This guy needs to be in it. EDIT -- Link here for those who don't know what I'm talking about: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/609-captain-planet

I guess he's not a robotech convention panel pilgrim.

Erm... How does that fact help your cause?

Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie
Renato replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Hmm. That sounds familiar. Well, that's the main reason I'm staying away from Bandai's efforts. The VF100s are fine, but anything on a larger scale just gets floppy real quick. Too bad because I actually kind of like the design, especially with the FAST packs in fighter mode. -
"The user has not made this video available in your country." Wow. Do you have to be in Europe or a former colony to watch this?

Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie
Renato replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I didn't even know it had a Tornado-style turret the first time I watched it, since all the action scenes are so intense. Seriously, you need a Blu-ray/DVD frame-by-frame to see what's in this movie properly. -

Yamato 1/60 VF-17 Nightmare Diamond Force
Renato replied to charger69's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I think after 17 years, enough time has passed for M7 to qualify as "old school". -
This is the situation as far as I know it: Big West is not a distributor, it is the IP owner. Actual distribution of video product (VHS/VHD/LD/DVD etc) was done by Shogakukan in the 1980s and Bandai Visual from the 1990s onward. Toho was the original distributor of the film to cinemas. Tatsunoko was contracted to produce much of the animation: unlike the TV series, they do not and never have had a stake in the ownership of the designs used or anything (the lawsuits during the 2000s were solely about the TV show). I think either Toho or Shogakukan did something back in the 80s to bring Clash etc. over. Are Kiseki still around? They released both DYRL subbed and the Super SpaceFortress Macross dub (as COTB, uncut) in the UK circa 1996. I would be interested to see who they made their contract with.

Yamato 1/60 VF-17 Nightmare Diamond Force

I don't know about you, but I like knowing that it is coming along nicely, even if I can't see it. -
Yeah, I didn't know about this figure, but I would think about getting it if it was either the Part I or II version. The Part III design jut looks bland.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - in theaters June 27, 2014
Renato replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think Taksraven is right that in retrospect we tend to think the first one is the best, and therefore must be good on some level. I rewatched it and Revenge quite recently, and I can say that TF1, with all its faults, does house a fairly entertaining movie within it. If you take away all the nonsensical garbage, you could end up with a good movie. It's just that it's an entire hour too long, at the least. The difference is that with ROTF, you can take away bad stuff forever and you're still left with rubbish. There's no good movie hidden there, no matter how you view it. Maybe one day I will release my 90-minute edition of TF1.- 950 replies

Yamato 1/60 VF-17 Nightmare Diamond Force
Renato replied to charger69's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I don't know but Yamato has always brought out the VF-1S before the VF-1J/A, and they brought out the VF-0S before the A, etc. I'm not sure which one I like better, but I can probably only afford one. -

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Renato replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have the opposite experience! I had "been meaning" to watch Giant Robo for about 15 years, and finally sat down to watch it a few months ago, and I found it boring as hell. I don't remember getting past the first episode. I'm not even sure where I put those DVDs now. It just feels like a chore to sit through. Votoms, on the other hand, was really addictive, I always wanted to see what happened next, so I watched one episode a day. The first few episodes are a little slow, though, admittedly. It does get better, my favourite part of the series is when they are mercenaries in the "Kummen" jungle. -

Transformers: Age of Extinction - in theaters June 27, 2014
Renato replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Again, I'm gonna back away from the all-or-nothing/pick-a-side arguments and say that I agree with the point that upscaled G1 Toys do not work in live-action, but I also think the jagged shards of metal that pass for robots in Bayformers are just not cool. "Cutlery" and "Amerimecha" are interesting terms to describe them. Let's look at Robocop's design. It's iconic, yes? It's fairly simple, yet still high-tech, still sci-fi, and instantly recognizable. I think we just need better designers, or at least, people with better judgement to approve those designs (because I think the designers they do have can do much better, but Bay is all like "MORE FLAMES!!"). Screw it, just hire Kawamori now that he's got Frontier out of his system. I mean just look at this: It may not transform, but the White Glint just looks amazingly cool and would work perfectly in live-action. Bayformer Bumblebee and Optimus just look ugly. Kawamori could probably even come up with cool transformations that would be recreated 100% in toy form, unlike the "make do with this" efforts from Takara (and I'm not dissing the engineers, they do a good job -- it's those designs that are full of CG magic).- 950 replies

Even better, it can arrive the next day! (Nicely spotted, though, I didn't actually notice that in his profile!)

Yep, you can get it here. http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%B4%E3%82%A1%E3%83%AA%E3%82%A2%E3%83%96%E3%83%AB%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%BB%E3%83%9E%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB-VF-1%E3%83%90%E3%83%AB%E3%82%AD%E3%83%AA%E3%83%BC-GA-Graphic%E7%B7%A8%E9%9B%86%E9%83%A8/dp/4797351829/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310288702&sr=8-1 You click once, and a guy will automatically take it DOWN from the warehouse and LOAD it onto a cargo ship for you. Also, it's in this really cool format called "paper", I think, it's really tangible and it's quite difficult to delete by mistake.

Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
Renato replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
No, that was all Miyatake. Although the movie version of the Nousjadeul Ger was designed by guest mecha designer Yutaka Izubuchi, he of subsequent "Patlabor" fame. -
Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
Renato replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hey danth, it surprises me that you didn't know about this. Ohnogi was a main topic of discussion a couple of years ago here when Gubaba had to single-handedly debunk months of lies made up by some Latin-American fan claiming that Ohnogi had screwed up Kawamori's original intentions for Frontier's storyline by overtly favouring Sheryl or something, despite his complete lack of involvement in the show in reality. -
Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
Renato replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hmm. You know, I don't want to be a hater, but some of those episodes are not very good at all IMO... And also IIRC most of them were outsourced to Star Pro to be animated, which may mean that the staff felt they were on the weak side compared to some others. Who knows, though. Edit -- Didn't he also write "Romanesque"? That was a good one. "Broken Heart" was terrible, though. -
Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
Renato replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
This is actually the reason why that article in "Cut" magazine got such a lot of flak. Kawamori did not create "Macross", no one person did, it was at the end of the day a collaborative effort by Studio Nue. Ishiguro was the guy in charge and took responsibility in running the show, but essentially the plan was already set before he stepped in. That sounds fair to me. -
The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
Renato replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I know it's easy to be careless on the internet, and to be honest it's just a movie so I'm not offended that much anyway. I just think it's a little unfair that this is taken so lightly when in the Frontier Movie 2 thread people are threatened with instant bans if they don't spoiler-tag everything, which means I have had to keep my mouth shut about it for over half a year now (the podcast was handled pretty well, though, so thanks to Tochiro for editing that). What I'd like is a little more consideration/equality. I think Japan got ROTF before the US, and I don't remember it being that hard to keep some things under wraps (then again, it was basically the same movie..). Anyway, people have apologized and I of course realize they meant no harm, so I'm not blaming anyone for any malicious intent. It's just that people tend to forget that the internet is international. Edit-- I dunno about any "pissing contest", though. I thought the same thing during the first movie's dogfight over the city, and I'm sure I remember people here saying the same thing! Yeah, a lot of people are saying this. Is this the general concensus? -

Like I'm sure I've said several times, it's not out until the end of July over here, but thanks for the usual America = The World mindset.
