  1. Children of Men is really good, but it's a dystopian social commentary, with only very minimal SF elements, if at all.
  2. A lot of them have already appeared elsewhere since, such as the Kawamori interview, which was on the DYRL BD Extras disc. As for the "Movie Macross F: Nether Back to Basics" and "2. "Macross Keep: Back to Basics triangle border of empty bag." (60 minutes)", I still have no idea what they are supposed to be..!
  3. OK, that's fine if it's not to your tastes (actually, me neither), but it is in fact line-art acurate. http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/macross7/vf-19s-battroid.jpg
  4. No, they came back because they didn't feel that MII did any justice to the original. If you want to make a case for arrogance, then really it was a case of "We're gonna show them how it's done". The thing is, they succeeded, because they knew what they were talking about. I don't see how that is hypocritical -- it seems perfectly in line with their sentiments to me. You are right: they *didn't* want to do a sequel to Macross, and they would have gotten their wish if it wasn't for MacII. They felt pressured into doing it because MacII destroyed the legacy of the show. I'm grateful for MacII that it was what led to Plus and 7. And I am glad to see it retired, having served its purpose. HG should do the same with Robotech, really. But that's another issue.
  5. Which part is inaccurate?
  6. If I had to guess, I would say because of the DC/WB relation..? (WB paid for the RT license and now feels like they have to do something -- ANYTHING -- since a LAM is out of the question). This is pure speculation, though.
  7. And yet "nodding and wanting to vanish" is hardly a rare reaction to my... antics.
  8. It's probably just a packet of seeds.
  9. They got the watermelon license!!!!!
  10. The funniest (or most horrible, depending on how you look at it) thing is that Fukuyama said he forgot to bring a change of clothes, and by the end of the gig he was literally dripping with sweat. Megumi Toyoguchi noted how he looked totally soaked, as if you could wring his t-shirt and the sweat would just pour out. Looking at that image, it's no wonder why!
  11. Not anymore but I can read it with few problems. Unfortunately I won't have time to translate this whole thing. Skimming through it, though, I will say that one highlight which I had never heard anywhere before is where he mentions that he had the idea for a show about a kid who rides a bicycle into space, and was just about to pitch it.. and then ET came out.
  12. Heh, good one. Translation: The Isamu YF-29 is going to look so pitiful next to this Only joking, but I am entertained by the competition between these two. It's like our own Project Supernova!!
  13. Awesome write-up by Gubaba... I would add that the incredible pyrotechnics during Burning Fire were somewhat frightening in retrospect, considering it took the 13,000 of us at least 30 minutes to exit the building... I'm glad I wasn't in the front row when those fireballs were shooting into the air because it was boiling hot just being in that hall... Should anything have gone wrong, we wouldn't even have been able to scream "Fire" for help, because some fools would only respond "BOMBER!!" (Ironically, "BOMBERO" means "Firefighter" in Spanish. Isn't that just FRICKIN' AWESOME?!)
  14. No way. The show was five hours long. They may include a couple of songs, or perhaps even the full frontier set list (doubful), but if the whole concert was an extra you'd be adding at least another 8000 yen to the price, for sure.
  15. Yes, they are similar to the ones on the VF-19. They are in the animation,at least in episode 4, you see Isamu launch some High maneuver missiles. Yes, it will come with all these missiles and armament. No confirmation on hardpoints on the wings, but obviously those reaction missiles and laser pods have to go somewhere, right (they are not internal)?
  16. Internal missile bays confirmed; crapton of missiles, laser pods and other ordinance included... Edit -- Forgot to mention: high-speed mode with the wings folding back also confirmed. Panickers will panic. Fans will rejoice.
  17. I was actually going to get my crayons and draw my version of the covers for him, but I couldn't even muster the effort for that.
  18. You speak as if this has never happened before. Shows released in volumes eventually get released in a box set, we all know this. And Frontier is already over half a decade old. As for the remaster aspect, obviously lighter fans aren't going to care, but the super anal hardcore fans expect the utmost quality and the improved blending in this release will probably please some of those ultra-geeks. It's not just a case of "it's HD already so what's the point?" The improvements in encoding parameters etc. make enough differences even if they share the "HD" label. Just as an aside, the show was broadcast in HD, but I remember having a pamphlet including an interview with Kawamori explaining what Bluray was and how the BD releases would look better than the broadcast versions, even at the same resolution. HD just means High Definition, it tells us nothing of how good it actually looks until we see the transfer. Anyway, I will not be getting this because it has absolutely nothing for me at all, but I'm not going to be hating on it just because it exists. Double-dip items are annoying when you didn't know they were coming and the company "tricks" you, but who honestly never expected a Frontier box set? Honestly, if anything I'm surprised it's taken this long.
  19. Technically there has never been an actual "box set", they were individual releases and some came with boxes to collect the volumes in. The main difference, other than the added extras, I would say is that this is actually a new, cleaner transfer. The gradations are smoother, for example (according to the promotional video). I remember Boinger saying that only the Macross Ultimate Frontier bonus UMD ever had them, so I believe this is a first for HD.
  20. And the immigration office. Oh, and if anyone wants a YF-25 Prophecy Bandai kit, they have one in Tachikawa Book Off.
  21. It's almost embodies doom for whatever magazine is unfortunate enough to be involved with it; they might as well just rename it "Macbeth the First"
