    Macross 30

Like TyrValein and others have said, Macross really is not about the mecha for the younger fans, especially the ones who got into the franchise through Frontier. Many are into the characters, the fashion, the music, etc. Sci-fi and mecha has really fallen by the wayside. That said, we should be glad we still have people like Tenjin who put their all into making the Macross SF elements unique, as opposed to just some generic spaceships and stuff halfheartedly thrown in there. I for one think it's great that a franchise can cater to all these different tastes, giving a chance for those fans to come together. That said, I don't need the BL stuff in my face. Misa is not a singer, that's why she's not there. They said that they gathered various singers from different time periods. Yeah, I don't know what Mao is doing there, either. I guess she did sing that island song thing that one time... As for Ishtar... Yeah, it's a shame that she's getting ignored, but par for the course by this point. EDIT -- Hang on, Misa did sing at least two songs, making her more worthy than Mao. Even Miria and the bridge bunnies have their own songs. Argh
  2. I posted an update to my own post shortly (about a minute) after the original and I got this message "This reply has not been added as it has been posted too quickly". I didn't use to get that before. This is probably not worth fretting about... but.. there you have it.
  3. Reivaj, tu tambien hablas castellano!? Ni idea! De nada. Ahora solo necesitamos un foro en Japones y el mundo (de Macross) sera nuestro!
  4. No need to watch the movie now! Hey, look at the end clip. They actually used a VF-11MAXL and VF-19kai. I seem to recall at least the MAXL was a redecorated VF-25 or something originally. Maybe they re-did the CG models. If so... JUST GIVE US NEW MAC7 ANIMATION RAWR RAWR RAAWWGH
  5. It's got several books, actually, not to mention an entire extra disc worth of bonus materials. Look at all this stuff!: http://www.macross30.com/1stmovie/anniversarybox/ To me it's worth it for that alone. The game is the sweet icing on the top of a delicious cake. It all depends on how much you can find the Collectors Edition for, though.
  6. Nor entertainment, apparently.
  7. I suggest you add the Galaxy Network subs instead (or better still, *as well*). From what I remember Animeigo is accurate for the most part, but there are several errors... I think I may need to rewatch them soon to double-check.
  8. I'd rather have Clash of the Bionoids. ;P

Argh. For the last time, it's not "American Burger", it's "Meriken Burger", as in Meriken Park in Kobe (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3552.html), you know, because Arjuna, Kawamori, etc. I think it would be nothing like the PSP games, because Auto Battle refers to the function where you just let the computer fight for you. Once the battle is done, presumably you would resume your wandering of the world.
  10. Yeah: For this and the Space Cruiser Yamato BD set, the price is really the issue. In terms of visuals, the BD is absolutely incredible. I'm sorry, I was never really very impressed with the Animeigo DVDs. I know the fixed the film splices and the sound was better, but the overly-saturated colours always bugged me. The Blu-rays are gorgeous, though. It's like looking at each individual cel... Some people find the dust and fingerprints off-putting, but I find it fascinating, because it gives clues to the photographic process. The reason I never got the HD Remaster DVD set was because I knew they would bring this one out sooner or later. However, I was on the fence for months after it did come out (and seeing how this was not an immediate sell-out, I wasn't the only one), but I bit the bullet when I felt the price would not go down any lower. Still, just the TV show itself was not enough for me to double-dip -- I mainly wanted the limited edition collector's set because it comes with all sorts of stuff like storyboards and initial-draft scripts which is really great. Although that missing page from the Perfect Memory reprint is irritating. As far as visual extras, they are the same as the ones on the "HD Remaster DVD" set from 2008 or so, except for the Pachinko stuff, and a TV special retrospective on Macross's 30th anniversary. For a full documentary on the story behind the making of the TV series and movie, the DYRL Limited Edition BD is much better. The booklet included in the LE SDFM TV series box does however provide quite a lot of info on the matter, though, such as how the "Genocidus" project and the "Megaroad" project coalesced to become "Macross", with some rare Studio Nue pre-production sketches. With this set, DYRL and Mac7 on BD, I think I'm done with Macross. You're not going to get better picture quality or content. I do have the MacPlus BD set and FB7 on order, but that's more sort of a "completist OCD" symptom.
  11. Simply put: it wasn't. I think you're reading episode 27 wrong... Hikaru does not profess his love to Minmay -- he says that he *was* in love with her. When they kiss, it is a goodbye kiss. And once he sees her kiss Kaifun, even though it's part of the mission, he feels closure.
  12. Browsed through issue 2 in a bookshop, but I'm going to skip it. Might get issue 3, though. Issue 2's feature on Episode 1 of Macross 7 does have that bit of info about it using 7000 cels, around twice as much as a regular 30 minute anime that I mentioned quite recently somewhere (they talk about it in greater detail in that "Macross Fastest Liftoff" TV special), but it also states that that's why the music scenes and battle scenes look so great... Yeah...
  14. Sort of reminds me of this:
  15. I believe it's one of those raffle things so we won't know who gets it until next month or so -- Sketchley might still win it.
  16. I know, I spelled it right the first two times, then くせで、my fingers kept wanting to type Chigusa. It is a rare name, as you say. I did fix it on the front page right after I spotted the mistake, though by that point the automatic post had already been made here in the thread. Actually, even though this is WF related, this shouldn't really be here -- it would be of more interest to the Movies & TV series crowd. Can it be moved there?
  17. I doubt they will. The reason I say this is because that and the weird face colouring on the VF-19S were still present in the data files included with the Macross 7 Blurays. So I'm guessing that's the official colouring now..? Technically Megazone 23, Gundam Unicorn, Yamato 2199, etc are all OVAs, but they were shown at the cinema and even had pamphlets produced just like FB7, though...

Well, they have shown both. I guess he upgrades at some point? Anyway, if they're gonna make a toy, I'd much rather they make the Ozma variant YF-29 first.
  20. "Viking" / "Valkyrie"...
  21. Yeah, I am, but that's because those ads are generated by whatever you've expressed an interest in during your online activities. Not everyone gets the same ads.
  22. Having been watching these shows on Bluray recently, several aspects of them are fresh on my mind. I thus have a couple of topics worth discussing which I will be in touch with you about.
  23. You win. That was perfect!
