    Hmmm....
  7. I think I already talked about this release here: http://www.macrossworld.com/4157/macross-speakerpodcast-ep-7-bag-of-orgus/ But you're right, I don't think I ever gave a proper summary of my impressions on the boards. Well, I already watched the whole thing, saw every extra and read all the booklets. Here are my thoughts: -The image looks *fantastic*. Like I said, this is likely not a new transfer, it is the same as the 2007 "HD Remaster" DVD release, but when I first saw those remastered episodes online a few years back, I was amazed, and have been waiting for the DVD sets to come down in price ever since. Until this BD was announced, that is. Because now the image takes advantage of full HD and you can see every little detail which was previously obscured. -The content and layout: The series is split into two box sets, 4 discs each. Perfect. The Cowboy Bebop and Space Cruiser Yamato BD releases only have 20-odd episodes each and inexplicably take up 8 or 9 discs each. -The package design: Nice and compact. In the podcast in the link above, we discuss how the Limited Edition BD package of the SDF Macross series is just a pain in the neck because of its design. These are smaller sized, and easy enough to get the discs in and out, plus the slipcase design with the cut-out "7" makes it interesting and attractive to the eye. One thing I will say, though -- the typeface used and the spine design could have been a bit more aesthetically pleasing. The slipcase itself needs a little more of "something" to really make it look pretty. -Bonus features -- everything that was in the HD Remaster DVDs, which is basically everything you could ever want anyway. The Mac7 Plus shorts? Of course. Macross Fastest Liftoff? Yes. Karaoke movies? Yes. Five different creditless openings for Dynamite 7? Why not. Even some audio files of the limited edition mail-away CDs and the Ticke-Maga CD from the 1995 movie ticket preorders are included. But the only NEW feature for these sets is the inclusion of audio commentaries, one on each disc, which give intriguing insights into the production of the show. -Physical extras -- Pretty good overall, but personally this is where a *little* more effort would have gone a long way. I don't have the HD Remaster DVD sets, but I imagine it's basically the same deal. Each set comes with three booklets: one is a booklet of sheet music for some of the songs, one is a simple illustration collection from the various M7 releases and books over the years, and then we have the "Archives" materials booklet. The Archives, though nicely done, looks nothing more than glorified "Macross Chronicle" pages, in my opinion. The content is not identical, as in, it's not a copy&paste job, but it is similar enough. You have the timeline, you have the breakdown of the good-guy robots and enemy robots, character bios, etc. It is nice that they try to connect it to SDFM and Frontier/Zero, etc, but at the end of the day I was disappointed because I expected "Archives" to be about the production of the show itself. The SDFM BD set came with an excellent booklet detailing the evolution of the Genocidus project and the Megaroad project and how they coalesced to become Macross, with all-new staff interviews. I guess I should be satisfied with the commentaries that do provide some insight into that aspect, but commentaries and proper text interviews are different. Especially when these commentaries are more about jokingly reminiscing, which is fun to listen to, but doesn't have the dense detail as a proper investigation of the production process. Anyway, that might be nitpicking, but I walked away with the impression that a lot more love had been put into the releases of DYRL and SDFM. However, at the end of the day, the release is really everything that you need from the show, so it's kind of a testament to how much love was originally put into the HD Remaster sets with all the extras and everything, meaning that there was never really that much more you could have added. The show will never look any better than this. If you are an M7 fan, this is a no-brainer. All things considered, it's an excellent release.

Yeah, I have the small CMs PVC figures, but they kind of just sit there. Dunno what I'm gonna do with a larger one. If they were poseable then it would be a different story...

I'm not a static figure guy, but I might just get the Minmay/Sheryl one, now that I know how cheap the other ones go for. I thought these were supposed to be 8000 yen or so, judging by what I heard about previous figures. But a couple of months ago I saw the Sheryl/Basara one for just over 1500 yen, and was quite surprised. Still on the fence, though.
  10. Pic doesn't work... But what's really funny is that due to the way it's written, the banner that appears above the stage during the concert scenes in Dynamite 7 always looked to me like it says "Five Bomber"!
  11. Kaldar, since you're sort of new, I'll explain to you how this works. AgentOne will jump into a random non-M7 specific thread and say something derogatory about Macross 7 and/or its fans out of the blue, usually homophobic. In no time, Duke Togo, supposedly having received some sort of "M7 hate alarm" triggered by A1's comment, will awaken and chime in with the internet equivalent of "Yeah! What he said". Later, other MW members will jump in and the thread will turn into an M7 love/hate thread, each side attempting to make a case for why it rocks/sucks. The thread degenerates into chaos, and despite sporadic mod warnings every so often, eventually is locked. Which means that AgentOne is now free to find another thread to destroy. Unless he gets banned, after which he is allowed to come back anyway for good behaviour or something, I don't know what happens there. Seriously, I've seen this pattern over and over -- you can do a search if you have time/can be bothered, it's clockwork. In a way, it's impressive. I see, got it.
  12. Be aware that there are two editions of this set, one with the book and stuff and another, smaller one, just with the discs. Make sure you're buying the right one. I have made mistakes in the (recent) past...
  13. Right.... Anyway, at the risk of going off-topic (because this is such a serious discussion), may I ask what you think of Macross Frontier, AgentOne? If I recall, your main complaints about M7 were that it was full of girly-men and people cross-dressing, however accurate that may have been. I figured if you ever watched Frontier your brain would just evaporate and turn to ashes as a vampire exposed to the sun in disbelief, since those things are prominently in there. In fact, I would even go as far as speculating that Kawamori himself read your posts all these years and said "No, no, THIS IS WHAT I CALL GIRLY-MEN" Edit -- for emphasis, because AgentOne seems to have a tendency to miss details -- THAT IS A MAN IN A DRESS
  14. Oh, you two, it's been over ten years of this. Get a room already...... a Fire Bomber-themed karaoke room, that is!
  15. Thanks! Ah, that's from Advanced Valkyrie. I don't remember if it was featured in the original Chronicle run, though. I might check later.
  16. The preview for issue 04 is showing that it will cover the VF-X-7 Ghost Valkyrie and the Stampede Valkyrie... What's a Ghost Valkyrie?
  17. Great! I have this book back in the UK. I believe it's got some storyboards for the action scenes of Episode 2 at the rear section. I will try to download and check, because I think those are not in any other book.
  18. I'm not sure what people mean. Most mobile versions of sites work fine on my PSP, but not this site. Do I have to change some settings or something?
  19. Issue 3 is out today. I'm gutting it just for the cover art. Edit -- I meant to write "getting", not "gutting", but I guess the latter is also true.

    Macross figures

Haven't been keeping up, sorry, but what one Earth is this thing?? http://1kuji.bpnavi.jp/item/497/2839/ Am I the only one who wants to get fully articulated Fire Bomber figures already, instead of yet more of these?
  21. That would be the following day, though.
  22. Keith, nobody doubts the passion you have for the franchise, but you have always let that trump facts and logic in the ten years we have both been posting here. Like, every single time. How can you guarantee this? Were you there at the meetings? Did you actually look up the Japanese media laws to check and see if game content laws also extend to what's on the rest of the disc? Guaranteeing something with no proof just spreads inaccurate information throughout the internet, and usually that crap spreads faster than the facts. Remember the whole "Animefriend" embargo? If you have proof, please share it. It really gets on my nerves, when I have to spend the next decade cleaning up the trash that has become legend, just because some dude typed some random thought ages ago on some board. You may be right. But we don't know. Here's what I wrote ages ago: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=37131&p=989304 I wrote "only" there, but looking back, maybe it can be taken to mean that they changed the content of the movie just to suit that rating. So let's play devil's advocate and go with that. Now, the package specifically refers to the DYRL PS1 game as being classified CERO B for sex & violence, while the PS3 game is CERO A. They actually differentiated them. OK, well, the PS1 download codes only came with the Limited Edition, and if we look back at the news, we can see that this was a late addition to the box set. Thus, it seems unlikely that they made the cuts just for that. But more importantly, it means that the rating for the stand-alone release is CERO A. Which means, playable by all -- in other words, this should not have any effect on the content at all, and there should be no cuts in the movie. But there are. The other thing is all the gore and violence that was in the Macross F movie Sayonara no Tsubasa is still there, intact, even though that's marketed as a game, too.

Heh, I wouldn't say you are being stupid.... at least not for not being able to read Japanese. Hear that, Ishtar? TRY HARDER NEXT TIME!!
  24. In my opinion, the edit is virtually virtually a non-issue considering all the other great, great stuff that's in this box. I would recommend it to anybody who has a slightest interest in Macross in a heartbeat.
  25. That never works for me. Like, at all.
