At the moment, he hasn't been given the opportunity to design his own things, though. On a related note: http://www.macrossworld.com/2198/im-like-a-backlash-against-kawamori-san-and-mikimoto-san-hidetaka-tenjin-interview-from-macross-the-first-volume-1/

Well, to be fair, from what I hear there was a big fiasco surrounding the First Edition Prime toys, and apparently distribution really sucks, plus there's also the magic word, "scalpers"...- 9146 replies

Ooh, Macross Facebook Seven! Cool!

I know how you feel, but there's something to be said for "keeping them wanting more". Look at the YF-29 reissue. It can almost be seen as manipulating demand. "Buy now or you might not ever get a chance!" 6 months later: "Haha, gotcha! Still want it?? Buy now or you may never get another chance!!"
-
No, it's not. What I mean is that it was a conscious business decision to exclude the 0D out of the line, the same as it was for the two-seater valks in the 1/48 line. Namely, they most likely saw no way that they could ever recoup the necessary tooling costs. The v2 1/60 VE-1 and VT-1 were only released because the new line had been designed with two-seaters in mind with minimal changes -- specifically, the introduction of the swappable nosecones. Add to that the fact that they were considerably higher-priced than regular FP 1/60 v2 vf-1 valks. The answer is to make a v2 version of the Zero line, from scratch. But Zero is not SDF Macross. It just doesn't have the same following, and thus there is less chance that people are going to want to double-dip. Bandai BARELY managed to succeed with their v2 Chogokins, they had to play a ridiculous game of "ultra-limited production, yo, get 'em while you can!" in order to maximize their sales. No way that sort of demand can be created for Zero again, unless they release a movie edition of the anime nationwide and everyone loves it as if it was directed by Hayao Miyazaki and feel they must have these robot toys. Heh, well, maybe that's a bit extreme. But still... I dunno....

Heh. I think it probably did help in one way...

Great... Now I have visions of Mari rocking out to "The Ace of Spades".

Firebomber Concert in November, Tokyo and Osaka.

I didn't really like that one that much. I thought the Electric Fire gig was much better (from 2007, I think?), and that one got a great 2-disc DVD release, too. -

When Was the Song "DYRL?" First Sung (In-World)?
Renato replied to BEAST's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeah. 'Cos technically, you're "Guvava". But please let's not stray down that road lest we never find our way back! My main point, to go back pretty much a whole page, is that the Compendium is not "solid", by any means, and that is not a knock on Egan, he's just one guy and there is a limit to what just one guy can do. Now that it's gone wiki it's up to everyone to fill in the blanks and correct the oddities. We're all a lot more knowledgeable than we were back in 1995. -
When Was the Song "DYRL?" First Sung (In-World)?
Renato replied to BEAST's topic in Movies and TV Series
I am not stating as fact that they were the same -- if I were, then I would have the burden of proof. But nor do I have any concrete reason to believe that they were not. All I'm saying, is that the differences that were listed by the Compendium were ones which I or anyone could have made from observation through the act of watching the show -- the only debate here is whether or not the footage shown is actually supposed to be from the in-universe version of DYRL, something which is not specified in the show. Do you see? Exactly. We meet on occasion, but this isn't the sort of thing that we really talk about. -
When Was the Song "DYRL?" First Sung (In-World)?
Renato replied to BEAST's topic in Movies and TV Series
No, very little of the old site did provide references. Similarly, I look at the Macross Chronicle with equal weariness. Oh, and by the way, here's a link to an archive scan of the liner notes to volume 3 of M7 on LD (where "Minmay Video" can be found), and there is no specific mention that "the in-universe version is different to the real-world version". So TRY AGAIN, TRY AGAIN ♪ http://www.otakubell.com/LDs/index.php?/category/275 -
LOL, never noticed that!

When Was the Song "DYRL?" First Sung (In-World)?
Renato replied to BEAST's topic in Movies and TV Series
As much as I like Egan Loo personally, very little of the material in there has citations, and this entry in particular is more of an observation. I watched the "Minmay Video" episode and unless I'm totally misremembering they don't ever say outright that the visuals we are seeing of Max and Millia fighting in space etc. actually come from the DYRL movie, maybe they come from something else, or maybe it's all new footage created for the Space War I dramatization/documentary that they were producing in that episode. The idea that "the in-universe movie is different to the DYRL that we know" just strikes me as one of those things that have become accepted through fan discussions but may just be fallacies. -
Oh, but he will learn... Do the words "Arise, Rodimus Prime" mean anything to you?

OK, let's get this clear -- at this point, they are all effectively limited releases.

I have doubts it is that high. Those numbers seem right in terms of the older releases like the 1/48s or whatever, but the VF-19s and the VF-17s... I can't believe they would make so many. Yeah, maybe I'm wrong, though! Thanks for the info and the video. It's funny, but I can imagine many of these 3rd Party stuff having higher production runs than Bandai Valks, for example. After all, there are a lot more Transformer fans around the world than Macross fans, so there is most likely much higher demand.- 9146 replies

Those aren't the books, though, they are the actual illustration prints that went into the book. The books themselves are much, much cheaper.
-
Yeah, they're still mulling it over. It's the same with the VF-19P. People are like "But they showed it so they are obviously making it!!" Yeah, like I say time and again, it's just not that simple.

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Renato replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, they are getting more and more complex, and the companies are increasing in number. I would say a lot of the profit is being reinvested, and I'm guessing many of these companies are run by the same people. I don't think it's as much as "several thousand". I would say one thousand for Hercules is about right, or if anything, the maximum. This would also compare to average Yamato valkyrie runs these days. Again, this is just my guess, though.- 9146 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Renato replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have two answers: 1) In a nutshell, Hasbro have to meet strict child safety laws, thus stifling a lot of the design elements, while these 3rd parties do not, so they have free reign over materials and design/engineering choices. 2) I don't know, but they're more or less in the same price range as the Chogokin/Valkyrie/Hot Toys figures for hardcore collectors, so those are the types of people that are being naturally targeted. Like I said earlier, there is not necessarily a great deal of crossover between the typical Transformer fans who buy every $10 Bumblebee at Walmart and high-grade toy enthusiasts who forgo smaller purchases to save up for one piece they really want every few months or so.- 9146 replies

I heard that the SDF Series Bluray was NOT region-locked at all... That *may* indicate that they might forgo locking for the movie, too. Thank god I actually own the physical discs of the PS1 game and thus don't have to bother with no PS Network BS.
