSS BIOROID PART II
tekering replied to captain america's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The hip joints and the internal structure of the abdomen look identical to the previous 'Lloyds, with some minor modification evident in the hands and the pistols. It's at least 90% new parts, though. That's a considerable understatement. 🤩- 148 replies

Very stable, easy to balance. A stand is only necessary for dynamic poses (which is what it's designed for). The instructions include a detailed marking guide, and even explains what the markings represent (in Japanese, at least). I was surprised to see the Roman alphabet represented...! You'd have to drill holes if you wanted to mount those parts. I'm more likely to use them on my ol' Bandai Regults, I think. Yes, the plastic is a clean, bright white... but being a model kit, you're expected to paint it. 😝 Depends on what you're displaying them with! 😅 Zentraedi scale is a very subjective thing.

And it's only gonna get worse, as we transition to a 4K standard. They only rendered the graphics at 1080p resolution. 🙄 Frankly, though, it didn't look great even twenty years ago. It's always been painfully obvious how limited ILM's motion capture software was; they clearly could only track subjects in constant motion, leading to a clone army that simply can't stand still. The Clone Troopers are constantly shifting their weight and fidgeting like they've gotta pee or something. Of course, it's an extremely minor nitpick compared to the quality of the acting, the dialogue, the editing, the attempts at humour, and every other failing of the prequels...
