Robotech - Love Live Alive + Shadow Chronicles 2-movie set
Renato replied to Negotiator's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Like the Negotiator, Duke Togo and Azrael said, because it just became a cycle of incessant arguing. Think about it, the show has been dead for three decades with nothing new coming out except whatever d*ck move HG made to further stifle the Macross brand recently. Nothing constructive can ever come from that. I would concede that it was a good place to let off steam regarding the whole licensing situation, but at the end of the day there was nothing productive.- 371 replies

But if they make it all colourful, it will be indistinguishable from Power Rangers, which you obviously don't want.

I don't know, but it should already be freed up, since TMS has strict policies on their international licensing contracts. They have told me that licenses are never more than 3 years, after which they extend or cancel after renegotiation -- which, in this case, it is clear what happened since ImaginAsian has been rather quiet for about 6 or 7 years. It's possible TMS could lend them out to Discotek if there were to be dialogue between them. My question is: What about the US Renditions dub? Did ImaginAsian approach USR to license that? If so, could Discotek make a deal to include that audio in their version, too? At this stage, this is all just one giant jenga tower of speculation, though. I'm pretty sure Orguss on Blu-ray will not have subtitles in Japan, though. I am also rather cautious regarding the "remaster" -- We'll have to wait and see. I'll definitely be buying it regardless, so watch this space(-time oscillation bomb).

Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
Renato replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
For the reasons I mentioned? Correct. And that's what I did when I got the series on those DVD collection boxes 1 and 2, several years back. I put the Manga audio on my own copy of Episode 4, and threw the Spanish dub in there for good measure, too. Best of ALL worlds! Well, I have been talking about the alternate dub for *years*.... Anyway, there's no real actual "edits", unless you are talking about the new 5.1 mix for the movie. The Stereo audio is there, too, so there should be no problem.- 516 replies

No, when he said all of the VF-19's, he meant... just the Kai. Although the original YF-19 had that feature, so I see the new one having it too.

If you are referring to ImaginAsian's subs, I doubt that the Japanese side of things is going to license those materials from them.

Oh, look what we have here. If it isn't the elusive International Version Volume 4... Wikipedia is right after all: released in 2000, five years after the rest. What, BV, did you only make five of these or something??- 516 replies

I know that this: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26575&&page=3 ...is the general MW Orguss topic, but I figured since it hadn't been updated since 2008 it would be OK to start a new thread.... now that it has been revealed to be on the way for an autumn release on Blu-ray! Remastered in high definition! (revealed inside the Macross Plus boxset) http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=37865&p=1055413 This page should be updated with details soon: http://www.toei-video.co.jp/BD/orguss.html

Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
Renato replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
"Oh, I've been waiting for you... My pretty girl!" So I pulled a "flying get" and got my copy this morning, a day before the official release. Here are some pics: Interesting promotional materials which never saw the light of day: Video quality: I just popped Disc 1 in there, and the picture quality is as awesome as you would expect in keeping with the previous Macross BD releases (I stand by the opinion that the blurriness of some shots in DYRL are due to photography issues), and looks brilliantly clear. Now, of course the first thing I checked was Episode 4 and the English dub on it. Yes, as I predicted, it's the alternate dub. I won't have time to check out the rest of the extras and stuff for a while, but for what it's worth, yes, you can enjoy Solid Isamu Snake and his crappy over-acting in HD. It should be noted that some of the actors are the same as the original Manga dub and yet also sound like they're over-acting so it's likely an issue with the voice director. But, but.... MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL...... Yes, yes, YES!! YES!!! It's Orgussmic!- 516 replies

Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
Renato replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeah, like GGemini said, the alternate dub can be found on the DVD sets. However, it is just for Episode 4, Eps. 1-3 are the same as the Manga releases. There seems to have been some issue with the Manga version of Volume 4 -- I remember at the time reading in a magazine that the really long delay (it was over a year, I think!) in getting the English dub out in the West was because the BGM and SE mixes were misplaced or destroyed and they had to be completely reconstructed and recompiled in Hollywood, which would explain the differing effects and music from the Japanese original. I always thought that the Japanese LD releases of the Japanese "International Version" that GGemini mentioned only covered volumes 1-3, with Vol. 4 conspicuously absent. However, a couple of years ago, a member here posted an image of *just the disc; not the packaging* of the VHD (neither LD nor VHS, nor DVD) version of Vol.4. Unless I am mistaken. Still, to this day I have never heard nor seen a release of Vol4 on any format otherwise. (For the record, I own 1-3 of the "International Version" Japanese LDs) Looking here, though...: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B9%E3%83%97%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B9#.E3.82.A4.E3.83.B3.E3.82.BF.E3.83.BC.E3.83.8A.E3.82.B7.E3.83.A7.E3.83.8A.E3.83.AB.E3.83.90.E3.83.BC.E3.82.B8.E3.83.A7.E3.83.B3 Apparently, Volume 4 WAS released, but 5 years later in March 2000! The series would make its debut on DVD a year later. I would bet that the content of this release is the alternate English dub. Since 4th volume of the Manga dub was completely produced in the US, its stands to reason that Bandai Visual did not have the rights to use the sound effects from that release domestically, and thus came up with their own solution. That's my theory anyway. As for personal preferences, in terms of acting, the Manga version is far superior. The alternate one just sounds really off to me, with all the characters rather stiff and unnatural. Although it has been years since I heard it. I'm actually looking forward to listening to it again, now. But yeah, not to push the panic button too early, but don't be surprised if suddenly Volume 4 sounds nothing like you remember it.- 516 replies

Great custom Scream Man! But... did you do that all in one day?? As for my VF-11C.... I have one cracked shoulder. Before anyone panics, though, I have never heard of anything like this happening on any other VF-11 and I have an 11B which is perfectly fine. Technically the crack is on the hinge around which the whole arm assembly swings for transformation, and I can only assume the crack was caused because of an overly tight screw that is at the centre pivot of the hinge. I don't really have any other clues. It's still OK, though, just loose.

Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
Renato replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
No, it is still in there (we saw it at the cinema last month). I had no problem with that shot back in the day, but yeah, seeing it in HD on the big screen made it very hard to swallow. Not just that, but the scenes with Sharon riding that white bird thing were pretty lame, too... But there is much more goodness in there to make up for it, so I don't feel the need to have it removed. In fact, I would hate to have anything changed, even the bad parts.- 516 replies

Music : electro house version of Watashi no Kare wa Pilot.
Renato replied to Gakken85's topic in Movies and TV Series
Good point! I still have a soft spot for the originals, though. The great thing about self-covers is that the original artists tend to keep the heart and soul of those songs intact in the newer versions, whereas that does not always happen in other cases. -
It's written with the same kanji as the word for "future" (未来), but instead of the standard "Mirai" reading, her name is read "Miku". Irregular, and sometimes original, readings occur a lot with Japanese names. I have seen Hikaru's name (一条 輝) once written as "Teru Ichijo" in some official English thing, like a pencil board or something, which is not wrong in terms of it being a possible reading of the Kanji but it's definitely incorrect in terms of what his actual name is. Another good example I remember well is in Tokyo Movie Shinsha's catalogue for overseas licensees of their anime productions, where Orguss's main character, Kei Katsuragi (桂木 桂) is called "Katsura Katsuragi", because if you notice, he has the same kanji in both his family name and given name; it just doesn't mean that they are pronounced the same.

I haven't seen it in person, but there is the possibility that it's just a painted prototype.

I remember reading it was about 1 million. But I don't remember the source. I probably read it in the Macross Compendium, which is compiled mostly of official sources, but they were not referenced.

I know, it really is shockingly expensive, especially considering that it is not going to be fully tampo-ed and we don't know exactly what will be or won't. What we do know is that at least the small logos, you will have to apply yourself. The reason for this is that it would be prohibitively expensive otherwise. Mr. K goes into detail here regarding the Tampo printing process, giving us hints as to why they went the route they did: http://arcadia.ac/macross30th/diary/01/page_07.php Since every colour has to be printed separately in stages, if you were to print just the tiny Frontier logo, you would need to first print the large red "F" in the background of the logo, and then overlay the マクロス (Macross) title over it. Chances are, the bold red of the F would still be visible underneath, so you would have to print the "Macross" once again. Then overlay the gradients, etc... All the while making sure that the positioning is precise to a fraction of a millimetre, considering the tiny size of each logo! And then you have to multiply that by the number of all the logos on the chest and legs... Considering all of that, plus the fact that some people may want to enjoy the Valk without the logos, the decision was made to make them as stickers and decals. He says he realizes that it may be cumbersome for some people to have to apply all these stickers...

I would say Mr. K's Twitter account is one to watch. He has been responding relatively candidly to tweets -- the other day somebody asked him if Arcadia would release a VF-4G and he simply responded that it was "up to the licensor" (BigWest). As for the box art, maybe it's similar to this? http://arcadia.ac/macross30th/wall/index.php
