Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
ArchieNov replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Glad I'm not a fan of Voltron. I always found his battles way too lame (he'd immediately form his blazing sword after combining and then kill the robeast in one blow) and he sometimes used weapons that came out of nowhere, never to be used again (knee beams). But the SOC toy looks good for what it is. I just never liked the aesthetic of Voltron (lion heads for hands and feet). -
Mine has the loose ankles too out of the box. It actually facedived once and ended up blunting the nosecone a bit. Never again will I trust it to stand on its own. How did you fix it? I thought it wasn't possible to get to that joint without damaging the toy.

I thought the general consensus was that the YF-19 had the worst gerwalk mode hehe. Curious though. Why would you count the VF-25 as having a great gerwalk mode, but not the YF-29? I always thought that the YF-29 had a strictly better gerwalk mode compared to the VF-25 because of the back mounted guns and the rotating wing pods.

Hey zzj. Now that you've gotten yourself an Arcadia YF-19, did it meet your expectations?
-
I have a similar issue, but with the YF-30 and VF-22S from Yamato. Surprisingly, I don't have it on my VF-31J.

I think MacrossJunkie was able to match the blue paint successfully. He may be able to help you. Edit: Found his post

I wouldn't think that applies here (though I do remember this being brought up before). I believe we came to the conclusion that N-Y was able to have a higher number of preorders available not by securing more stock from Bandai, but by getting them from other retailers (possibly brick and mortar stores) and reselling them on their site. If I'm not mistaken, someone was able to prove this because one of his DX orders from N-Y still had the price label attached to it from the other store. It would make a lot of sense then for N-Y to increase the prices for succeeding batches because they were probably also buying them from these retailers at more than wholesale distributor prices. Add to that the cost of logistics as well. And I don't know why N-Y still has the rep of being a scalper up to this day. It has been proven time and time again that N-Y usually offers the best prices for their initial stock compared to other online retailers. And they have also shown that sometimes when they open more preorders, the price doesn't increase from the previous batch (or even goes down at times). This is additional proof that they're basing their pricing more on how much it cost them to acquire the items rather than just marking them up unreasonably. Anyway, I'm sad that N-Y is no longer able to be my main site for preordering these DX valks since they no longer open up more after the inital stock is gone. Fortunately, it seems Amiami is starting to fill that role now. Not sure though how they manage to secure their additional preorder stock.

If this is indeed the case, then it was something I had been warning people about years ago. I complained back then about how people were making preorders with N-Y only to not honor and cancel them later on once they found a cheaper deal somewhere else. I warned that if they kept doing stuff like that, eventually N-Y won't think it's worth it to secure additional stock from other retailers in order to increase preorder availability.

Thanks, Ignacio! You solved my issue

This may be a dumb question, but how do you automatically jump to the latest unread post in a topic under the new site? Prior to the December update, all I had to do on my mobile was click on the topic title and it would start me at the first unread post. Nowadays, I keep having to manually scroll down and/or remember the last page I read in a topic.

Nope. I've been following up with them since 12/19 but all they kept saying is that they had a lot of orders to process due to the holidays but will ship mine as soon as possible. I have this sneaking suspicion that the delay might be because I had another item in the same shipment, an MP-17 Prowl. When I placed that order it went out of stock so that means I got the last one. Since this item is an out of print figure, maybe they were having a hard time finding it on their warehouse?

Finally got my copy from HLJ today (man they suck at packaging stuff, no protection at all). I would have to agree that this is one of the best valks made in terms of engineering, and may hopefully usher in a new era of hip ratchets Still not perfect though as people have mentioned. I also would've preferred less of a gap behind the cockpit, and index fingers that could bend to make a better fist. But unlike most here, I actually like the frosted canopy. I don't mind the rear landing gear either as it's screen accurate. I do have a few very minor QC issues (paint errors), but these are barely noticeable unless you really look for them. Everything else is great. But the ONE thing that I think they got wrong with this valk is the Freya figure. It doesn't sit flush in the rear seat. Now the only thing left that's upsetting me is that NY hasn't shipped my other copy. It's been in Preparation in progress since 12/19. And I even paid for UPS so I could get it before the holidays. Sigh...

Yeah, that's what I did when I placed the order back then. Thanks for clearing that up.

No, it's not that. I have the same issue as vlenhoff. I've disassembled the joint to see what's causing it and I think they just angled that last ratchet the wrong way or something. Sometimes I find myself taking that joint apart and putting it back together collapsed because I'm also fearful of breaking it with too much force.

Question: I didn't receive a payment request from HLJ, but suddenly got an email and text notification from my CC company that I had been charged. I checked my order on the website and it now says that it was paid and is in processing. Is this normal (not to have gotten a payment request)?

It looks so beautiful Didn't expect it to be that tall though. Edit: Just watched the video review. It's even better than I expected. It's probably the first time a valk has had both thigh and knee swivels, and hip ratchet joints!

I don't quite understand your trick. Can you elaborate further?

It looks even better in video than it did in pictures... well to me anyway. Excited to get one in hand for myself.

I'm probably in the minority when I say that I'm not fond of Messer's color scheme. I get that people want a more "realistic" or less garish color, but low-viz schemes usually don't look impressive on the shelf. Among my VF-25 DX's, it's actually Luca's minty green valk that immediately catches and holds my attention. I've also lost enthusiasm for the emblem on the back. I thought I'd like them a lot before getting Ozma's valk, but the longer I own it, the more I realize that it doesn't really do much for me. I actually prefer the naked paint job of Hayate's VF-31 over the one with the emblem. If I was going to choose among the 5 main VF-31's, I'd probably just go with Hayate's and Mirage's first. Arad's comes last though because while I am not fond of low-vis anymore, they're still better than overly colorful schemes like his. Slightly off-topic: Who is the most formidable pilot (in their custom valk) in Frontier and Delta in 1 vs 1? I personally think Brera in his Super VF-27 is the best.

I think Hikaru would classify as an ace, especially how he handled himself in the last attack against Bidolza. But I agree that he is outclassed by Max and the other better ace pilots. Kinda like how Amuro makes Char look like a chump. Or how Max made Millia look like a fool (in real combat, in the arcades, and in hand to hand). He wasn't even fighting her seriously the entire time and was mostly thinking about how he can date her.

Since people are posting pics of their HMRs on stands, might as well show off my own Valkyrie Xmas tree...

I think you just set yourself up to fall into the rabbit hole there. Now that you have one of the Re:Edit figures and see how awesome they are, you won't be able to resist getting more. I have all of them myself and I consider them the best overall Iron Man figures around (yes, even including Hot Toys). -

None of the ones in that pic are from the Re:Edit line. Like Slave IV mentioned, Re:Edit figures are noticeably larger in scale compared to Comicave or SH Figuarts. -
I transformed my Hikaru VF-1J today and I noticed that the wrist part was assembled backwards. You can see it on the left side where the gap in the wrist is more prominent and it sticks up more. Is there an easy and non-damaging way to split the forearm apart so I can reassemble it correctly? It feels like it was glued together.
