That's what the fansubs say, but as Gubaba points out, it doesn't really sound like that, and i agree. I thought it sounds like Meriken Burger, which is something that plays a large role in the Arjuna TV series, since according to Kawamori BURGERS AND TECHNOLOGY ARE EVILLL The weird thing is that Meriken Burger of course comes from Meriken Park, a waterfront area in Kobe where most of Arjuna is set.... So, how does Edgar know about that? I guess he was watching Arjuna along with the rest of the kids in the hut and thought that the burger looked good enough to eat (even though the show actually says IT IS EEEVIIILLLLLL) You've already done that!

I actually thought that the Macross 7 Blu-ray would come first. I know there were issues with this particular release because they were supposed to have a Mikimoto cover art, but it still wasn't finished (as of last month)... Still, I'm sure they will put it up eventually, like they showed placeholders for the box set of the Sayonara no Tsubasa movie way after the announcement because Tenjin didn't have time to breathe. No love for M7

Actually, Big West sets the price, Bandai Visual has to agree with everything they say....

as for what edgar says in his sleep... meriken burger, maybe? another arjuna reference.

NO. Don't make me buy another game system.

We talked at length about Hase's suicide here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=21675&view=findpost&p=596977 I also scanned an article about it.

Downed and loaded. I'm about a third of the way through still. I like the backgrounds and stuff on MZero, but I dunno, this is one of those things that I really don't feel like watching again for a looong time. Listening to this kind of kills two birds with one stone.

Yeah, in a nutshell, you're right. BigWest is part of an antiquated method of doing business in the anime industry where creators (Studio Nue, in the case of Macross) used to go to different agencies to sell their projects and get their material on the air. Nowadays there is the "production committee system" where creators team up with manufacturers, broadcasters and publishers etc, to get a cross-media IP up and running. Both HG and BW have a stranglehold on their respective franchises. The main difference is that HG tries to handle the creative stuff in-house, whereas they should really contract actual professional creative teams to plan their works, and then contract animation houses, etc. They skip the middle and most important part, and go straight from writing their own fanfics to getting them cheaply animated.

Oh, is that the English title of Tachiguishiretsuden? Goddamn piece of crap movie, most boring waste of time in my whole life. I have an interview with Kawamori and Oshii talking about that, maybe I should dig that up. I'm betting he did that for free. Anyway, VF4 yay

Holy crap, you're right. Wow... Kawamori drew a new head just for them. Mind BLOWN. Again. Right, I actually meant that as a really unlikely scenario.... Maybe it wasn't so expensive to hire the Hory Froating Head after all.

Those look to beautiful to post only in tiny resolutions... Bigger, please sir!

I'm no expert, but if SHE could afford to pay the BW license fees AND hire Kawamori to draw a new head, they wouldn't have been releasing resin kits and would have mass-produced some full-on toys. As I understand it, Studio Half-Eye is really only one guy... Maybe two. I doubt Kawamori had any contract with SHE, it just seems really unlikely.... but who knows.

It's odd that BigWest would approve of such an obvious deviation, though.

Sorry to hear that. From what I read of your posts, you were quite frustrated with the company. I guess the 1D, Ostrich and Elint are vaporware?

Ah, but see, who first produced the "cut" edition? The Toho dub UNCUT was released in the UK by Kiseki as "Clash of the Bionoids" (even though the title of the movie is clearly "SUPER SPACEFORTRESS MACROSS" [sic]). I'm not sure, but I believe those cuts were made stateside by either Celebrity or Peregrine. Meanwhile, the subbed edition that Kiseki put out was identical to Emotion's domestic "Perfect Edition" release from 1992 (?) with the Flasback 2012 concert at the end. However, the copyright still says 1994 Toho International. AAARRGH I remember watching that. However, I don't remember if they had the English credits from the Toho dub or if they had the 2012 footage at the end.... Damn, I'm getting old. All this info is getting lost in the ages. Do you still have contact with that gentleman?

Thanks for the clarification, Tom. This is the LD cover. http://www.macrosswo...rossldfront.jpg If I remember correctly, the VHS cover has the three characters on a white background. Found the VHS cover: Edit -- I spy "Produced by and Copyright Bigwest"; "Sold by Victor Music". Toho is nowhere to be found... This leans towards more credibility in the claim that Toho had the international distribution rights, while Victor and/or Shogakukan had domestic one. At least until BandaiVisual/Emotion took over from Victor/Shogakukan at some point (1992, with the release of the "Perfect Edition", perhaps?).

Sorry if this has been posted before (I seem to start a lot of posts with that recently).. Trawling through the Culture Graveyard that is the internet for info about certain old cartoons, I found this: http://s238.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/letsanime/?action=view¤t=macross.jpg The blurb seemed really similar to something I remember from the mid-nineties: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/video/kiseki_clashb.jpg Here's the source, btw: http://letsanime.blogspot.com/2008/03/dyna-cool-frank.html It's a page out of a solicitation booklet for Peregrine Films, apparent license holders of a ton of old classic stuff back in the day. Arcadia of My Youth, Locke the Superman, they're all there. And like the blog describes, it seems that they put minimal effort on their part and mostly market already-produced "International Versions" of the movies. Anyway, I interpret this non-coincidence of the text to mean that Toho provided it themselves on their own catalogue (which must exist somewhere) and it was recycled by both Peregrine and Kiseki when they (supposedly) purchased their respective rights. The word "Bionoid" in "Clash of the Bionoids" actually appears in the original trailer for DYRL (though not in the actual movie), so I think Toho provided this stock blurb for the international market in the same way that TMS does business by attending international contents licensing fairs and distributing thick books of their back-catalogue with English summaries. Since Celebrity released Clash in the US, how does the "Celebrity" label relate to Peregrine Films, if at all? Did they acquire the distribution rights from Peregrine? This does not really directly relate to Robotech per se, but it gives us a hint at what was going on in the 80s and 90s in terms of licensing...
