Is it time to bring out the "TRANSFORMING ROBOT PLANES IN SPACE/GIANT HUMANOID ALIENS" card..? -
When Was the Song "DYRL?" First Sung (In-World)?
Renato replied to BEAST's topic in Movies and TV Series
It's not only in writing (see the Macross Chronicle for the latest update to the official continuity), it is referenced as being a movie in the actual anime, at least in Macross 7. -
Yep, that's what it sounded like to me.

Holy sh*t, 5 out of 200? That's insane.

They decide what goes into the product but at the end of the day, they have to get BW's approval for everything from content to pricing. EDIT -- stupid grammar.
-
Yep. She's the one who has the final say over pretty much every aspect of the franchise. There's a guy on AmazonJP who gives every DVD a low score because they don't have Japanese subs and his uncle or something is hard of hearing.

Part Two is UP! http://www.macrosswo...p-kit-part-two/

But Keith, people need subs! How else are they going to understand such a complex 30-year old show about robots and singing?

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Renato replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Who say what now? I have the FansProject DIA Commander, and I love it. That's the only 3rd party thing I own, but I have friends who have the enormous Devastator and the FP Bruticus and they are amazing pieces. I want to eventually get the Perfect Effect Reflector but I'm still saving up... It's a lot of cash for such a tiny thing.- 9146 replies

Oh. I thought they were actual real, visible photos of the items. Too early for me to have any opinion on those.. Thanks anyway, though.- 9146 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Renato replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I agree: While I'm not the biggest fan of Transformers, I have never understood why there are often three threads about Mospeada in this forum which is a tiny show everyone has forgotten about, and yet there is only one (until-recently "pinned") TF thread which somehow has to include an extremely broad range of discussion based on a wealth of news regarding toys/figures/comics/TVshows which increases every DAY. I think we need one -- there is not necessarily a huge overlap between the people who like the official items and those who are interested in 3rd-party stuff: myself being one example. So, wanna share? As for Ginrai -- I like the robot mode, but... What is up with that truck mode? Robot in bad disguise.- 9146 replies

Good point -- let's lobby to get it all criminalized!

Again, to me these all just sound like reasons NOT to make those things. People, you have your AKB0048 anime, please be content with that...
-
Oh dear God, I had totally forgotten about all those scenes. Yeah, please don't make a VF-X2 anime, Kawamori, thank you in advance.

Wrong place. "Wanted" forum is over here, dude: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showforum=10

Because it was rushed and broadcast unfinished. It was never seen again through all of the reruns and home video releases apart from the HD Remaster DVDs from 2007. Check out the interview with Producer Hiroshi Iwata here to learn more about the make-or-break nightmare drama of "First Contact": http://www.macrossworld.com/1149/1983-interview-with-hiroshi-iwata/

The Channel Four News anchorman? He was my favourite!

"You dip the way you wanna dip... I'll dip the way I WANNA DIP." [gets choked]

Holy Jesus. I bought the magazine, but I never bothered to even look at the Macross Plus pages. Oh my GOD. That... Ugh.

Kawamori's pet AKB project-first footage!
Renato replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, that is the opinion of many. But think about it -- that is totally unrealistic, it's like asking Hideaki Anno to go back to working as a keyframe artist (because in my opinion, he's the best at that, bar none) instead of directing, or even telling Picasso to go back to still life and portraits instead of this "Cubism" weirdo thing he randomly made up while high. At the end of the day, he's also not going to go back to a smaller paycheque. His shows are what they are. I don't really like them, for the most part, but they do give a window into his artistic and philosophical sensibilities. That said, I'm not going to watch this particular one. -
That opinion is pretty widely held among anime fans in their 30s and 40s here in Japan to the extent that I have heard after talking to people for years, and the very Amazon reviews that we are discussing I would say are a fairly good cross-section of that: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E8%B6%85%E6%99%82%E7%A9%BA%E8%A6%81%E5%A1%9E%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B9-Blu-ray-Complete-Edition-%E5%88%9D%E5%9B%9E%E9%99%90%E5%AE%9A%E7%94%9F%E7%94%A3/dp/B006QRCBG2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1337583624&sr=8-4 Most of these are fans that genuinely like the show. This discussion here is quite interesting, too: http://www.amazon.co.jp/review/R35H67ECDQ1CY7/ref=cm_cr_dp_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B006QRCBG2&linkCode=&nodeID=561958&tag=#wasThisHelpful You might need a translator, but basically the main guy is saying that the price is too expensive for such an old show if you compare it to modern anime -- and yet, as one respondent points out, that is STILL giving this set the benefit of the doubt, simply because SDF Macross was not made using the more modern business model of the production committee, where the main aim is to make money off the property through sales of video packages -- that is, VHS, LD, DVD, BR ,etc. SDF Mac came before all of that. The show was designed with most of the money to come from toys and models, and we all know they cleaned up big time with that, and STILL do (thanks to Yamato et al). What this means is that there ought not be any incentive for BV/BW to charge this much since they have all long recouped their investments. My guess is that most of this money is probably going towards those crazy 1/1 valks and musical events that they have planned. At the end of the day, people have two main problems -- the price for what you get (many wanted DYRL and FB2012 included, some don't even care about the Pachinko stuff) and that the very idea of putting this show on BluRay is considered dubious in the first place.
-
Because of the high price, and the widely-held opinion that very few moments in the series actually warrant a Blu-Ray transfer in the first place. For example, are Sadako Minmay's empty black demon-eyes suddenly beautiful gems in HD? Or the "YF-1R"? Or the human-sized "OMG IT'S POWER ARMOUR!!" Destroids?

It's the storyboard book that's missing a page, though, not the design book. By the way, it's missing a couple of more pages because there are a few more scenes that are storyboarded that did not make it into the film, namely Max and Millia's wedding. That's not in the book. Bandai Visual were apologetic that due to some printing glitch they left a page blank, but at the end of the day the book is still incomplete as far as storyboards for the movie are concerned. Oh, and the Design book is missing the VE-1 lineart, believe, correct me if I'm wrong.
