Godzilla, check out this thread for answers to your query on the 20th anniversary DVD

What?? Mao is ELEVEN?? Sara SIXTEEN??? Bloody hell, I knew the M0 designs were crap, but that's just made them astronomically piss-poor in my view. Bad enough Roy looking OLDER than his SDF Macross self. Next they'll reveal Shin is a girl.
-
Yeah, during those scenes, the original version features jaapanese subtitles. These were removed for the print of the "Super Spacefortress Macross" dub, wherein everyone just spoke in "English". Unfortunately, it was very bad English. That version was later butchered about and it became the "Clash of the Bionoids" release in the US. Phew! We in Britain got both versions full-length, though.

The reason M7 is so...er, "controversial" is that Kawamori didn't "visit" it in the first place. He set out the main ideas and story, did a few designs with Hal and Miyatake and then carried on with MacPlus and Escaflowne. I blame Tetsuro Amino for all of M7's annoying repetition and cheesy directing. Had Kawamori or Shinichirou Watanabe taken the mantle of directing M7 we'd have a show which everyone would agree is kickass. With a Flashback update, Kawamori could put M7 back on the map. Mikimoto already played a big part in making it cool enough with his few scenes in the excellent D7 opening.

Accuracy of internet based translation tools
Renato replied to Shawn's topic in Movies and TV Series
Here is what I got: "We are giving away some items as we rearrange our warehouse. Here is something which we got from a Macross collector about 10 years ago. It is a set of a Max-type Valkyrie with Armored System included. It is a non-transformable Valkyrie, however it features a gimmick in which the fuselage can be lowered to reveal the cockpit. While it is cheaper than one the 1/55 series, its lower production count means that as far as collectability is concerned, it is a rarer item. The main item is in good shape having been taken out of the box once, but the box itself is in a bad state. Please be aware of this. We intend to use a Yuu-Pack for mailing." I left out the "yoroshiku onegaishimasu" near the end, though. Too much formality. Oh, BTW, Shawn, I'm sorry, I never finished the Kawamori interviews... I was too busy, er... trying to graduate <_< Anyway, I got a few done, I saved them somewhere. Do you want me to post them on the board or email them? -
Yeah, FB2012 is cool... BTW, the Japanese title of the song is "ai wa nagareru". It is a kind of closure to the original open-ended series. It would also be cool to see a new updated version of Flashback featuring Fire Bomber, since Mac7 was equally (if not more) open-ended. How about Flashback 2048??

It's a shame about that... Apparently at least a first draft of the script got made, but it would have been nice if we had been told what the movie would be about, so then at least we could have the fun of fanboy speculation.... Although I had also heard it would be a DYRL remake... Hmm. In truth, the longer they leave it, the better it should be interms of effects when it (and if) it does get released. What with the live-action Transformers movie in pre-production, CGI has come a long way since Final Outpost was originally proposed back in 1994. They just need to have a good story, and that means Kawamori and gang MUST be on board 100%.
-
For most of the running time of DYRL, the Zentradi are not speaking in Japanese, they speak in Zentradi. I'm guessing the subtitles are differently coloured to denote that.

Yeah, I've never seen Armored Valks flying around in the atmosphere in any animation or episode, but they can be spotted trodding along on the ground in various scenes and illustrations, the first one that comes to mind being the VFX2 opening.

Bootleg DVD Cover Artwork and Mecha Graffiti
Renato replied to kazuo's topic in Movies and TV Series
Why, how did they spell it? Because his name is spelt "Kakizaki" -- which means that it might be you who is spelling it wrong, man... -
It's 13. And I wouldn't say it was crazy, if you think about it, it kind of makes sense.

Bootleg DVD Cover Artwork and Mecha Graffiti
Renato replied to kazuo's topic in Movies and TV Series
Kazuo, bootleg or not, that is the same box art for the 3 SDF Macross box sets in Japan. And yes, they are by Mikimoto. They cost a damn fortune, though. -
The intro to M7 is inaccurate. You'll notice that Basara stands on the roof of his apartment building overlooking a green and a lake, somewhere in City 7. What the hell is this?? Basara's building is supposed to be in Akusho, which is bolted onto the side of the ship. They just fixed it to make it look cooler. It worked because it does, but it is still inaccurate.

Dude, the Eiffel Tower is in France, not Italy. Get out more. (The difference is that Yoshi would smack you around if he read that... Where is he gone, anyway?)
-
I'll have to differ with the status quo, I don't feel that the DVD should have been released on its own in the way that it was. There is just not enough to guarantee a purchase unless you are REALLY a die-hard fan. It's basically a DVD of trailers and ads. I mean, you don't buy a DVD movie like Spiderman and then expect to pay for a bonus disc with featurettes as a separate purchase, do you? Had they re-released a 20th anniversary edition of DYRL with THIS as the bonus disc of special features, then I'd have hailed it as a great move by Bandai Visual, and a must-buy for anyone who is either a fan or who is just getting interested in Macross alike. (By the way, yes, I do own it, and yes, I am a huge fan.)

I guess the VF-4 and the VF-2 were both at some point "standard" fighters, i.e. cannon fodder. The 19 and the 22 on the other hand were special (and expensive) fighters reserved for either special missions or selected elite squadrons, as seen in Macross 7. But I do agree that the VF-2 looks nothing like 80 years of evolution on from the VF-1.

Switching to Devil's Advocate mode for a while: is there, or is there not, at least an Eiffel Tower in City 7?
-
Basara cares for Mylene, but at present still sees her as a kid. The whole thing ought to be thought of as a "future" love triangle, which will come about a lot more vividly once she matures.

The Macross II english-dubbing is still one of the most horrible english-dubbing ever done in all of anime. You will most likely will hate it when they made Ishtar sing the "Mou ichido - love you" song in English. Talk about tragedy and travesty. Better re-watch it in japanese-dub subtitled-form. The japanese-voices clearly are infinitely better and gave the series some needed decency. --treatment-- All of the songs were in japaniese with english sub, I dont know why this was, but none of the songs are in english. Also, when the Zentradi spoke, it was in japaniese with sub's. This must be a diferent version? Don't be silly, Billy. When the Zentradi speak, they speak in Zentran. Did you not "get" the whole point of the scene with Hibiki, Ishtar and the translator-earring thing?

To the people who say there were only seven protodeviln (and yes, this IS the correct spelling, I before L, hence "DEVIL", and thus "EVIL").... True, but that doesn't mean that there were only seven Evil units. There could have been more that didn't get posessed and the possibility is there that the AIPHOS or AIFOS or whatever is one of those. Just the same as how I used to think (and still do, actually) that the Natter-Valgo was just a Valgo-type Evil series unit which the Protodeviln used for a bit in The Galaxy is Calling Me. It wasn't possessed.

Except that it's still just a fansub, and they themselves seem to have been confused on the issue. Not submittable as law Whoo-hoo! My first post in about 10 months! Please bear with me while I familiarise myself with the new boards. OK, lucky for you people, I recently watched that episode again by coincidence (whilst fixing some of my old chewed-up tapes). It is the episode in which Gavil awakens, and asks Gepel, "Who are you?" To which Geppers answers, "It is I. I currently reside in this man's body". And you know what? I thought the quality of the PsyCORPS subbing is excellent, not that it matters because there really is only one way to translate "KONO OTOKO". So there you have it, straight from the Japanese script, Geppie-Nietchze is a man. Submittable as law! Although I think I agree with Roy Focker's view that he's probably got hormone issues. Strange thing is, though... Ivano Gunther never came back... Gepelnitch took off at the end of the series, still in his body. Huh.
