  1. "Robotech basatardized" LOL
  2. We all know Basara likes to argue. Discuss.
  3. I thought they were storage bays on the underside of the fighter which were primarily for the gunpods but could also house the reaction missiles. Notice that after planting that missile, Max transforms into battroid and equips a single gunpod to shoot the baddies -- presumably because he had nowhere to stow a second one. Then he runs out of ammo, though. The shape being "wrong" never bothered me because there is so much magic going on with the proportions of the 21/22 anyway, by the time I noticed the gun storage feature I had written off any semblance of logic applied to the design. Notice Yamato didn't even bother with any of that in their toys.
  4. Oh my god, look at this custom. With a little bit of work, the Bandai one makes for one awesome battroid: http://gbmshop.blogspot.com/2011/11/vf-17s-bandai.html
  5. WAIT WAIT WAIT HOLD EVERYTHING.... What on EARTH is that pamphlet that the guy on my left picks up and flips through in the video from 5:28 - 5:38?? MUST HAVE IT aargh
  6. He does. See? Illogical.
  7. Actually, no, there weren't. There was a copy of the mag that had the red ABS test shot in it (Dengeki Hobby?), and people were using that for reference. You could see the infamous "Mister K" at the back there with his white gloves and he was also showing everyone how to transform it properly. I cannot answer questions about how sturdy any of the parts are because I did not transform it properly, but I can give you my impressions, and tell you that it is a very solid, very well-built toy. It feels a lot like the VF-11, but with added heft and a few more gimmicks. Many joints appeared to be die-cast.
  8. I've had the Blu-ray for about a month now, I think. I still haven't had the time to sit down and watch it at home on the big TV, I only checked out a couple of scenes on the PC, and the extra content. And I won't be able to for a long while now, because (supposedly) the 30th will be the arrival date of the Fukuyama mega DVD box set, so you can bet I will be powering through those every chance I get for perhaps the rest of the year . Oh well. (Of course, my favourite scene is Ranka's concert, so I did watch that part a couple of times and it looks great)
  9. False For the record, each and every one of the things I have listed in my signature were straight-out-of-the-box defects. Actually the 1/72 VF-11 just had stress marks and broke later, but EVERYBODY's broke, until the version 2 fixed it. I get a broken/defective toy brand new in the box pretty every time so I haven't bought much recently. (Except the SOC Tetsujin vs. Black Ox set -- Black Ox's leg was broken from the inside) Just as well 'cause these things ain't cheap. If I didn't live in Japan and have access to the customer service, I seriously wouldn't buy anything at all.
  10. More pics and stuff here: www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35967&pid=942727&st=0entry942727
  11. Wow. Have you shown this to her?
  12. (Man)handling the VF-17S
  13. HDP.OK, "transformation" (kind of) video for the VF-17S is up.
  14. LOL, no-one's ever gotten that far
  15. Apples and Oranges... I wouldn't know where to begin to compare them. Plus I would be biased because I know the VF-19 inside out now, so comparing months of experience with 10 minutes handling the VF-17 would not be fair at all. I mean, I know some people could describe that, but I personally wouldn't be able to. I can tell you what it feels *like*. It feels very much like the VF-11, in terms of texture and the way that parts fit and move. However, it felt much heavier. Not quite as heavy as the 19, though. I can't really say better or worse than the 19, though.
  16. Yes he does... he ain't a logical guy. You betcha. There is one. Hirosawa-san just didn't bring it with him that day. I think I posted photos of his Lego Garlands a while back.
  17. More. Hirosawa-san's legos are incredible. I posted pics of them in the Toy section's Lego thread but nobody seemed to care... EMERALD FORCE. This toy is BEAUTIFUL. And what's more -- it's fun. I have the Kai, so I know what to expect, but even though it just feels so RIGHT in your hands. Plus the shade of blue is gorgeous in real life. The reason I took so many photos of it is because we were messing around with the white balance to somehow get the colour close to what it looks like with the naked eye, but still, we couldn't manage. It really is as close to perfection as you're gonna get in a valkyrie. DIAMOND FORCE. This toy... personally, not so beautiful. But it is much heavier than it looks. Plus it feels good in the hands. I think they did a good job, and it seems sturdy enough. The Gamlin sculpt is really well done. I ended up taking this bad boy home with me.
  18. Yeah, this will probably get moved to the toys section. Anyway, here's some STUFF. There is video, but there are problems with the upload... here's the first batch of pics.
  19. The SCOOP thread in the Toys section disappeared, so I will put this here. Kawamori's Dualis is FINALLY getting released as a figure. http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B005SP6J5C/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_dp_7erXob12C760B Though with "Rinne no Lagrange" coming up very soon, who's gonna care about this thing now, that's my question.
  20. Shield falls off all the time on mine. I thought about putting nail varnish on the peg but never got round to it.
  21. Exactly. With all the games and other junk that had come out prior to M7/Plus, they obviously agreed that it was time to set some things in stone in order to make the new stories more coherent with each other. Unfortunately, the content of each show differs stylistically so drastically that you have people on MW still trying to sort out the mess 20 years after the fact. The Macross timeline appears on single or double pages almost everywhere in the late 90s print material, and the compendium no doubt took it from these. Essentially, i believe they needed DYRL to "go" somewhere, without demoting it to "some other universe" like MacII, so it was a movie-within-a-movie.
  22. No, "You're in charge of my heart!" is way, way off.
  23. No, I think Kawamori wanted it specifically that way. As for it being "our" DYRL or not, the Mac Plus extra definitely described it as being the same as what we know as DYRL, but the "clips" seen in M7 are different, with space battles between Max and Millia. I don't know, I figured that they just didn't want to reuse the DYRL footage and decided that since they were going to reanimate stuff anyway, they might as well change the setting a little. I believe that in essence it's supposed to be the same movie.
  24. Volume 1 of Macross Plus featured an extra called "Macross: A Future Chronicle" giving the basic rundown of the timeline until Plus and 7. It said specifically that DYRL was a movie made in 2030-something. It is assumed this is what Miho and Sally were talking about in episode 1 of Mac7 (though how many kids watching got the reference is uncertain...). The whole "MacII is set in a parallel universe" thing is cemented here, too. As for the "DYRL visuals with TV story is canon"... well, the jury's still out on that one.
