am I an a-hole for telling someone they bought something fake?

Other than the fact that it is a popular item at Play-asia, what does that prove in terms of the bigger picture, i.e., the portion of consumers of the product who happen to be based outside Japan? Without specific numbers, this is all meaningless. As for amiami, it is not an importing site -- it operates within Japan (unlike Play-asia which is based in Hong Kong) and ships to foreign countries AS WELL as functioning for the Japanese consumers, and thus those games topping its sales chart says nothing at all about who is buying them, unless there is specific data saying "XX% of orders are coming from overseas". If there is conclusive evidence that import users make up a substantially significant share of the whole, I would like to see it.

The Wolverine FILMS (X-Men Universe)
Renato replied to antibiotictab's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I lived in Kyoto for five years... Before that, Osaka for one year. Yeah, Osaka really didn't ever do that much for me. Although I did make a documentary about Nipponbashi several years back, I guess I should put that on Youtube. Anyway, yes, Wolvie, rowr, snickt, canuckle-head, bub. -

It appears to be a follow up to the SDF Macross book in the same series. http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E8%B6%85%E6%99%82%E7%A9%BA%E8%A6%81%E5%A1%9E%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B9-DENGEKI-HOBBY-BOOKS%E2%80%95%E9%9B%BB%E6%92%83%E3%83%87%E3%83%BC%E3%82%BF%E3%82%B3%E3%83%AC%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%B3-%E9%9B%BB%E6%92%83%E3%83%9B%E3%83%93%E3%83%BC%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AC%E3%82%B8%E3%83%B3%E7%B7%A8%E9%9B%86%E9%83%A8/dp/404886601X/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_1 I have not seen the content of either book, but they appear to be more modern sourcebooks to the classic shows with the usual lineart and designs -- it remains to be seen how much new content they contain. I'm guessing a few interviews, etc.

Damn... That sucks. There were still a few audio files I needed to grab, like a couple of the M7 cassette tapes and the CD Cinema stuff.

I got it a couple of days ago and feel the same. It's certainly fun to mess around with, but a lot of the paint is quite half-assed and the plastic tires, lack of opening doors, overall fit and finish just doesn't say "Masterpiece" to me. I'm glad I got it for substantially less than the RRP. At full price, I would feel ripped off. Oh, and I got the Amazon chrome pile drivers, which are nicer than the black stubby ones, but still sort of pointless.- 16711 replies

Well, Tochiro put up a link to their online feature earlier in the thread, and we've had low-quality scans for a few days, so not "no one"... I have to say, I'm really liking the look of this Planet Ouroboros. I love the floating islands thing, and it just looks extremely "alien world"-like, in the classical SF sense, what with ringed planets in the skies and such.

More Artdink!? Wow! But only Frontier...? Boo. I guess these are all the ones that are out as toys. Oh well.

I'm sure it'll be the same play system as the PSP games, with the sound energy and everything. If you don't know what I mean, search through some of the PSP threads: Macross Ace Frontier, Ultimate Frontier, etc... Why? What?

Transformers: Age of Extinction - in theaters June 27, 2014
Renato replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's interesting that they made a conscious decision not to go down the road of marketing the music as stand-alone releases, competing with mainstream real-life acts. One wonders how well they would have done -- I would have predicted quite a sensation. Funny how almost the exact opposite was Big West's strategy for Macross 7: Victor made a killing with marketing the hell out of the music, while Bandai wallowed in uncertainty with the mere couple of toys they brought out. Thank god for Yamato, although it's 17 years after the fact now. You mean "Walkman", right?? I shudder at the ubiquity of the word "iPod"... Again, Yamato really should have put an MP3 player or real speakers or SOMETHING into their Fire Valk toy... Oh yeah, forgot this thread was about Transformers 4. Sigh. I guess I have nothing to say, then...- 950 replies

Transformers: Age of Extinction - in theaters June 27, 2014
Renato replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No, I can't imagine it was ever that big in the UK. Ulysses 31, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, MASK, Inspector Gadget, My Little Pony, and of course, Danger Mouse, Victor & Hugo and Count Duckula seem to have left far more of an impression there. I could be wrong, though. Growing up in Peru, it only barely registered with me as that thing that was on before Transformers. None of my friends really ever talked about it or anything. I feel nostalgic for it in that respect, and all things considered I don't think the music is so bad.- 950 replies

There is a tiny bit of love for Southern Cross in the current issue of EX Taishuu, if anyone is interested. They have a feature where they break down a lot of the popular 70s and 80s mecha and assign how much it would cost in reality to develop and build them. I don't remember how much they said the SC armour would cost. http://www.amazon.co.jp/EX-%E3%82%A4%E3%83%BC%E3%82%A8%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9-%E5%A4%A7%E8%A1%86-2012%E5%B9%B4-11%E6%9C%88%E5%8F%B7/dp/B009DJGMII/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1351229576&sr=8-2

I say new story is great, go for it. I'd love to see new adventures with old characters. I'm fine with the PSP games and the Hybrid Pack games for just recreating the shows. I'm ready for new stuff.

Admiral Perry was in Macross Frontier? Huh?? It's mostly a military thing. You see it used in many institutions as well. Usually for subordinates or pupils, be they male or female. In everyday conversation kun is only really a suffix for boys and quite young men, though.

You were hoping... so what convinced you it wasn't the fault of the bad scans? You can't even make out any of the text. I think people are being a bit harsh on the graphics before even being able to see them.[ Anyway, Artdink confirmed, and that's all I need to know. Also, February 2013 release, according to certain sources. And just what is that silhouette in the logo? YF-24? edit - Argh, got ninjitsu'd by VF5SS...

I did a search for Animefriend in the old ("legacy") MW forums, and the fallacy certainly runs deep. It's so incredible how much of an urban legend type of phenomenon this thing has become. It's like it's alive, and feeding off itself. For example, there was an insane conversation about how Tatsunoko was the main provider of funds for the SDF production, and when Studio Nue's workload would get too tough they would ship it off to Animefriend in Korea. I have no idea how all that could evolve from just pure speculation. Studio Nue is not an animation studio; primary funding would have come from Takatoku; and Animefriend is not in Korea. Man... I saw that Lebhead and Skullone, as cool as those guys were, were pretty adamant about those points...

I translated it on this site about ten years ago. It was in one of the freebie extra booklet/pamphlets from Animage. I can't remember which one, and when I went back to the UK I couldn't find any of my old stuff... Although it should all be in storage. Sigh. Anyway, something tells me it could be this one: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/magazines/animage_0383collf.jpg It may be worth asking jvmacross or boinger or some other die-hard collector here for clarification...
