  1. Release date listed as April 30; in other words, Japan-based fans will get screwed because the government is jacking up the consumption tax from 5 to 8% from that month onwards. Oh, happy days.
  2. If you have spelling mistakes, it's likely that you bought a bootleg.
  3. It can be perfectly and expertly made, but the Japanese audiences just aren't going to see it. Harlock spent a ton of money taking out a full FOUR-PAGE ad in the Asahi Shimbun newspaper a couple of weeks ago, and the focus of the hype machine was that it was a Japan-produced message to the world -- they wanted to make it clear that the world was watching and this movie was meant to cement Japan's position on the global stage not only in terms of creativity, but resources, too, hence the full-CG to rival Hollywood. Nowhere did it actually go into any detail as to what the film was about. Why? Because general audiences hit the snooze button as soon as you mention anything to do with science-fiction, or space, or fantasy. The best-selling movies in Japan all have the word "cry" or "crying" or "tears" in the title -- you have to get the female demographic into those seats somehow, and space pirates is not going to cut it. And any animated show that is neither Disney nor Ghibli doesn't stand a hope in hell, as was so tragically proven with Kadokawa's majestic failure "Momo e no Tegami (Letter to Momo)". A great, Ghibli-esque movie which opened at an unheard-of 400 screens and completely flopped. As for Gatchaman, I haven't seen it, but I was on set and read the script, and that does just suck plain and simple.
  4. VF-0S doesn't have four, either... FAIL
  5. It seems those are slightly different because now they include sleeves to keep your covers, too.
  6. Yes, modelling careers are tough.
  7. I meant finish the little ones you started years ago. Although since I see you kitbashing 20000y Mospeadas, clearly there IS precedent...! So where did you end up buying the cloth? Full disclosure -- Alex and I went to Akihabara the other day and maximized our gaijin embarassment levels to 1 million by asking the attendants in high-end doll shops for tiny tight-fitting costumes.
  8. Thanks! I actually realized that I was looking at the wrong thing -- I have to take the Minato-mirai line from Shibuya, but the station I change at is not Minato-mirai itself, so I will not be seeing the valk in the end. Oh, well.
  9. That's looking pretty good! Most surprising of all to me is the speed -- I've never seen you work so fast on a custom!! (Hint -- FINISH SOUND FORCE!!)
  10. I have to change trains at Minmato-mirai tomorrow so I guess I'll pop over and take a look at the valk again. Apparently it has more details now than the first unveiling in Ikebukuro?
  11. I don't know why they removed the collapsing panel (though I assume it's cost-saving), but that is nothing new. The indentation has been there in all of the M7 VF-19 types Yamato released. The engineering on this toy is basically the same as those, apart from the cosmetic changes to make it look like a 19 (with the exception of high-speed mode). To be honest the gap doesn't bother me -- it did a little bit in the prototype photos before the VF-19kai came out, but now I don't mind it at all.
  12. Another new pic: https://twitter.com/TKR1009/status/368704005351821312/photo/1 I see a boom mic. Oh, and a giant robot!
  13. This week's issue of "Pen" magazine has a special feature on Star Trek, its history and influence in Japanese popular culture, entertainment, science and technology, with Shoji Kawamori as one of the interviewees. http://www.amazon.co.jp/Pen-%E3%83%9A%E3%83%B3%E3%83%BB%E3%83%97%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B9-%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%BB%E3%83%88%E3%83%AC%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%81%AE%E9%AD%85%E5%8A%9B%E3%82%92%E6%8E%A2%E3%82%8B%E3%80%822013%E5%B9%B49-16%E5%8F%B7%E5%88%A5%E5%86%8A-%E9%9B%91%E8%AA%8C/dp/B00DMYBREE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1376375899&sr=8-4&keywords=pen
  14. Hmm... I wonder where that background is from originally.
  15. Aw, man. RIP I used to teach at Kyoto Seika University, too, and I think I met him briefly. It's so sad, but recently we are really losing a lot of pioneering animators.
  16. They were supposed to be shields for Sound Force. Docker and Emerald Force were actually rivals to Gamlin's Diamond Force guys.
  17. I'm quite sure it stopped many people from getting every single one of them, myself included. I'm not saying completists do not exist, but they are certainly not the majority.
  18. http://www.toei-video.co.jp/BD/orguss.html Update -- It will include the Orguss 02 OVA as well! November 1st release; 49,800 yen (52,290 tax incl.) Will also include the two Orguss Memorials. No word on inclusion of the bonus feature materials for Orguss 02 which came on the rental editions.
  19. Looks like you guys had a great time!
  20. Mister K did not give details but he has hinted it will be reassuringly expensive. Look at the price for the VF-1S reissue. Do not be surprised if we get slapped with an astronomical sum.
  21. BS overload. "How did you make sure the old and new footage flowed together?" "Well, that's our job!" "I know, but I mean visually!" "Oh. Well, that's the animators' job." Jeeez.
  22. Nah, I'm positive it will continue. They just have to get the logistics worked out regarding where it will be serialized.
  23. Yeah, but Evangelion (and Gundam) are far more prominent than Macross. Anime fans know about it,but not many other people, unless they are men in their early 40s (because they grew up with it, and robot anime was more mainstream then). Younger anime fans know of it because of Frontier. I recently spoke to a 20-something who is not into anime at all (and thus has not been exposed to Frontier) and he was like "Macross?... Yeah, is that the one with the robot planes?" I was actually impressed with that, but clearly that was the extent of his knowledge.
