Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
Renato replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
Things not mentioned in the ANN article are that it will include reproduction genga (keyframe sketches), an item code for the SP Cross Deculture Android game, and a brand-new 5.1 sound mix of the Movie Edition. Also, it says that it will include footage taken on the US airbase they used for location hunting and research, but that may or may not be the same as what we already saw in the HD Remaster DVD set from a couple of years back. I expect it's the same, but still cool for those that have never seen it.- 516 replies

Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
Renato replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
Wow, that was quick. Fifth post and BAM -- "Wot, you mean all we're getting is the same stuff in HD with tons and tons of extras for the cheapest price this set has ever been available?? Screw THAT." If Kawamori himself delivered it to your door with a singing telegram you would say "You're off key, idiot."- 516 replies

I wasn't going to start a new thread just for this, but the search function really sucks here and I couldn't find any Macross 7 Blu-ray discussion, except for in the FB7 thread. Anyway, I was going through some of the materials included with the first Blu-ray Box of M7, and I found something odd. In the illustration collection booklet, there is a picture of the cover of the old This is Animation Special book. Except it's been modified -- Mylene's face is now drawn closer to Mikimoto's current style, as opposed to his 1990s style. I consulted the largest copy of that image I have, the one in the Gallery section of the Macross Chronicle, and sure enough, the difference is night and day. Basara's face remains unchanged. I have included pics of both so you can check for yourself. Why was this necessary?? Sigh. At least they didn't change the show... oh, apart from the ending of the first episode, which didn't originally have "to be continued" at the end, before the credits (although this change was already present in the 2007 HD remaster DVD box set).

"Super Dimensional Seminar" begins airing
Renato replied to SCOOPUDA!'s topic in Movies and TV Series
The bluray/dvd releases would be of the shows themselves -- this seminar show exists solely to sell those anime discs. -
Wow, that was surprisingly good! Anyway, just a heads-up for you guys: Great Mechanics DX #23 has a Macross 30th Anniversary feature on scriptwriter Sukehiro Tomita. For those not in the know, Tomita wrote DYRL, Mac II, was the main writer for Mac 7, collaborated with Mikimoto on the Baby Birth manga and more. I don't have the mag yet, but I thought to point it out just because it's rather rare to see interviews with him.

http://www.macross30.com/news/ Official 30th anniv. news site got updated again, with a couple of cryptic events(?): 1) "Oshare Macross VD", from 6th Feb 2013. I imagine this is a continuation of the Oshare Macross ("Fashionable Macross") department store "shop-in-shops", but with an added, and rather unfortunate, suffix. 2) The huge VF-1J display at the Akihabara UDX Anime Centre Official Shop has been slightly modified... instead of holding a train station sign reading "Suidobashi", it now reads "Kyoto"... with "Shinjuku" indicated as the previous station. It then hints that there will be one more "stop", designated with a question mark. What can all this mean? It is odd, because there is no train line directly connecting Shinjuku and Kyoto, one would have to change to the Shinkansen at Tokyo. The previous sign showed Suidobashi in between Shinjuku and Akihabara which doesn't make much sense, either, since they skipped Ochanomizu before Akihabara on one side and a bunch of other stations before Shinjuku on the other. Not to mention the Anime Centre itself is right next door to Akihabara and not that close to Suidobashi anyway.

What? Is this out already? (And I believe this deserves a thread of its own, it's completely separate to the SRC toys..)

Yes and no. The original fold booster set was released with the FP parts for the YF-19 only, since at the time the YF-21 already included the fast packs as its own set. After several re-releases, the YF-21 came to be sold as a stand-alone valk, and the Fold booster was reissued with BOTH the 19 and 21 FAST packs included. So if you have a 21 and want the FPs, the only way you can get them now is to go for the foldbooster add-on set which has everything (except the valks, of course).

Ozma had a charcoal black/gunmetal YF-29 in Macross Last Frontier. It also had a special custom head, with two eyes sort of like the Fire Valkyrie. It was the only version I've wanted them to make a toy of, but they still haven't... I would say that the one which you call "normal" is actually an Isamu-specific one. The single head laser (and paintjob, obviously) seems to have been designed to recall Isamu's beloved YF-19.

Thanks. Hmm. Seems like one of the things that ought to be rectified for the new run...

For those of you who have the original run of the Chronicle, how many character sheets are there for the TV series version of Hikaru Ichijo? I was leafing through mine last night, and I found it odd that I only had sheets A and B, and it seems like there should be more because hardly any post-Space War I material was there for him. I'm wondering if there is a C-sheet which I have misplaced or something.

Well, I will be getting at least that issue with the Tenjin VF-19P artwork. I regret getting the Hiroshima edition of that one, because it looks positively awesome.

so... a subbed version of the DYRL 30th anniversary BR?
Renato replied to Skull Leader's topic in Movies and TV Series
This is actually a really good point -- I remember a while back a (Japanese) user on Amazon.co.jp was giving pretty much every DVD /BR a one-star only review just because it didn't have Japanese subtitles. On every one, he explained that his uncle (or some relative, don't remember) was hard of hearing and he really wanted him to enjoy these shows, but NONE of them had subtitles. This is a stark contrast to many, if not MOST English-language DVDs which often have *both* English subtitles and "English for the hearing-impaired" subtitles. Then you have the insane ones like some of the European releases of Seinfeld which has 19 (nineteeeeen!) sets of subtitles (although several of them are due to some commentary tracks), and two or three dubs. That again is because they manufacture many units of the same DVDs and later split them up in different packaging for the different regions. Yeah, none of that is going to happen in Japan anytime soon. We're all better off putting our own subs. Although I still have no clue how to do that. Is there a step-by-step somewhere? Also, I just remembered -- it is now illegal (as in, a punishable offence) to rip a DVD in Japan. Yeah. -
"Mayumi Tanaka, posted news on her blog confirming that Dragon Ball Kai will be continuing, as voice work was already under way for the early stages of the Majin Buu story arc. Her post goes on to specify that the series revivial is for the overseas market, and as of the time of her post there are no plans to air the new episodes in Dragon Ball's home country of Japan." OK, I don't really understand... there are no plans to air it in Japan, yet they are recording the voice work in Japanese? I am sure eventually they will air it in Japan.

Also, Macross 7 was a TV show which required the designs to be simplified to meet the production schedule and budget.

I think the point was that while you were convinced that none of the cast could pronounce the word "correctly", you seemed to not realize that we as English-speakers are guilty of the exact same thing, since what you appeared to equate with "correct" was our English interpretation. In other words, the actors in the show are using the Japanese interpretation -- thus we can waive the accusations of ignorance.

I think the official line is that those toys have been "on a boat" for almost three years. Which is nothing compared to Robotech: Love Live Alive which has been in production for about twenty-five years, so let's be grateful.
-
Well, he did say he would "buy that for a dollar"...
-
I have it but similarly only had time to flip through it. Kawamori is interviewed, but it seems it's mainly a Bandai-sponsored thing this time, there doesn't seem to be any mention of the Yamato toys.
-
Was it already reported that the first pressing will include a product code to download an exclusive YF-29 with special markings? Maybe you can watch the CG stuff and interviews on a regular BD player? If so, I would guess it's not labelled a Hybrid Disc because prior to now the games have been extras to the main features on the Hybrid packs, while this is the opposite. Ugh. Still haven't completed that game. It's so clunky and boring.
