  1. Thanks for the patch update I just got home from a road trip and will be patching today. When I saw 20th Century Fox on the Blu-ray exclusive list I was immediately excited about the Alien/Alien's movies, two of my all time favoraites that I will rebuy even though I have them on Laserdisc and DVD (I just gave the VHS tapes to the Goodwill a few months ago), Let's hope the Christmas rumor is true and they put all the extra features from the various collections on there.
  2. For cables, Monoprice.com is your friend. HDMI cables run you about 6 dollars. The retail stores use them as a major mark-up item since you need them for your system and after spending a grand plus on a set, most people don't think too much about a 50 to 70 dollar cable they just put it on the plastic with their set.
  3. If I understand your set up correctly, yes you will need to get an HDMI to DVI adaptor and connect your audio via seperate cable. So Far as upsacling through component, I don't know for sure, never tried it, but the Sony statement says that to get the benefit of upscaling for DVD video you have to go through HDMI, for gaming, you may use component. I have played Gears of War through component cables on my 1080I TV (just an example of HD through component)and it looked fantastic although I don't know the resolution the 360 projects via HDMI, I don't have the PS3 component cables to test for a difference, but I take them at their word that this is not a feature they have enabled and you are restricted to HDMI cables to get the benefit of DVD upscaling.
  4. Here is the PS3 firware upgrade posting fro the playstations network from May that added DVD and PS1/PS2 upscaling. You can search the AVS forums for comparisons to other upscaling players, it offers a coparable if not superior upscale to my Panasonic DVR. Latest PLAYSTATION®3 Firmware Update Adds Upscaling for PlayStation®/PlayStation®2 Games and DVD Movies Remote Play on PSP®(PlayStation®Portable) System via...Print FOSTER CITY, Calif., May 23, 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today announced that the next regular system software update for the PLAYSTATION3 (PS3) computer entertainment system (version 1.80) will be available on Thursday, May 24, and will add upscaling of PlayStation/PlayStation2 games and DVD movies up to 1080p resolution. Now, in addition to displaying native high-definition (HD) content in the highest possible quality (1080p), PS3 system can turn standard definition content into a vibrant HD-quality experience. The latest firmware update also gives PS3 owners more flexibility to enjoy their digital entertainment content where they want to. The Remote Play feature for using a PSP(PlayStationPortable) system to access photos, videos, and music on a PS3 systems hard drive will be available from outside of a users own home via any Wi-Fi Internet connection, upon the next PSP firmware update. Additionally, PS3 can now play back media content stored on a personal computer or digital video recorder with Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) capability over a home network. As adoption of HDTVs continues to surge, we know that consumers are hungry for content, and this latest firmware update leverages the PS3s technology to deliver an HD-quality experience using the entertainment media already in your collection, said Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing, SCEA. In addition, we continue to enhance the PS3s capabilities as an entertainment hub, giving consumers the option to bring their content with them on-the-go, or to stream photos, videos, and music stored on their PC to the PS3 in their living room. Thats often where the largest TV monitor and sound system is located, giving consumers the best possible entertainment experience. Upscaling Games and Movies SCEA is enhancing the PS3 user experience by enabling PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games to be upscaled to HD resolution, up to 1080p. Classic games as well as recently released titles can now be enjoyed like never before. And PS3 system now has the capability to upscale DVD videos to HD quality (up to 1080p), a feature typically limited to top-of-the-line DVD players. Upscaling games requires an HDMI or component AV cable, while upscaling DVD-ROM (including DVD Video content) requires an HDMI cable and HDMI compatible TV set.
  5. Pods arrived today, I happened to be home awaiting the UPS guy whent eh mail-lady came. I haven't inspected the kits, but I am confident that everything is as it should be, thanks again for the offer!
  6. It does suck for the early adopter/consumer right now especially if your goal is a video player and not a game console. The problem with this format war that previous wars have not had is that the sides are entrenched with a vested interest in keeping their format alive and prorietary, and they have deep wallets. The creation of dual format players further muddies the water. You hit nail on the head though, the real problem here is that the line has been drawn by movie studios so your content is limited to a certain format by the manufacturer, if you go Blu-Ray and you really, realy want your favoraite movie by Universal in HD, then you are hosed, you have to buy an HD-DVD player or watch the film on regular old DVD, unless the players get extremely cheap, extremely fast that just isn't going to get it for your average consumer. Grandma ain't gonna toss her video tapes and Mommy isn't going to re-buy her DVD collection and 2 seperate players for HD/BR movies. If they continue to fight the format war, and the consumer does catch up to the technology, the fact is that people are going to tell both sides to jump in the lake, vote with their wallets and HD-Download will bypass the physical disc formats (which it is bound to do eventually anyway) and then they both lose. It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out in the end. As far as the PS3 goes, the next two months seems to be a pretty good time to buy if you were thinking about getting one in 2007/2008, the price cut and incentives may not be stellar, but they are better than a poke in the eye.
  7. You do need to buy your own HDMI cable, don't get screwed paying 50+ dollars for one though, they are just a few bucks online at monoprice, do some research, But I have ye tto find any compelling reason to buy a more expensive cable and I can't tell a difference. I bought a 50 dollar Sony HDMI cable when I bought my PS3 and I ordered a monoprice cable for 7 bucks a few weeks later for my DVR, I have swapped them out between units and I can't tell any signal difference ( and you shouldn't be able to with a digital signal.) Amazon's deal to toss in the remote and a 6th free movie on the spot isn't going to last very long I suspect, I ordered one for my brother's birthday last night. I already have the bluetooth remote so he gets that too but I am keeping the 6th movie As far as movies go, I think HD-DVD has a lot more of the fun action movies out right now, but 20th century Fox has an exclusive deal with blu-Ray so it is very likely that a lot of the classic action and sci-fi flicks will make it to the system soon, and of course anything Sony pictures made. I pre-ordered "300" last night.
  8. Yet another reason to buy it now. Save a hundred bucks and get hardware Emo, and a bunch of free mediocre movies. Amazon is doing a deal right now where if you buy a PS3 they are throwing in another Blu-Ray Disc and the Blu-Ray remote along with the 5 free Blu-Ray mail in offer. I ordered one last night as a birthday present.
  9. LOL ouch, yeah, there is a bunch of crap on that list. I might see if I can return them still packaged to Walmart for store credit to buy some decent flicks There are a couple decent flicks on there, but for the most part it's defenitely not scottish.
  10. While it sucks that the timing got you on the PS3 discount, try not to feel too bad, as much as people whine about the price, for the actual piece of Hardware you bought, the price is not unreasonable, with the system updates you have one of the best Blu-ray players on the planet, one of the best upscaling DVD players on earth, you can play damn near every PS1 and PS2 game ever made and they have graphic upscaling, you don't have any annual fee to play online, there is free and pay download content with the possibility of the largest downloadable game library possible (See PS1 and PS2 game libraries and unique game content). 100 bucks is 100 bucks, but still, you just happened to get unlucky on the dates of the news. Hell, what is the return policy, you could always take a chance and see if you can return it as "Dissatisfied" and then turn around and buy another at the discount price.
  11. As soon as I can find the discount in a store I am going to pick up a second unit while they still are equipped with the Emotion engine and hardware emulation for a Christmas present. I love how all the 360 gamers are trying to put down the PS3, it doesn't have a massive game catalog yet, Duh, anyone who expected one in the first year of release is a tard, but meanwhile 30% of 360's have crapped out and MS is planning for the eventuality that at least 50% of all units sold to date to die before the 18 month mark. It literally makes me laugh seeing them try to talk about Sony's past hardware errors. BTW my first gen PS1 still works, My first gen Japanese PS2 and US PS2 are still plugging right along in my living room FO Sony haters, you lose.
  12. Thanks, trust me Vince, I dig yours as well. I wasn't putting down the Z, they are awesome cars. For the time being, I am staying away from any serious modding of the car, this is my first "sports car" and it has plenty of pep for me as is. It' isn't the fastest car on the streets from the stoplight, but trust me, it goes when I want it to. There are plenty of lively discussion on the costs and benefits of turbocharging the rotary on the RX-7 and 8 forums, I have a lot of research to do before I even think about any upgrades like that, and I also have a long time under warranty that I don't want to void playing with aftermarket powertrain mods
  13. I still have the other decal in my F-150, I will probably pull it now since I am just using that as a work truck and put the second one back in my Macross display case. Not to sound too much like a car saelsman, but Mazda is offering huge discounts on RX-8s right now, with the end of the model year (Which is comedy since the car essentially hasn't changed except for options since 2004) these cars are extremely affordable if you are in the market for a new ride. I gather from my research that the American audience is distructful of the rotary engine too, I have been told that the RX-8 while selling sufficiently to not warrant discontinuation, it hasn't been flying off the lots due to the "weird" engine and its "sports/sedan" status. I was actually out shopping for a Mazdaspeed 3, whihc are trememndously fun to drive, you can find very nice RX-8's for over 2 grand less, and while the Speed 3 had more off the line power, it was not nearly as fun to drive, and the speed 3 is fun to drive, the RX-8 just felt "right" to me though. At any rate, I got mine for $21,500 before tax/tag/title and Mazda has dropped an additional $550 discount for the month of July, So I am pretty certain a shrewd bargainer could find an 06'or an 07' on a lot someplace and get them down to between $20 and $21K without too much of a struggle, the loaded GT's sticker over 30 and I have seen those discounted on the lots in the 27 range. From a different angle.
  14. Too old, what are you 80? Those Z's are beautiful cars, for the price and the feel though, the RX-8 was the only choice for me, I have never felt so connected to a car, after over a dozen other test drives, nothing felt as right. I know the feeling wth regard to the kids, I can't pull up to a stoplight without having someone try to race with me. Oh well, that's the cost of having a stunning ride I guess
  15. I bought a 2007 RX-8 a couple weeks ago, man what a blast to drive ~Edit~ Deleted Wonky Picture~ added fresh one down the line. Sorry,The picture got a little distorted while I was shrinking it to conserve bandwidth.
  16. I'm in for one of each variant should you make both. ~ Edit Oh yeah.... Scout Scout Scout Scout!!!!
  17. Thanks My Defender will be next, I have it's base color laid in, I hope to finish off the last few details of the Tomahawk in the next two nights and get the Defender done by next weekend.
  18. My camera is having some focus up close issues, and I need to to a little weathering but I am pretty satisfied with the nearly finished product. Once I can get some better pictures I'll get them hosted on my web page
  19. I'm in, and I'd be happy to View your Thread twice, and naturally donate for my viewing pleasure twice, of course to help fund your scratch-build If one were so generous, could they expect (2) free kits? Oh yeah, I posted these a while back on the monkey boards, if you ever got motivated to do some more contemplate:
  20. Time to break out yuor modelling skills and drill and pin that baby well... not the baby...
  21. It(the suit) does look pretty good but damn I want to caption those pictures. "Where's the gate, I can barely walk in this thing, let alone climb a fence...."
  22. That sucks, sorry you got pushed too far. It is pretty obvious that you are infuriated, hopefully once you have had a chance to collect your thoughts you will come up with some way to make a few bucks on the side and fulfill the need again. If you just wash you hands of it, well, thanks for trying
  23. Office Space is awesome, unfortunately, I don't need a mug to remind me, I live in that world every day. Eerily, horrifyingly reminiscent of my daily grind, with subtle differences, I get yelled at for filling out my TPC(TPS) report wrong, the copy/fax machine outside the door to my cubicle has been broken for the last two months and I get tech support questions from old goofballs trying to be cute every day. Lemme stop that before I really get into a rant. Anyhow, initech mug = cool , 1/72 monster = Teh Uber, and like they said, there is a lot of interesting stuff scattered around that place
  24. Any time you mix friends or family and money you are cruisin for a bruisin, age matters little. Money always brings out the worst in some.
