  1. For the record, I do think May'n is a great performer! Regarding the episode lengths, this is the way I see it: there is little that can be done about length unless we completely change the format from a "people talking in a room" to "people talking on skype" scenario. The latter would allow us to do shorter episodes, once a week or every two weeks. However, I believe we all feel that the Skype format would make it into a different thing entirely, and so we don't want to go down that road. Unfortunately, because we cannot arrange our schedules to meet in person every week (and because we wouldn't want to burden Tochiro with giving up his every weekend editing), one episode every two months is the only doable thing. Unless there is something else which I haven't thought of (like splitting the episodes up into chunks and releasing them once a week? I don't know if Tochiro would be interested in that).
  2. If it's the same as on the VF-19 (and ALMOST everything else is), then they are the tabs that lock into the lower chest module when in Fighter. They do not connect to the forearms because in Fighter the forearms are positioned lower along the legs.
  3. WHA' 'BOUT HER STAR?? WHAT 'BOUT HER STAAAAAaaaaaAAAAAAArrrrRRRRGGGHH???
  4. http://edition.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/bestoftv/2013/10/31/ab-anthony-bourdain-parts-unknown-tokyo-1.cnn.html Anyone a fan of Anthony Bourdain's travelogues? Granted, Japan is not exactly the "weirdest" place to find Macross, but I thought it was interesting that a Sheryl Nome figure was pretty much the very first thing you see in this promo. I can't believe he misread Kabuki-cho as "Kabuchiko", though.
  5. Well, we have been talking about it for over four years and there's even been a pinned thread here since, like, forever: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=31952
  6. Well, the quality is questionable these days as cost-cutting techniques have risen, and KO's can really match the quality of the real thing rather well these days, as far as TFs are concerned. Conversely, Yamato/Arcadia stuff is so much more complex that it may not be worthwhile for the KO companies to even attempt. As far as I know, the "second run" is not intended for the Japanese market and so I'd be surprised if it did show up in those places. Same goes for the Masterpieces that came with Commemorative coins, and special display cases, and the "Year of the Horse Specials" etc. Like it or not, the market is much bigger now in China etc., than in Japan.
  7. The reissues use a darker green colour than the originals, so they look almost black. The first issues are unmistakably green.
  8. I can't find any tweet where he said it was going to be whiter than or white like the DYRL valks. I can only assume you are getting confused with the content of the 21:06 tweet on the 7th, where he says "This is not about the 19, but the subsequent DYRL VF-1's are all going to be white, in accordance with everyone's opinions."
  9. I can't imagine you can do very much with a mono master. It sounds clear and crisp to me, though, on par with the Macross set (save for the audio for the episode previews, which are lower quality, again, just like the Macross ones). No subs.
  10. And the other 35%? Do I need to talk about Orguss 02 and MANNING POWER?? He can be very persuasive.
  11. The box says it is mostly Linear PCM Mono (2ch), but notes that some portions are in Stereo. The Bandai releases said they were Stereo, but I think it was a trick -- that's probably why they changed the opening song to the album edited version, to justify the Stereo label (just a guess). Sneaky.
  12. Oh my god, I forgot the most important (depending how much of a nerd you are) thing!! So, back when this set was first announced, some guy on Amazon.jp was commenting that the show had never been properly released with the original broadcast opening sequence -- the Bandai Visual/Emotion releases on LD/VHS/DVD all used an alternate version of the Casey Rankin song which was edited from the album version. The original broadcast, though it was the same song with the same arrangement, was clearly a different take. I had only ever heard this version on the opening to the Memorial videos and on the Drama LPs -- I thought it was specially recorded for those products, but thanks to this guy I put two and two together and concluded that this was in fact the original broadcast opening. Well, this set finally gives you the show as it was originally seen, with the original opening. And that includes the arrangement of the handful of episodes that had a pre-opening short introductory sequence -- something which was repositioned to *after* the openings for the Bandai releases. If you miss the short edit of the album version of "Sky Hurricane", you can still find it here on the bonus disc, since it is used as the BGM for the "Overseas Version Opening". This opening was used for the US Renditions dub in the 90s. I just got this set, so I haven't seen everything yet, but if I spot any more changes/differences, I will post them here.
  13. By the way, these are not screen captures -- they are photographs I took with a crappy phone camera. Looking at them on a bigger monitor screen now is making me realize that they do not do the Blu-Ray images justice at all. The remaster is absolutely glorius -- much, much better than the SDF Macross one and on par with the Macross 7 and Yamato one. Just like those, it's like you're watching the cels on the screen. The cases are nice and have that smooth matte classy package quality to the texture. The booklet might not be as thick as I wanted, but they did take the time to interview Mikimoto (who doesn't seem very excited about this show at all). Unfortunately, I would have also wanted to hear how Miyatake saw his brainchild 30 years later. The extras are OK, it would have been nice if they had included the vintage commercials for the toys. Also, it's a shame (though expected, since the distributor this time round is Toei, not Bandai) that the "Making of Orguss 02" extras are not included. The two "Orguss Memorial" episodes are not remastered. (Though they are the highlight of the bonus material, having not been available since the 80s). Finally, the box art. It looks very nice indeed, though the number of characters here highlights Mikimoto's current hit-and-miss style. Some characters are drawn beatifully, and some look rather odd. The strangest thing is the omission of the title mecha itself. What the huh? I dunno. The Orguss 02 is there, though. If nothing else, it is great seeing both the original and the sequel characters together for the first, and likely last, time. Except for Athena. Again, what the huh?? Overall, yeah, I love the show and I am very pleased to finally own the definitive set. With this and Macross 7 on BD, I feel like I now no longer need to buy another anime DVD or BD ever again (I will probably just conentrate on tracking down the LDs and VHSs I missed). "See you, Space Fanboys!"
  14. The price has been a "solid" Y52,290 for a long time now (although most places are offering rather significant discounts). It's out today.
  15. Thanks for doing this! It's interesting to see all this now in retrospect. Especially concepts like the "Asteroid Cracker", which returned decades later for the "Macross The First" retelling. And didn't the Caspian Sea evaporate in Orguss instead? I guess the Blu-Ray later this week will jog my memory! And #50: "The genius falls"... Heh. What a different franchise this would have been.... Edit -- Machu Picchu is Inca, not Mayan (yes, I know you are just translating what is in the book, Gubaba). I had a conversation with Kawamori about this once, so clearly he is aware of it these days, but obviously not when he was 20 years old. However, though he has travelled around the world, he said he has yet to visit there, although it is definitely on his list.
  16. Great to hear from you as always, and it's awesome that you have your own channel now! BTW, do you have "Heavy", directed by Noboru Ishiguro? I almost bought it once but missed it and only now I realize how rare it was. Here's the back cover, it looks like one of those really crazy OVA one-offs. I also want to check out more long-lost treasures like Maryuu Senki, etc...
  17. The opening is in 35mm since it needs to be re-used and have the titles superimposed (which cause degradation); everything else is on 16mm stock, as was standard for the time (cost-cutting measures). If you watch the creditless opening included on the Extras disc, prepare to be well and truly blown away: that thing is clean as a whistle! The thing I'm wondering is, was Macross 7 shot on 35mm? It looks absolutely spotless, literally. Cowboy Bebop was made four years later and that looks grainy as hell on BD (though differing restoration methods could be in effect).
  18. Oh, dear god, they've just hinted that a Mylene bass might be next...!
  19. Those are fantastic!! These came in the mail the other day :
  20. I hope it all works out. I very recently got the Laserdisc box sets, so I'm watching those right now, oldskool style!
  21. Yeah, you are correct, it is "Macross7" molds, not "seven molds". I don't want to get into a translation argument either, so I'll just leave now.
