I keep learning bad news lately. One of the bright spots I had to look forward to was Yamato 2202. So much for that. I've already emailed to have my pre-order cancelled. Not sure I'll even bother with a Voyager Entertainment release if that's the way they're heading. The very fact they're taking this giant step backwards is ridiculous.

I am so looking forward to this, and dreading it at the same time. I'm nervous that they're leaning so heavily toward the movie version. There's some potentially good stuff to mine there, but I think the TV show was the better version of the story by far. I'm also nervous they're feeling the need to alter so much, but the beginning of Gatlantis/Comet Empire is far from classic, so I'm hoping things will be fine. I'm fine with changes, but there better be damn good reason for anything changed from the Battle of Saturn onward. The end of the series is damn near perfect as far as I'm concerned. Bandai needs to announce a new release of the Chogokin Andromeda. I need it to go with my Yamato. NEED!

Hmmm. I like Hikaru's red and black more than Roy's yellow and black. I'll have to decide if I want to double up on strike valks.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!

I got Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel Part 2 (PS3) the other day. I still haven't seriously started the first one. I'm currently playing Shining Force CD (SegaCD). I'm at the tail end of the second book. Other than that, I haven't played much of my videogame collection the past few months. Maybe a little Frenzy on the Atari 7800, but that's about it.- 6831 replies

That's probably it. I had presumed it was a sample of the subtitles on the discs. I recall not liking the way they did the subtitles for what I saw, so instead of double dipping and buying Star Blazers 2199 BDs, I just finished out my original Yamato 2199 set. I remember feeling it was lazy for them to redo the subs, replace all the mentions of Yamato with Argo, and then not bother providing the Star Blazers names for the various characters. If they changed their minds after that and simply went with the original subs, then I think it was for the better.

I don't think the subs are the same. I remember watching a preview of the first episode of the Star Blazers 2199 release and the subs were entirely different from the ones on my Yamato 2199 Vol 1 BD. And of course on top of that they changed Yamato to Argo, which I don't really mind but it is distracting when the characters are clearly saying Yamato. Otherwise. frakk YEAH! COMET EMPIRE! FINALLY!

The trailer makes me think of Star Control II. Wouldn't that be cool? The borg (or some other enemy) invaded Alpha Quadrant and laid everything waste. The invaders were repelled at great cost, but now people are trying to claw their way back up to what they were before and re-explore the galaxy. The Discovery is the first new ship built since the great war. The very technologies of space travel needed to be rediscovered. And now it sets out to see what has happened to all the other pockets of Humanity, Romulans, Klingons, Vulcans, and other iconic Star Trek stuff. The look of the trailer even supports this kind of thing. The Discovery is simultaneously more primitive looking than the NX-01 and more grandiose, kind of like the tooling to make something even as graceful as the NX01 doesn't exist anymore. I think the only time we've ever seen a starship use an asteroid like the one shown as a drydock was in the Enterprise episode where the Tholians have the Defiant, implying the spiffier docks like the drydocks and spacedocks seen in other shows and movies aren't available. Finally there's that logo with the familiar Enterprise/Starfleet arrowhead. Doesn't the texture remind you of a borg cube? Of course, all of that is just fanciful daydreaming. For some reason the people in charge of Trek have a massive boner for reboots and pre-TOS stuff.

What are your top 10 favorite Valkyrie designs!
GabrielV replied to aurance's topic in Movies and TV Series
YF-19A (VF-19 Advance included, but not the Macross 7 VF-19s) VF-2SS with SAP (the non armored version would be way down, if not off the list entirely) VF-1 with Super Pack or Strike. Basically a tie. VF-0. A and D variants are my favorites. VF-25, but it needs a set of FAST packs with my preference being Armored then Super then Tornado. YF-29 VF-31A (I haven't even seen it in action and I already know I like it.) VF-4 (sentimental value from watching Flashback 2012 over and over and over) SV-51 (how did I forget this one? Spanner's list reminded me.) YF-21 (at this point I'm grasping at straws) I left off the FSW VF-31 fighters from Macross Delta because of their newness and I haven't had time to get used to them. Consider them grouped together with the VF-31A. I put the VF-31A on my list because it's really love at first sight with that one. It's possible in a few years the VF-31A might move up the list to be my #3 or so. Edit. Added the SV-51 at #9 and bumped the VF-2JA off the list. -

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in theaters Dec. 16, 2016
GabrielV replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Unless you're talking about a different shot, the one I'm thinking you're referring to is from near the beginning of Empire when the Executor is introduced. The Star Destroyer doesn't come out of the shadow of the SSD. It is eclipsed by the SSD. It has a shadow cast over it, not emerge from a shadow. Still, you are right. It's the same technique as the ESB shot: show the impressively large Star Destroyer and then show something so large it dwarfs it. I dunno. The shot from the trailer plays much faster, but it's very similar to the sequence of SDF-1 emerging from the shadow of Saturn. It's even from a very similar angle, in front and to the port side. Yeah, could very well be a coincidence, but to me it's a semi-interesting one. I like the perception I'm getting that this movie has it's own look inspired by other sources rather than the cynical and lazy mimicry of Force Awakens. -

I thought the same thing. I wonder if that's the traditional first shot after the opening crawl. I wonder if it's an intentional homage? -
OK. I finally have it (the Faerie Team Leader version). I spent yesterday evening with it. It's time to say what I think. Right out of the box, one of the backpack fins broke off. I removed the other, because it was clear I needed to in order to put the SAP backpack on. This is not anywhere near the same league as any of the Bandai or Arcadia Valks I own. Even the my VF-0A which had the leg break off while I posed it is so far beyond this. Even the Toynami Masterpiece VF-1 toys are much better than this. The only thing I can compare it to is the Toynami Masterpiece Alpha fighter. It's roughly equal to that floppy in battroid and crooked in fighter mode mess. It's just that the Alpha feels much sturdier. I got it in Battroid mode and... it looks OK. It stands on it's own. It holds it's gun pod extremely well. As a transformable toy, this thing is a bust. As a statue to be put on a shelf and be a pure display piece, it works. I'm not sure if I'll ever transform this thing again. I'm happy to finally have a new VF-2. I can retire my old Bandai model. But I'm not happy how much I paid for it. Maybe if it had been $120 USD total after shipping instead of nearly $300. PS: Turns out that I'm fine with the yellow stripe.
-
Nope. The Faerie Team Leader I received was the same. It had a sheet for the SAP and a sheet for features on it and the Nexx, but no instructions on how to transform it.
-
Maybe "don't use the ones in the main blister. Use these instead." ??

I love how the USPS has left $600 packages at my sidewalk without even knocking. Or they've dropped $300 packages requiring signature confirmation off at the office without a signature. But when someone is home and ready to accept the package. They say "no authorized recipient available" without even knocking OR even leaving a note and tell me I have until August 8 to pick up the item or it will be shipped back. The only way I even know a delivery was allegedly attempted is to look at the tracking information on the web. And since the online instructions say the place to arrange a pickup is listed on my notice slip, I have no way of knowing which office I need to contact. Oh, and they don't even update it until after the local post offices are closed, and then claim the delivery attempt was made at 3 and a half hours ago. Oh, but the other USPS package that arrived today? That was delivered fine. No problem delivering that one to my door.
-
And now I have my shipping notice and tracking number. I hope I'm sufficiently braced for disappointment.

AmiAmi sent me the payment request for the Faerie Squadron VF-2 today.
-
Look at the size of that! It's a Monster! Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all night!
-
No change to the Faerie Squadron variant since the last delay pushing it to this month.

Another delay notice from AmiAmi on the Faerie Squadron version.
