Macross Digital Mission VF-X Official Program
Renato replied to VF5SS's topic in Movies and TV Series
The PSP games are basically every 3D Macross shooter put together, and much, MUCH more, and much, MUCH better. Macross Ultimate Frontier and Macross Triangle Frontier ARE "something like this being made again". Don't take my word for it -- Check them out yourself. -
It's garbage. See the Macross Ace thread.

Evangelion didn't make me groan, it made me scream in frustration. What I hated about Gunbuster was whiny crybaby Noriko, but at least she was sort of cute with somewhat of a drive, yet whiny crybaby Shinji just made me want to go up to him and blast Planet Dance in his face. I much prefer a protagonist like Basara who doesn't give a crap and does what he likes to a stupid kid who just mopes around and mumbles about how he's useless. Amuro, Noriko, Shinji, all the way up to that prat from Guilty Crown airing right now, why do people love kids with no self-esteem?? I know you guys are currently discussing mouths on mecha, so I hate to bring it back to the characters (even though it's the title of the thread) but I *personally* think Basara is a better role model if only for the fact that he encourages being active -- whether succeeding or failing, or even being right or wrong -- rather than being introverted and passive.

I was looking for that parody "MPC version 2" thread but instead found this: "Yamato/Toynami Japan Team Up" http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/mwfarchive/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=8;t=7045;hl=mpc+version+2 And this: "The Sad State of Affairs: An Open Letter to MW Members" http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/mwfarchive/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=4614;hl=mpc+version+2 It's funny how Toynami really used to be the legitimate alternative in the minds of some collectors back then, and look at the situation now. Yamato has now made almost every valk in the Macross universe, all the while being in a league of their own -- even proving their mettle against heavy-hitters like Bandai.

I don't know the whole story, but I know for a fact that Hidetaka Tenjin is the owner of the classic VF-1J Armored Valkyrie picture. I seem to recall him mentioning that it was a gift from Takani himself, but I'm not sure now... In any case, he is extremely proud to own that piece, since he said that it was the picture that inspired him to be an artist in the first place. When he was a kid he would just stare at the package for hours on end -- I suppose much like you, Shawn, and many of us here, too!

Very good. Now let's see you transform. OH WAIT...

I think it's time for V2 1/60 YF-21 and V2 1/60 VF-22S
Renato replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
Again, watch the movie. The whole scene is much better depicted. You WILL notice it this time. -

I'm wondering if it might be interesting to re-visit and share some of the old topics from the archived boards from last decade just to see what kind of content we were discussing at the time. Feel free to post any of your own "re-discoveries"! I was browsing and found this little gem: http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/mwfarchive/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=8;t=6985;view=old Yes, it's everyone's favourite toy, the PVC Banpresto VF-1! It's so funny to re-read this in hindsight. Look hard enough and you will find people's first reactions to the 1/48, others anticipating the 1/55 Max & Millia reissues, and more, so please post anything you think other members might enjoy, or maybe cringe at the thought of "My god, did I really think that?? How could I have been so naive?!"

Oh yeah, it hadn't occurred to me, but The Ride content would be cool. And I'm all for an original story. I enjoyed VF-X2 at the time.

Thank you. That's exactly my point. I watch Youtube on my PSP, and I am not willing to give that ability up by doing some pointless Firmware update.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Renato replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
"Rinne no Lagrange" is good -- at least I think so. And I seem to have a reputation for being a kind of Anime Scrooge or something. -

Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
Renato replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
Is that from "The Adventures of Lil' Valk", that old webcomic that a member here used to draw, but stopped because of the pressure or something? -
OK, well I want to make a comment on the Takani Auctions post on the main page, but I don't want to start a whole new topic for it. I don't believe every single news item should have its own topic, and that's why this thread cannot work like the News thread in the Toys section... which is gone now for some reason! I'm sorry, I just don't get it. Anyway, back to mini-news (again, not worth putting a whole post on the main page, but I'm sure Tochiro will upload a write-up), a reminder that Mylene Night is tonight in Shibuya. Check out the entry on the venue site: http://www.womb.co.jp/#!/live/2012/02/02/mylene-night02.html There's English on it -- but according to the description, Yoshiki Fukuyama is apparently just some guy "who sings one of the ending theme songs"?? The Japanese doesn't say that...
-
Since each news item is now getting its own post on the front page and thus easily accessible, shall we make this the news discussion thread now?
-
Excellent work!

Firmware updates generally put more restrictions on your machine than unlocking.

"Rinne no LAGRANGE": Coming in Jan 2012.
Renato replied to Renato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I had the opportunity to write this the other day: http://japancinema.net/2012/01/30/behind-the-screen-rinne-no-lagrange/ Please have a read if you are interested in the production background. -
Why do they wait so long to release a Macross Series?
Renato replied to leading edge's topic in Movies and TV Series
Heh, maybe I just picked up on it!
