I just did a bit of extra quick research and those are actually last week's figures. Therefore it sold over ten thousand upon release and then in the second week just over 4,000 copies. Funny thing is that it still managed to beat Shibasaki Kou that week even though Shibasaki is very mainstream, gets lots more attention than Macross and her single was a new entry that week.

The single dropped 21 places to #27 on the charts this week. (Skip to the 1min mark) Wow, look at those sales figures. Hmm.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of when I read this article. Michael Bay mentioned a "Keiji" in the TF DVD commentary. He obviously forgot his surname. It was also interesting that he described Yamaguchi-san as being angry after seeing the initial Optimus Prime designs, saying that "this is not Optimus Prime, this is an insult to the Japanese people". But who knows what really happened -- I don't believe a word that comes out of Bay's mouth...

Perhaps a 2-year-old can, but a 52-year-old cannot. "Oh my, it's a robot. Goodness!"

Wow. Also, apparently that "robot" is from Battletech. I guess we all learn something new everyday, huh.

It's the only one out of all of those that got any notice in the mainstream media, though.

This is incredible. You guys should get together with ron5864 and make a whole diorama of it crashing into the city -- http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?app=galleryâ„‘=6830 Oh wait, that was 1/60...

I started a wonderfully-ignored thread about it over a week ago. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=37677

I watched this a few weeks ago, and it is incredible. No CG, it's all composite using various tokusatsu techniques. If they release this on DVD then it has to feature the "making of" recordings which they also showed at the museum, because that is the only way you can really appreciate the innovation that went into its production.

I just got the Blu-ray set. I'm slowly working my way through the series. I just watched "Bye bye Mars" last night. That was the episode that Iwata and Ishiguro left on the train on the way from Tatsunoko.

Kawamori is "supervising" the production, the story itself is by Kodachi.

I'm glad that someone else noticed this. In the podcast, when I mentioned her voice was different in the movies I was told that it was because she had "aged". Well, I think it's more that with experience and training, she has learned that this is what "anime voice" sounds like, and this is the way it should be done. I much preferred her more natural-sounding TV voice.

Advanced Valkyrie & Air Cavalry Chronicles

Yes, the Knights of the Sky project gradually evolved into Escaflowne. -
Right, but the point is that that still is not a substantial number, and is still subject to the fact that they fall outside of the target market. Which leads me to... It seems to me that it has something to do with it because if HG wasn't blocking each and every single new Macross product coming out of Japan, stuff would get licensed, would probably sell pretty well (if those Play-asia chart positions are indicative of anything) and maybe, just maybe, eventually developers would consider content for the foreign markets at the planning stage. I think it has everything to do with the state of the Macross franchise overseas.

Oh, that VF-1D box (and valk) is amazing. -
So how is the new stuff, like the booklets and illustration collections? What about the commentaries, how many/which episodes have them, etc?

The garbled text on the box with the back-to-front katakana and whatnot clearly indicates amateur work. If it has a tiny chance of it being anything other than a fan custom, it may be a bootleg. But I am 120% sure it's not. I'm sure the hardcore fan who made it was probably on these boards in the old days anyway -- the community was so close back then. Maybe some original members know who made it. In any case, it is definitely not from Japan.
