  1. Sigh. I would quote baronv's signature here, but then that would leave me open to you just turning around and quoting to me his actual post (the one just before yours). Whatever, go criticize a child's cartoon if it makes you feel good about yourself. I'm sure we'll all read it and respect you for it.
  2. Figures that the one recent book I'm remotely interested in is the one that everyone is scalping away like hell now.
  3. Maybe it's like Aquarion. PS Guys, we were all kids once, don't be so hard on this cartoon, if I had kids I might enjoy watching it with them. And that goes for Avatar, TF: Animated, Ben 10, Batman, whatever. I might even be inclined to say to them "here's the 80s version that i used to watch". So much hatred here. Remember, we're not the target audience.
  4. Got my ticket for the May 22nd gig, should be good. Yoshiyuki Furuya will be a guest performer. I doubt I can make it to any of the others, though. Here's a link to one of the new songs: Fukuyama - "Party" Looking at some of the feedback to the new album on amazon, it seems like overall people are enjoying it, but some people are put off by the "rawer" sound compared to his more recent stuff. "OMIGOD I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S ALL ROCK FROM START TO FINISH!!!!11" There're complaints that it just sounds like a live album, which it's close to actually, since it had already been stated that most of the songs were recorded in one take this time, to capture the spontaneous energy. But it's like, "no, we want the overproduced stuff, please". Isn't bloody JAM Project enough for these people?
  5. What the hell? This book JUST came out and already it's sold out everywhere online. Where did you find yours, Sketchley?
  6. Yeah, they're out, I saw one today. But I really want a Hi-metal VF-11.
  7. Yep, this looks interesting, we were talking about this in the "Current Anime" thread very recently. Maybe we should have a "Retro Anime" thread, though.
  8. Don't have a top ten. But I have these on vinyl and they are awesome: L-GAIM VIFAM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQyAzgLRGZM also: VOTOMS
  9. If I recall correctly, the staff of that one went on to make the classic Project A-Ko (no sex, BTW), so that gives you a pretty good viewing agenda right there.
  10. The other day I clicked on this thread and people were suddenly discussing Clint Eastwood directing this movie. I thought I was on another planet. I realized soon enough that I was on a really old page, and I must have just clicked the wrong place, but seeing all these weird posts now I'm wondering if there wasn't some kind of bug at work...
  11. I sure am! EDIT -- I've just had a thought. Personally, I have no interest whatsoever in a Southern Cross manga, but I think they could run it in Macross Ace. "Super Dimension" is now synonymous with Macross, so just for a bit of variety they could include manga adaptations for the other two Choujikuu shows (SC and Orguss) in the magazine. God knows it would be far more interesting than anything like that Macross Plus manga. In fact, I think I'll send that as a suggestion!
  12. No offense, man, but sometimes you remind me of Frasier Crane.
  13. Yeah, I guess you're right. Still, there may be some grandparents or silly people out there who didn't notice, and bought kids PSPgos with UMDs for Christmas or whatever. Jeeesus. And this one apparently occured before the PSN fiasco.
  14. To spend more money?
  15. MP Rodimus to be re-released later this year with fixes to some of its (many) issues. Damn you, Takara, blah blah...
  16. They took away the actual physical UMD drive on the PSP when they brought out the "go" edition, that's pretty much the same thing (actually, it's even worse). Oh, but they added more playable music formats, great, eh Keith???!!!!!11
  17. True. Well, to be sure, no tentacle series is ever going to be any good, but I think whenever people mention "tentacle sex anime", it all started with "Urotsukidoji" and "La Blue Girl", both long-running video series. Knock yourself ou... no, actually, please don't.
  18. OK. So, in the space of three days you went from: To: Yep. I can't really recommend any tentacle sex cartoon that I can guarantee won't have you later complaining that it's disrespectful to women, or teaches geeks to be rapists, etc. The entire online community knows full well how Macross 7 struck a chord with you that has lasted a decade and is still going strong, god knows what unworldly wrath you will unleash on the net for the next 10 years should you ever catch a glimpse of any other cartoon you may find offensive. EDIT -- Just to be sure, I am writing this with sarcasm/humour, but the fear I have of having to bear another decade of Justice AgentONE's human-rights-championing rants is real!
  19. Yeah, I know. That's exactly what it feels like. I was planning to get a PS3 but I usually never buy things at first release, I always tend to wait a bit until they go down in price and/or gain a healthy software catalogue. Yet now that it's cheap, I find that there's no linux, no PS2 compatibility, no nuffin'. Just Bluray. It's a totally different product to what I was planning to buy. Take a look at this (it may have been brought up before). I read this in the paper a few months back: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105767-U-S-Air-Force-Finishes-PS3-Supercomputer-of-Epic-Proportions Even the US military is "hacking" the PS3 to build sophisticated systems while saving Americans a bit of tax money, plus leaving less of a mark on the environment, too. Is Sony gonna come down like a ton of bricks on them, too, because they're not playing according to their rules?? The fact remains that the very thing that makes these consoles attractive to the consumer is their versatility, which is precisely what the almighty manufacturer is reducing bit by bit. I certainly would not have bought a PSP if it could only play Macross Ace Frontier. That was what sealed the deal, but I would not have taken the plunge were it not for the fact that I could play my old SNES/PS1/Gameboy etc. games, read PDF files and watch Youtube on it. Heaven forbid you update the Firmware, though! EDIT -- I'm going to quote the last few lines of that article here, for poignancy's sake: The Condor Cluster might be a modern marvel of cheap supercomputing technology, but the Air Force was troubled by Sony's choice to remove the option to install Linux in a firmware update, making it harder to find replacement systems should a console break. If you've got an unboxed PS3 "Phat" laying around, keep the old firmware on that puppy and the U.S. military might make you an offer someday.

  21. To be fair... we are all spammers by default, just by talking about Robotech. There is really nothing left to say. (I do like this thread though, in the way I like stupid 80s movies.) EDIT -- As for Wikipedia vandalizing, isn't that a bit harsh? If you mean her Japanese-language Robotech entries on Wiki, then I would expect that enough people reading those know about the original Macross series to avoid confusion and so, I don't see any harm in having information on the production/story of RT there. Unless you are referring to something else more serious?
  22. As I said in the thread I made a thread on it ages ago, it's a wonder Redline ever even got made, with production issues for over seven years delaying the release. Now the problem is that "soft" manufacturers (DVD/BR media producers) have long pulled out of the production committee, so who knows when we will ever see a DVD release of it. Well, I'm sure it will happen eventually, but I can tell you it certainly is not on top of anyone's agenda right now (or at least, until a couple of months ago that was the situation, not sure if things have changed since). In fact the only merchandising released from Redline was a 4000 yen book with storyboards and stuff, which I think was from Kadokawa. OK, IGNORE ALL THAT CRAP. I AM AN IDIOT THAT CANNOT KEEP UP TO DATE. Looks like they pulled their act together and I can happily inform you that REDLINE the BluRay and DVD will be arriving on the 10th of Augut 2011! And here's the news you've all (three of you?) been waiting for: English subtitles are included in the Japanese release, for the wean! No CGI, no moe, just kickass 2D 80s OVA style bizarreness. Any complaints? NO.
  23. Wow. Yeah, I'll definitely want to check that out. Cobra would transfer well to live-action, no problem, as long as they keep the humour!! I can't stress this enough. This was something which made Cowboy Bebop and Lupin III work, too. The guy has a gun for an arm, for god's sake -- playing it straight and serious is a huge mistake. We need to see a wise-crackin' Cobra making a cool entrance, then falling on his ass every so often.
  24. Peh. So much for "it only does everything". Now it doesn't do anything.
