  1. Congrats on completing a very realistic B-52, @derex3592. Another glorious Mortar Headd for your collection! Those yellow eyes on the shoulders are genuinely creepy. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I've always been partial to the PEGASUS myself... It's that unique cluster of engines that sets it apart. The original Galactica occupies a spot in my collection, too, of course... ...but nuBSG is infinitely superior. For the past twenty years, it's been widely considered the best sci-fi TV series of all time (although Andor and The Expanse may have eclipsed it nowadays). Anyone familiar with the original BSG, however, is even more likely to appreciate it by comparison. ๐Ÿคฉ
  2. Some Robotech fans call it the VF-1P. ๐Ÿคช
  3. As they should. ๐Ÿ‘ Thanks for the heads-up! Got the Python pre-ordered. It looks fabulous. ๐Ÿคฉ
  4. That's the OVA version: Different design entirely.
  5. I'd say you've beaten him to the punch! Terrific review, including the pictures. ๐Ÿ‘ Totally! That's why I was so excited about the Netflix shows... It was exactly what we'd always wanted to see, the toys more-or-less accurately depicted onscreen (with a heavy dose of Sunbow inspiration). Visually, the series -- and the toy line that accompanied it -- was a dream come true! ๐Ÿคฉ Unfortunately, the story, music, dialogue, and voice acting was so mediocre, the resulting show was at best, forgettable... and at worst, unwatchable. ๐Ÿ˜’ You'd think, after decades of anime influence on the US market, American animation producers would've stopped commissioning original stories, and learned how to adapt a successful comic book series. IDW had numerous storylines ripe for adaptation. Just imagine what could've been... You can hardly be blamed for that... Sunbow Productions didn't properly credit the overseas studios any more than Harmony Gold did with Robotech. ๐Ÿคจ In fact, it's entirely fair to say Sunbow was responsible for the animation, since they were the company that hired Toei, AKOM et.al. ๐Ÿ˜‰
  6. Fair enough; I'm old enough to remember hating on "Action Masters" for that very reason. The older I get, however, the less I enjoy playing with toys. The primary purpose of my action figures is to represent fictional characters in photographs and displays, and toys that don't transform generally fulfill their purpose as character merchandise more effectively. Now, don't confuse Sunbow (the US production company) with Toei (the Japanese animation studio, and their sub-contractors), AKOM (the Korean animation studio, and their sub-contractors), or TMS (for Transformers: The Movie). "Sunbow" refers to the Floro Dery designs, model sheets, scale charts and such, which were internally consistent (if somewhat inadequate). The "toon" that resulted was rife with inconsistencies and errors, but you can't lay that at Sunbow's feet. We don't hold Shoji Kawamori, Haruhiko Mikimoto, or Big West responsible for the poor, off-model animation of SDFM, after all... Like you, in fact, I often get a chuckle over the oxymoronic expression "cartoon-accurate." ๐Ÿ˜
  7. 3D-printing allows you to manipulate digital models at a level of detail impossible to achieve by hand, and upscaling presents the opportunity to achieve accuracy far beyond what commercial toys or models are capable of. The potential is limitless. It's insane he upscaled such an inaccurate, low-resolution model, when there are so many better options available. He didn't even bother to replace the astromech! ๐Ÿคจ At 1:6th scale, R2-D2 should be a thing of beauty, not an abomination like that. ๐Ÿซฃ And don't even get me started on that cockpit... ๐Ÿ˜ง What a bizarre waste of time and resources.
  8. MOST people, yeah. ๐Ÿซ
  9. 12K resolution, meaning a layer height of 50 microns.
  10. Oh, that's a popular one! Many versions are available. Don't we all? ๐Ÿ˜… I'm hoping to complete at least one massive SDF-1 in the next six weeks... ๐Ÿซฅ
  11. Oh, I loved their Reformatted Predaking. It remains the best combiner ever produced at that scale. Still definitive, even after all these years. ๐Ÿ˜
  12. G.M.G. used to be a great figure line. The generic soldier figures came with alternate heads, helmets, and accessories for army-building, and as they began adding specific characters and vehicles, it got even better... ...but suddenly, as individual characters are being sold on cardbacks, anime accuracy has been thrown out the window. ๐Ÿ˜’ Unique headsculpts are getting slapped onto generic bodies, with horrific results. Mirai and Sayla are suddenly overweight, middle-aged hags. Amuro and Kai are suddenly as tall and broad-shouldered as Sleggar Law... who should actually be taller and lankier, actually. The new waves are an eyesore. None of these bodies are appropriate for these characters. If they try and shoehorn the pudgy Ryu and diminutive Hayato into this lineup, the results will be even more ridiculous... Buyer beware!
  13. True dat. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Looks like I've found another potential customer. ๐Ÿ˜… You know I offer resin 3D-printing services, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ 1:72, 1:48, or whatever scale you want to build it at... Several members of this forum can attest to the fine detail, quality, and affordability of my work. ๐Ÿ˜‡
  14. It turns out there's a TIE variant in The Empire Strikes Back I never even knew existed: This barely-glimpsed TIE shuttle delivers Captain Needa to Vader's Super Star Destroyer. I've decided I can kitbash one using existing toys, just as ILM kitbashed their model from existing parts: I'll just have to scratchbuild some of the exterior detailing. I wish I could concentrate on more than one model at a time... Even planning an upcoming project interferes with progress on an existing one. The more online research I pursue, the more I ignore what's lying on my workbench! ๐Ÿ˜“
  15. That VF1 may not have won the race, but it definitely won the modeling contest! ๐Ÿ†
  16. Well, that basically defines all secondary canon, doesn't it? ๐Ÿ˜‡ Official "mook" sources like the Macross Master Files are full of such extrapolation, even if it may occasionally contradict what was inconsistently depicted in the original animation (or vintage promotional art). This is a distinction best applied to terrestrial installations, rather than units assigned to operations in space (where the "aerial" classification is less significant). Thus, Destroids assigned to the SDF-1 may sport the traditional UN Spacy roundels, whereas those assigned to Earth bases would have the reverse-color roundels.
  17. I wouldn't have minded, if they'd at least nailed the robot mode... but sheesh, what's with that face? I don't remember Powerglide looking like a psychotic murderbot. Yikes!
  18. Right now, Amazon.jp has it for 46% off! Go go go!
  19. Well, if money was no object...
  20. A collection to be proud of.
  21. They don't get much rarer than this... The Kubrick Star Wars DX Series 2 chase AT-ST Driver. It's taken me FIFTEEN YEARS to track one down! ๐Ÿฅฒ
  22. As Hasbro Star Wars toys are no longer imported by Toy Sapiens, Amazon.co.jp is now the official Japanese retailer... although they seem a little confused by the product line: This image links to all the Black Series listings, but neither the vehicle nor the figure it comes with are part of the line. ๐Ÿ™„
  23. As an oldskool Geewunner with no skin in this particular game, that seems like a pretty decent compromise to me...
  24. A fitting subject for a sequel to Best Worst Movie, perhaps...?
