You mean "Moe for me then", yes? Arf arf arf...

Say BigWest and Satelight randomly decided to make a new Macross show aimed at kids, as inconceivable as that may seem. If Yamato/Arcadia were to produce the merchandising -- even MORE inconceivable since it would have to be a much larger company to foot the sponsorship bill -- they would be entering uncharted territory for them. They have never made any toys for children. Having to shift to that type of product is like telling a professional basketball player to substitute as a midfielder in the World Cup final match (yeah, people hate soccer/football, whatever, analogy still stands). They would need to start from scratch -- designing a toy for kids is not just about making things "simpler" or "smaller" -- there are many hurdles that need to be jumped such as child safety regulations, materials, etc. Yamato/Arcadia is geared for none of this. Jwinges, you mentioned how you considered them as the Ferrari or Lamborghini of the toy world. Do any of us drive a Ferrari SUV?

Yeah, but HG would get on his back, and make it more trouble than it's worth.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this all started just because one guy said that it's good that Yamato is gone, since all they did was make Macross into a hobby for the collectors only, like an exclusive members-only club, that's where we went off on the "elitist" tangent. Instead, he suggested that now that they are gone, another company like Bandai can take the helm and put Macross back on track, into its rightful place as disposable playthings for children of all ages, affordable by and accessible to any and all families regardless of financial situation. My opinion is that if that was a viable option, it would have happened already anyway. Yamato did not stand in any other company's way who wanted to go down this path. The reason this hasn't happened is simply because that particular consumer base isn't there. Kids just don't play with toys anymore, they play videogames. As for the argument about how can Macross be introduced to a new audience otherwise -- Frontier did pretty well among the high-school/college crowd, being a hit before any transformable valk toy was released. There is many a hint to be picked up on there.

Technically, *first* and foremost, it was the name for "Japan".

Here are some comparison pics with the YF-19. I cannot force the ankles on my 19P back any further lest I risk damage. Thus in order to keep the nosecone parallel to the ground I need to fiddle with the intake- and knee-joints. The result is a less agressive-looking Gerwalk, compared to the YF-19.

If I still thought it was the 80s I would be a much happier man, dammit. -
I *think* that's Hikuro's own self-produced dub. He's a member here, if you message him he'll reply. Actually, after digging up his thread on it, I noticed you had already posted in it... Oh well.

You really get heated over what is just five nonsensical words... I thought you had one already, for some reason. As for the hybrid packs -- it's worth it because Blu-ray!! The games are cool, but if you do not already have at least Sayonara and DYRL on BD and you are getting a PS3 you are seriously missing out, it's like watching them in a brand new light, especially DYRL. Highly, highly recommended, and if you can get the collector's editions, even better.

Yes. ♪ "Megumi Oboeteimasuka" ♪ -
Got this cel fairly recently. Not sure what episode it is from since Basara does not have his glasses, though.

Going on Youtube, I noticed that the scene in the dub with "A MAN AND A WOMAN" does not have subtitles. The top and bottom are not cropped, only the left and right sides. If you compare it with any other version, for example this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwJjrWhYv3g ... then you can see that the subtitles should still have been visible if they were using the same masters. So what I want to know now -- and this goes beyond the scope of a newbie thread -- is where is this film without the subtitles burned onto them? IMO it may have been better to have used that one to restore and remaster for the Blu-ray, since you may have gotten a clearer image, and used digital subtitles. Hmm. Toho?

Ah yes, Kiseki. So here's a question. Kiseki released DYRL in two versions, the subtitled version you mentioned and the dub, with the package entitled "Clash of the Bionoids", but it was actually "Super Spacefortress Macross", uncut in its entirety. I remember the latter not having any Japanese subtitles during the Zentradi language scenes, since everything was dubbed into English. If so, it is the only "clean" version of those movie scenes that exist. I own the VHS but it is in the UK, and even if I take it out of storage I don't know anyone with a machine that can play it. Can anyone confirm that those scenes have *no* Japanese subtitles?

I agree. I've actually been meaning to get another one since the one I have has been in the UK for about a decade. EDIT -- If only it could bend at the knees!!
-
"Bionoid" is actually a term chosen by Kawamori & co. It's not in the actual movie, but it's used in the official trailer.

They haven't MADE "Macross" into an elitist collectors line. They just make product to cater to pre-existing elitist collectors. There's a difference. Yeah, the kids love Macross Zero! Fisher-Price's "My First SV-51" is very popular! All joking aside, I dare you to hand over a Bandai VF-171 to a child. I am not responsible for any damage to the valk or kid.

Argh, I got those two confused. Yeah, Ishihara basically said he doesn't care about Anime Fair and so the companies backed out, and got together and made the Anime Contents Expo. And now it seems everyone forgot the reason for doing that in the first place so we have two.

That's exactly what the problem is. If you can't tilt the ankles back much, of course the plane is going to automatically lean forward.
