  1. He's probably talking about the characters, though. Figma did a Lum figure and even stuff from Plawres Sanshirou, so I guess it's conceivable that someone may do a Minmay at some point. However, if you want a Hikaru or Misa, forget it.
  2. No, it was an excrutiating weekend-long marathon screening of all three Gundam movies at Toshima Ward hall in Ikebukuro, followed by Tomino coming out and shouting at the audience in his own inimitable fashion. I swear my head is still ringing, one month on. Seriously, I had a splitting headache after hours of the same grating explosion sound effect, and that night I joined Tochiro and gang for podcasting malarkey regarding this movie in question here (Frontier Movie 2). I'm sure that added to my bitterness about moviegoing in general, and putting a microphone in my face that night meant that you were going to get some harsh words! Nevertheless, I remember I did have quite a fair bit of praise for this movie, while totally dissing Frontier Movie 1 into a pulp, perhaps somewhat unfairly. So, Tochiro, when is that thing seeing the light of day? Or was I supposed to keep my mouth shut (or typing fingers... er... away from the keyboard)? As for Gundam Unicorn and stuff, yeah I saw the three episodes that are out now a few weeks ago, after a failed attempt to watch all three Zeta Gundam movies. Dear God, I couldn't even make it through half of the first movie lest I die of boredom, so I gave up, skipped everything I was planning to see including Char's Counterattack and went straight on to UC -- which is frickin' incredible. I'm quite enjoying that show. The battles are good for the most part, but it's the character animation which stands out above most other shows in recent memory, and yes, I'm including Frontier, of course. I fully second the motion to have Macross anime of this caliber. --Edited to add GUNDAMNING EVIDENCE--
  3. Well.... To this day I have never, ever seen a Japanese movie audience react to anything in any way whatsoever. No laughing at comedies, certainly no gasping. (Silent crying, maybe, but then Japanese movies these days are formulaically designed to make people cry.) That is, aside from DYRL, where there were standing ovations and applause all round, but then, that film is like holy scripture, not of this Earth, so the exception, not the rule.
  4. It's a really good, straight-up, entertainment movie, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a good time. And I pretty much thought the first installment was a boring disappointment, even going in with low expectations. After the hype of Avatar, and other forgettable crap I saw last year (aside from maybe Toy Story 3, I guess), it feels weird to "enjoy" a movie again.
  5. Heh. What, did they run out of Japanese things to do? How come there's no Godzilla, anyway? License issues?
  6. Yeah, they can take a hell of a beating all right. But heaven forbid you attempt to transform them.
  7. Oh, cool, around the time the live-action Robotech movie comes out, then? (SORRY, SORRY!! I couldn't help myself.) Anyway, to show a lighter side of all of this and get away briefly from the doom and gloom, here are some pics of my fallen comrades. The Genesis of Aquarion? More like "Revelation"... If this shelf looks mostly empty, there's a reason. Note the two FAST pack missile things. Also, that bent nosecone is pretty funny. ...Ah, there's the rest of my 1/48 Millia. Took one hell of a dive. "Koenig" Monster... de-throned. Note also the books piled atop it. These guys look like they're just chillin'. But nothing was damaged! Or so I thought. I later took a look at my Proto-Garland and it had snapped in half. But that toy hated me from the very second I took it out of the box, hell, so many pieces broke off it even before the earthquake that I think it just used the quake as an excuse to disintegrate. Kudos to the Yamato stands, too. They shifted position a fair bit and almost slid off the shelves, but they never gave. As I said in another thread: great investment.
  8. I don't know but personally I'm holding out for the kit version. It's likely to be cheaper anyway.
  9. "Integrated neck shield"? Where? The YF-19 has a neck gap in fighter mode that is not covered. It looks the same on the Kai if you do not use the cover, which they include. The YF-19 does not include a cover, therefore, I find that the Kai is better in this respect.
  10. I found that you don't need to have ever seen anything to do with Macross to enjoy this movie. Or even anime. That might just be me, though. Also, I've seen everything Macross so I'm not even sure that's a valid opinion.
  11. Whaaat. You don't actually think he may otherwise be referring to, I dunno, the magnitude 8.2 Aomori earthquake and tsunami from 1968, do you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZfFK2Jc67k&feature=player_embedded Yes, because this one clearly had an effect on the release of volume 3 of Macross the First. As for this month's chapter itself, I actually found it a bit too short compared to last issue's. Nothing much really happened...
  12. You know, yesterday over lunch with Gubaba we talked about this and I remembered something from a couple of years ago.
  13. The post in the Revoltech thread is here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=27476&view=findpost&p=898612 And I'm reposting my comments here: Basically, it doesn't really "transform". IIRC the only pieces you need from the robot to form the spaceships are the forearms, shoulder tower things and half of the calves. You've almost got the entire robot left over! Instead of bothering with all that it would have been more interesting to have the Buster Collider weapons, cloak, etc.
  14. Yeah, well, I paid to see John Woo's Mission Impossible. Alas.
  15. Maybe no-one in HG knows Spanish.
  16. Or: "ROCK. Treeeeeeeeee." (And it all comes right back to Brad Bird, eh? )
  17. Dammit EXO!! Look what you've done!! OK, so we got "John Woo's Men in Black", John Lasseter telling people to fu** themselves, and Beefy Totoro. Best thread ever.
  18. Actually... it's from The Onion, where every day is April Fool's anyway. Er, I'm confused too. Was there really an MIB3? I'm being sincere here!
  19. I got it and wrote my thoughts on it ages and ages ago, in the Revoltech thread.
  20. OK, next time I go to one of Mikimoto's exhibitions I'm going to ask him to sign a printout of that pic.

Nice one, you had me going for a while. But actually I did think it was extremely suspect that the 円 kanji went in front of the number instead of after it, which is the normal usage. Apart from that, very, very nice. Now I'm going to go do a search online to see how far this has spread. LOL, here's one. http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=230958 Shame I can't find any Japanese ones.
  22. Thanks for those clips. It really is a shame that Macek passed away, because he was probably the only one involved with HG that knew anything about anime. Now they got nuthin'. Macek was talking about Gold Lightan and Casshern and all these all shows, and if you look at the next video segment he talks fairly at length about Arion. Arion, for God's sake! He asked, but no-one in the audience had heard of it. It shows he really loves anime done well. And it really pissed me off that once he wrapped up his praise for Arion with "It's one of the best animated movies...", the very next thing uttered by an audience member was "Shadow Chronicles, what's happening with that??" Ugh. This is like, the perfect opposite of consumerism. Usually, companies try to get your attention and get you to buy their stuff. In this case, Macek is telling people to see non-HG works, but they don't care. "We'll buy anything you make! Give us more! Give us more!" Can you imagine Steve Jobs praising Windows Vista, while the Apple fanboys go "No! We want iPad 17!" Yeah, well the equivalent is happening with this panel. When asked how Macek would re-make RT: The Untold Story if he ever had the opportunity, he simply said "It would just be DYRL. That's the movie we wanted". (I'm paraphrasing, as I don't remember the exact wording.) Macek gave RT fanboys a chance to experience PROPER entertainment, but they refused. They cannot and will not ever accept anything except Row-boat-heck.
