Have you ever seen a Legioss that could pull off a two-handed grip? Forward and back. Well, the rotating shoulder hinge is die-cast, but the parts that connect to the arm are all plastic... However, there are more significant causes of concern. For starters, there's the faux ankle joint: Those are some scary-looking stress marks holding the piece that connects the foot to the leg. As you can see, there are two little screws that attach the ankle piece to the leg, but the connection isn't particularly solid; there's definitely a little side-to-side play, but don't mistake it for actual ankle tilt. If you try to twist the foot in one direction or the other, you're just going to cause further stress to that connection. I actually had to replace the upper screw there with a larger one just to keep the piece secure, since it had worked itself loose in the hours or so since I first got the figure... Note the stress mark on the tip of the rectenna fin, too; it's just a little too long to properly stow under the panel in Armo-Fighter mode, and will likely get bent every time you go back to fighter again. Thankfully, Evo used the best possible plastic for pieces like this -- rigid enough to hold the shape, but soft enough to bend without snapping off -- so regardless of what you think of the aesthetics, it's an excellent choice for the durability of the toy. Nonetheless, I'd recommend just trimming the top 5-6mm off that fin. A more complicated problem is the missile cover hinge on the shoulders. It's a double-jointed design, meant to open up and then fold down flat against the side of the shoulder, but there isn't enough clearance to get the piece to fold properly. I'm afraid to force it, especially since it's just as likely to scratch the painted surface as it is to snap off at the hinge, so it only opens up half way. It's a relatively minor issue, but one to be wary of nevertheless. I'll let you know if I encounter any serious problems. Exactly the same height as Granddaddy Gakken, as it turns out! Or, to be more precise:

Not an illusion! It's an admittedly low bar to cross, but the Evo achieves it. It's a pain to put the gun in his hand -- you literally have to remove the fingers to do it -- but the tab in the palm guarantees a very solid grip. Yes, mid-thigh/upper-knee joints and shoulders are ratcheted. I'm not transforming my blue "Masterpiece" Alpha (we all know what a ticking time bomb that is!), so you'll have to settle for a red Toynami in Armo-soldier mode: Exactly like an unpainted Gunplay finish, I'd say... orr a Transformer. Like most toys, any skilled modeler could make it look better. And, to be fair, it'll look a whole lot better stickered up. The stickers even have a nice matte finish to them, so they don't stand out against the painted surfaces. My thoughts exactly. Well, it's obviously an improvement over that!

It's easily the best Legioss toy we've ever got -- faint praise, given the competition, but nonetheless satisfying -- despite the inherent weaknesses of an Evolution Toys product. While it looks the part, fighter mode doesn't hold together very well... but fighter's always been the weakest mode of any transformable Legioss. Armo-Diver mode has all the requisite articulation to strike the iconic poses, but you can see visible mold flash on the inside of the left leg there... Armo-Soldier is where the figure really shines. It's well-proportioned and holds together best in this mode. Surprisingly well-articulated, too... even the head! Of course! It would look awfully plain without them. There are plenty of markings included, for all three basic variants.

The situation has gotten really bizarre this week. On Monday, Amazon.jp sent me this e-mail: ご注文いただいた商品と新しいお届け予定日は以下のとおりです。 "可変レギオス エータタイプ ノンスケール ダイキャスト&ABS製 塗装済み 完成品 可動フィギュア" お届け予定日: 2017-11-29 - 2017-12-01 So the release was moved from November 29th to December 1st. Yet another delay, but a practically insignificant one. But then today, Amazon.jp sends me this e-mail: ご注文いただいた商品と新しいお届け予定日は以下のとおりです。 "可変レギオス エータタイプ ノンスケール ダイキャスト&ABS製 塗装済み 完成品 可動フィギュア" お届け予定日: 2017-11-17 - 2017-11-20 So the release date was suddenly moved back up to November 17th, then delayed to November 20th?

Yeah, I don't have a problem with the "VF," but the nosecone is a deal-breaker. I wonder if they'll manage to sell anywhere near a thousand at that price?

The new base looks like a 1:6 scale reproduction of the pinpoint barrier control system: Way to make your giant statue look like a dorky toy, Kids Logic.

Not at all; it's just the angle of the shot. I can achieve exactly the same effect with my Toynami, see: ...despite its big-ass honkin' feet.

MOSPEADA INBIT KIT REVIVAL IV: EAGER?
tekering replied to captain america's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, my images are taken directly from the remastered Blu-rays, with much better contrast ratios and more accurate color reproduction than others may have seen. The old 16mm prints Harmony Gold used for Robotech were fairly accurate (if muted), but the DVDs released by ADV (both as Mospeada and Robotech Remastered) have a heavy bluish tint that seriously compromises the color accuracy. Thus, most people are probably working from inferior reference material. Here are some more screen captures from the Blu-rays: Apart from getting scans of actual cels, I think this is the best color reference we're gonna get.- 50 replies

MOSPEADA INBIT KIT REVIVAL IV: EAGER?
tekering replied to captain america's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You might be waiting a while... I can't find anything off the shelf to match these colors: The closest I can find are Gundam Color Spray SG10 "MS Char Pink," and SG11 "MS Char Red." Designed for Char's Zak II, they're awfully close... ...but I think I'll be mixing my own paints and airbrushing the primary colors for an exact match.- 50 replies

Obviously not, since their SDFM "Storm Attacker" kit is just a retooled version of their DYRL kit:

While I welcome further expansion of the line, I'd hope Bandai at least completes the original Macross line-up before delving any further into the sequels...
-
While I agree with your logic, the onscreen evidence doesn't: Macross City was a bustling metropolis, complete with highways, freeway overpasses, and numerous skyscrapers. You've got your work cut out for you, sir.

Online Vendors to Buy Japanese Toys
tekering replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've always found BBTS to be a reliable source of product that I can't get anywhere else, so I'm prepared to pay higher prices when I don't have any alternative. Their customer service is top-notch, and problems with products I've received are always dealt with in a prompt and courteous manner. However, here in Japan, packages aren't usually charged customs duties unless they're clearly merchandise, and BBTS shipping boxes always call attention to themselves in that manner. I rarely have to pay additional fees on shipments from Chinese retailers, because their packaging isn't adorned with company logos (and often the paperwork is marked "gift" specifically to avoid such customs charges). -
Bandai to release Star Wars Model kits
tekering replied to Wiz13688's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As usual, the Cap'n makes an excellent point here... And he didn't even mention this studio-scale Falcon: So sure, Bandai could do a minor retool and call it accurate to ONE of the ESB Falcons, at least. Discussing the digital versions gets even more complicated, as there are significant differences between the 1997 Special Edition version, the 2004 DVD version, The Force Awakens version (and, lest we forget, the Attack of the Clones version!). Among other ESB changes, steering yokes were added to the cockpit consoles.- 188 replies

No, I'm sorry... I just can't. I can't begin to process this level of detail. How is this even possible?

Bandai to release Star Wars Model kits
tekering replied to Wiz13688's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh, I highly doubt Bandai would do that. In order to make an ESB Falcon anywhere near as accurate as their ANH Falcon, they'd have to start from scratch. It's not just a matter of landing gear bays or sidewall greeblies; the overall shapes and proportions are significantly different between the two studio models. Back in 1979, ILM had neither the time, the money, nor the resources and technology Bandai has when they set out to build a new Millennium Falcon model, and thus their ESB Falcon is nothing more than a scratchbuilt 1:48 fan reproduction by today's standards. It's not nearly as inaccurate as the Elstree studio set, of course -- and the casual fan isn't likely to notice any difference -- but for serious Falconophiles like myself, it's a totally different bird. Bandai could simply retool parts of their PG Falcon to make it look more like the models seen in the sequels, sure, but the result would be an awkward hybrid that wouldn't measure up to their current standards of accuracy.- 188 replies

Bandai to release Star Wars Model kits
tekering replied to Wiz13688's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think Bandai made a brilliant decision to reproduce the original five-footer, and thus avoid direct competition with the FineMolds Falcon. At 1:72 scale, the FineMolds still represents the finest reproduction of the ESB Falcon, and Bandai's now represents the finest reproduction of the ANH Falcon. The two complement each other quite well, I think.- 188 replies

Actually, there are very few high-resolution scans available there, and there's no mechanism for users to upload them, either. I think this is a great idea, and could be a very valuable resource, provided we follow a few ground rules: Scans must be at least 300dpi. Anything smaller is of little use to anybody. Scans must be clearly labeled in message text, so they're easy to locate with the search function. Whenever possible, a picture of the box should be included for ease of identification. I'll start by offering what little I have to share: ARII 1:100 VF-1J Valkyrie Fighter (original release) ARII 1:100 Regult Tactical Scout Type (original release) Hasegawa 1:4000 SDF-1 Macross w/Prometheus and Daedalus If we follow this format, I see great potential here.

Close. They're designed for 1:150 N-gauge train sets.
