Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
kazuo replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
Pretty easily, actually. 1) Japan is known in general for lazy/bad transfers. 2) 1080i for the OVAs? lol 3) No subs for the OVAs - this one is more of a nitpick than anything else, but it's another knock against it for non-Japanese speakers I'm willing to bet the OVAs and the Movie are just an upscale from the DVD masters based on past history. Macross Plus isn't DYRL, they're not going to spend tons of money remastering this (yet). I'd hold off and wait for reviews unless you just really don't care about the quality. I can't justify spending $200 on upscaled Blurays and Bandai is lazy as frakk. The subs for the Movie will be from the Manga Video version. They're not going to re-translate, and, as memory serves, the only possible "stuff from Robotech" they used was maybe "Reflex" instead of "Reaction" (and I'm not even sure that actually happened, my memory is bad and I haven't watched the Manga version in a long time)... "Zentraedi" is a non-issue IMO since that was even up for debate among fans at the time until Bandai "officially" said it's spelled "Zentradi".- 516 replies

SO, uh, we know for sure the movie has been edited? EDIT: Also, not sure where you guys are getting the idea that prices are "crazy"; you can get these on YAJ right now for about the same as, if not slightly less than Japanese retail.

Just preordered and paid in full for two. Been waiting for this to be a reality for nearly 15 years. Gonna start my own fleet of overpriced Yamato crap yeahhhhhh In all seriousness, though, I hope these things aren't crap, but I have it on good authority that Yamato's latest releases are up to snuff, so I'm looking forward to getting this thing in my hands!

Play-Asia hasn't opened preorders yet because their supplier hasn't offered them. Some Bandai Blurays have english subs because Bandai basically stopped releasing stuff in the USA outside of digital. It's really hit-or-miss, though. I might have a lead on a vendor who will be offering the LE, I'll let you guys know once I know.

Macek died in 2010. Not sure if that was a joke or not. http://en.wikipedia....arl_Macek#Death The lack of subs is most likely due to the fact that Big West/Bandai will want to shop this set around for licensing in the USA. More money for them to be made by licensing it out than by selling ten or fifteen extra boxsets to guys on Macross World.
-
Region lock isn't an issue whatsoever for Japanese Blurays if you're in America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes tl;dr Japan & USA are in the same region. Just FYI.

Seconded. Given the rights issues Bandai has in the West, this is probably in their best interests... Then again, they probably make more money milking some company out here for the rights than they would selling a couple thousand (at best) discs.

Well, if you're serious about that, buy me all her albums and re-ship 'em to me! PM me? Also, IHATEYOU was kind enough to share the swf files off his USB stick. Here they are: http://rapidshare.com/files/408264296/Chie_Kajiura_-_Overflow.rar.html Enjoy, and thank him!

Point me in the right direction to buy the albums for $5 and I will happily do so. Note that amazonjp sellers won't ship outside of Japan, so it has to be someone who will actually ship them to the US.

Anyone want to do flac/iso rips of Chie Kajiura's albums? They're incredibly difficult to find and I don't want to spend $60+ on a music CD. Thanks

Fixed it for ya. Now excuse me while I start a thread complaining about how this site should be renamed MacurosuWorld. 311918 JBO your the best! Oh and uh I do know japanese. Anyone watching the new godzillar and ultrar man? YEE HA! 311927 Except that, you're both still being idiots. "Godzilla" isn't even "Godzilla" in Japanese - it's "Gojira." Of course, you already knew that. Ultraman = "Urutoraman," which is, Ultraman. Makurosu (the "u" after the k and at the end are essentially silent) = Makros, which is, Macross. So, you're all basically being idiots, trying to clown me, but you continue to clown yourselves. The assertion that we should rename Macross "makurosu" is stupid, because when did I, or anyone else, say we should use literal roman translation for titles? The point I am making is that the title is pronounced "Mospeeder," regardless of what you fools keep yammering on about. Even if you use the "official" english spelling of "M O S P E A D A," it is STILL pronounced as "Mospeeder," due to the manner in which the Japanese pronounce english words. Ask any native Japanese person to pronounce the title of the show, and it will always sound like "Mospeeder," unless they have some kind of speech impediment. I'm done with this thread, feel free to get the last word in because I'm not going to continue proving you guys don't know what youre talking about. Cheers

Wrong, cause you either don't know Japanese at all, or can't read katakana. A search for "mosupi-da" on Amazon reveals (with no corrections by the search engine) http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/search...1890730-4549954 Wow, look at that -- MOSUPIDA. NOT MO SU PI A DA. Let's take a CLOSER look at the cover image: Oh, look. MO SU PI - DA (the - denotes emphasis on the "i") MO S(the "U" is basically silent)U PIII DA Mo Spiiiiida MO Speeder Mo(tor)Speeder Done. You lose. As far as the "official" title, meh, its still Mospeeder to me, always has been, always will be. Even "MOSPEADA" can be read as "MOSPEEDER," because if you've ever heard a native Japanese speaker try to say either/or, it will still sound like "MOSPEEDER" because of the accent. Thank you.

Well, Rupan is on at like... 3:30AM on saturday/sunday night, isnt it? I honestly doubt the show pulls in any kind of numbers at that hour, its porbably just used as filler. I think Macross/Robotech is FAR more viable an option, however, because a LOT of people who fit AS' demographic used to watch it when they were a kid/teen, or still watch it now. Zeta would probably do much better than One Year War on AS, but not by much...

MO SU PI DA Mo Supida (Mow spee-da) Mo Speeder Mo(tor) Speeder Cyclones. It's Mospeeder. And I really really really really doubt it will be sold as a sequel to MOSPEEDER in Japan.. between all the Rick Hunter/SDF-3 references, as well as the masters and Protoculture.. it'll be a big "WTF" for the Japanese. Unless they hack the crap out of it...

There's actually been a lot of new developments, I'm surprised no one has mentioned it. http://www.theshadowchronicles.com/info.php?id=un UN PSA for the 20th Anniversary. Not actual voices, they were placeholders. (I think Scott Bernard = Solid Snake in this? lol, fart him, Greg Snegoff > Solid Snake) http://www.robotechespanol.com/index.php?o...ad&filecatid=34 Trailer shown @ Robocon. Notice the glaring error in the trailer that elicited laughter from the audience (and myself). So far, the show looks VERY promising.. at least more so than Macross Zero did. :/ Perhaps if its sucessful, it'll prod Big West to produce a good Macross sequel... and not utter shite like 7 and Zero. EDIT: Went back a few pages, so adding comments to previous posts. - This is NOT being sold as a sequel to Mospeeder in Japan. No way, no how. End of story. - Shadow Force probably refers to the Shadow Fighters which were introduced at the end of Mospeeder/The New Generation. They were steath variable fighters.

I recall them trying with Mobile Suit Gundam... didn't last more than a few months, IIRC. 310351 IIRC, The original MSG wasn't on Adult Swim, just regular CN blocks of programming, presumably Toonami. I don't know for sure what time/day it was on cause at the time, I didn't have CN. But it was NOT on Adult Swim. Old shows simply aren't marketable on Adult Swim because of the demographic it caters to. Robotech/Macross is an exception, IMHO. But One Year War Gundam? Forget it...

Gonna toss in my few cents. - The new animation looks great IMHO, retains a classic look despite the fact that its obviously done on computers (sniff), but its seriously jarring when it cuts from old animation to new. I don't mind the old style animation, since I grew up with it (in fact, I prefer it), but you must admit its very noticeable. - I hate gackt. - My recommended viewing order for UC Gundam: : One Year War Movies I, II, and III (aka the original series.. dont watch the tv series. Its crap) : 0083 - Stardust Memory (my second favourite series. I dont understand why people dont like it) : Zeta (my first favourite series ) : Char's Counterattack (wow) You can skip Double Zeta, its absolutely worthless, just read a synopsis on the internet. Yes, it improves in the second half, but thats like saying "the stench from that pile of dead bodies over there isnt too bad once you get used to it." Optional UC viewing: : 08th MS Team (happens during One Year War) : 0080 - War in the Pocket (happens right at the end of the One Year War. - As far as 0083 goes.. wow. I don't get how you guys don't like it. Just doesn't make sense to me. Its easily the best animated next to CCA, great great GREAT storyline (so much backdoor dealings and crap going on on both sides), and it really possesses what I feel to be the true elements of Gundam -- not big robots, but people, their relationships, and POLITICS. I personally believe that Zeta is MUCH better if you watch 0083 first, cause then you're not saying "WTF" when you are introduced to the Titans -- you know how they came to be, and what their purpose is. (Not gonna give spoilers, but if you were paying attention AT ALL in 0083, it makes perfect sense) done.

And dog sh*t is better than horse sh*t, but the fact remains that its still sh*t.

Too bad that UC Gundam is far and away superior to "Official" Macross now, due to the horror that is M7 and M0. Even the new Robotech series shows more promise than the last two Macross followups. AC Gundam still is, and will always be crap, however, especially when compared to Macross. Now, if only Macross could have someone new tossed into the mix to move away from this "it's the music, stupid!" nonsese...

R2 Macross Plus Movie disc has Dolby Pro Logic Japanese audio only. No subtitles of any kind. I own the disc. I'm willing to bet from the video, while superior to the Mangle version, is nothing more than a LD rip. The OVA boxset has Japanese 2.0 and English 5.1. No subtitles. You can still get the Movie from other sites, just look around...

Hey, thanks for the hard work, buddy. Gonna start ripping the disc tonight and authoring tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how it comes out. Sadly I have to do it on DVD5 cus thats all I got.. EDIT: Just finished compiling the image and there's no subtitle stream on the disc. Followed your directions to the letter. Only strange thing I noticed was when I opened the project file in dvdlab, it couldnt find the demuxed audio/video and asked me to locate them, which I did. Then everything else went fine. But, as I said, no subtitle stream is on the disc. EDIT #2: I see the problem, it HAS to be on the C:\ drive for whatever stupid reason. Sucks for me cus my C:\ partition is 20gb and I have no way to fit 7gb of data onto it if I tried. (I have several larger paritions thathave plentyof room) :/ Any way around this? EDIT #3: I figured it out while I was in the shower. Really simple solution: put the demuxed files anywhere you want, and when dvdlab asks where they are, tell it. Only the files in the .zip archive need to be in the root directory. Yay!

Care to explain how I am a "hypocrite" ?
