  1. Agreed. May I suggest we move this guitar discussion over to the dedicated thread, though? This one is just for Arcadia general speculation discussion. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35086&page=3
  2. You are underestimating ESP, they are well established. They made a Mylene bass in the 90s.
  3. I don't understand. What's silly? It sounds like you believe the answer to your analogous question is so obvious, but clearly there are people who would like to drive around in something that looks like a future concept Ferrari. Considering you're hardly ever going to get any Ferrari to its top speed legally anyway, I can imagine that looks may be far more important to some. In this case, however, Basara guitars have never existed in our world until now. How can you ask what one would rather have in this case, when there is only one option available? I have seen people -- mostly cosplayers -- make their own Basara guitars out of wood/plastic, etc, but they are not real guitars. This IS the real thing, hence the price. Even if it is not as good as other guitars in the same price range, there are no other functional Basara guitars out there.
  4. I've been telling Tochiro to do that for over a year now....
  5. I'm not sure where Tochiro got his information from, but IIRC in Kawamori's own words in his book, he didn't know that much more about AKB48 than your average person on the street (in Japan) before that AKB0048 anime project came up, and went to their concerts for research purposes only once the project was greenlit with him as director. It didn't seem like he was an AKB48 fan at all.
  6. Does anyone know what the deal is with licensing regarding these Masei ones?
  7. You don't owe toy companies anything, fine. So why not apply that logic to the guys posting magazine photographs? Do they owe you free high-resolution images for some reason? I'm just trying to understand all the looking in gift horses' mouths.
  8. I thought I already answered his question three posts above, two months ago. Why is he asking it again??
  9. Heh. That's true, this is going to be remembered as a symbolic Valk, more than anything else. The "VF-1P Panic Valkyrie", if you will.
  10. I don't know. Here: http://arcadia.ac/ eventually, I guess. "Hoping". Why don't you judge by the three pages of discussion we have been having right here on this thread instead? I don't know, but I've always thought it looked interesting. It is a very small, thin acoustic type. http://img.youtube.com/vi/9rRTYj6qz7g/0.jpg
  11. NEWS!! Courtesy of member Dark_Ghost: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=39106&p=1048496 Price will be a whopping 350,000 yen. Comes with hard case and pick. First run limited to just 10 -- yes, TEN -- guitars, so pre-order....
  12. Great! At last, some details on the Basara Guitar! OK, apart from the astronomical price, 350,000 yen (well, we knew it would be a lot, but...), they are making a grand total of 10. TEN!! Granted, it says that this is just the "first run", so I'm sure there will be demand for more.... But, anyway... wow!
  13. Beggars can't be choosers. I suggest you buy the magazine yourself if this is so "stupid".
  14. Wow. OK, well, somebody has to show Kawamori this. And is there a character called "Doraemon" in there, or are those subtitles just weird?
  15. Yep. Just to elaborate: the reason only the Fire Valk needs them is because the side lasers on the Kai's head need to be inside the body of the plane in Fighter mode, whereas they stay popped out on all the other variants.
  16. I just realized I never got round to posting my impressions of the movie, probably because we recorded a podcast right after. Anyway, OK, here are my thoughts, briefly. I thought the movie looked good. I wasn't really blown away, but it looks competent. I assume it's the same remaster as the most recent DVD releases. Maybe because Macross 7's colour palette is much more vibrant, I thought M7 looked much more crisp and vivid than Plus, but we shall see when the actual BDs come and I can watch them at home. It's probably just due to the content. A lot of nice small touches such as sunlight reflections on the water and twinkling distant city lights were there that I never noticed before. Downside is that quite a bit of the CG (especially near the end) just looks even more dated now when you ramp up the resolution.... but that can't be helped. Soundwise -- The 5.1 mix is pretty good. It makes for a more immersive experience, especially the scene where "Bad Dog" plays (the BGM with the crazy scatting). The scats sounded like they were surrounding you, which leads me to believe that they not only remixed the movie's audio tracks, but they went back to the original elements for the BGM and played about with those, too, separating them into various channels. Quadrophenia, whoo! As far as I can tell, it is the first time they have done that for any Macross movie (the BGMs tend to be stereo). Now here's something that I totally forgot to mention in the podcast, but was very noticeable for me in the cinema. Gubaba mentioned that the phone sex in "Idol Talk" has been removed. I couldn't tell, but I am quite sure that the stuff that they ADDED to the soundtrack, in terms of effects, was far more noticeable (to me). Quite a few quiet scenes, in particular the spooky, mostly silent scenes with Sharon staring, etc., have been given eerie hissing/buzzing sounds to up the ambience. However, it just reminds me of schlocky horror flicks, so I didn't care for that at all. Maybe I'll get used to it, but it was definitely jarring.

  18. I think every owner of this mold has gone through this at least once. It feels like it can't go any further, but you really have to force it.
  19. Congratulations! I was actually watching it this morning! It's (probably) my favourite Macross show, and it looks gorgeous in HD. The BDs are totally worth it, and they're crammed with extras, too.
  20. "Edge enhancement" is one of those digital techniques that can be employed to make movies clearer and sharper. It's rather artificial and not really a "remaster", so consider the "HD remaster DVD" just something that they put through a bunch of filters, rather than actually going back to the masters and cleaning that up. The film is dark to begin with, so bringing out detail means that you're gonna get a lot of grain, which is what happened with the 2007 release. The Blu-ray is a remaster in the true sense -- however, the image quality varies because of the way that the movie was filmed in the first place: every imperfection shows up now, including the numerous out-of-focus shots, which is quite distracting. All in all, they all have their pluses and minuses. As for the Flashback ending, they all have it. If you get the Limited Edition of the 2007 DVD, you have the "theatrical version" of the movie without the Flashback ending as a bonus disc. The Blu-ray has two modes in the same disc and can be configured to play with or without it. Finally, the "Misa narration" refers to the narration which you hear in between levels of the Saturn DYRL game. They include all of those along with the extra game-only footage (the attack on the Prometheus, the ARMD attack, Destroids preparing for deployment, the jamming station, Minmay saying "Listen to my song!" [well, not exactly, but sort of!] etc...) on the Limited Edition versions of the 2007 DVD and the Blu-ray.
  21. Yeah, until I got a PS3, the 1999 DVD was UNWATCHABLE. There is a ton of interlacing issues and it takes a lot away from the film, especially during the action scenes. It's not bad (just dark and murky overall) on a fairly good set-up.
  22. Yeah, I think it was mentioned in the talk show event that it was Anno who animated the iconic scene where the YF-21 takes off for the first time. I didn't know that!
  23. Hey, it's cropped. Hmm... I think I'd rather have the full image on the cover.
  24. Wow, I don't even remember writing that! And nobody responded anyway.
  25. Yeah, but I figured he doesn't care about that as much as he does the edits. Actually it's not that bad, anyway. EDIT -- I should add that if you get the limited edition of either the BD or the 2007 HD Remaster DVD, you do not need the 20th Anniversary thing since the Saturn game OP footage will be in there anyway -- and not just that, but they included the Mika "Misa" Doi narration in between the cutscenes, too, which is not in the 20th Anni DVD. Lastly, there is a cool retrospective documentary on the bonus disc of the LE Blu-ray, too, which is good.
