  1. Yeah, Thomas Romain did the spaceship designs. Bahi JD's work is so distinctively dynamic that that is why some people earlier in the thread thought the episode he directed was animated by a different studio. His work on Kids on the Slope is also distinctive because I believe he handled one specific scene (the school festival performance, IIRC) and you can see the change in style within the episode, which some people thought was jarring. Space Dandy basically exists as a platform for a wide variety of artists young and veteran to show off their talents and creativity. If you love the art of animation, this is a show to keep an eye on. The staff list for the next season has been revealed, and it is basically a list of the hottest animators right now. Of most interest to Watanabe fans is that Toshihiro Kawamoto of Cowboy Bebop fame is back!
  2. Cool! I have a Dreamcast which I have used for all of 4 minutes, just sitting in a drawer. How is this going to be sold? Is it only through that online store? The official website only mentions a NeoGeo version, I can't find any reference to the DC version.
  3. Actually, since I'm here, I would like to ask a question. The instructions mention that the missiles inside the leg bays are removeable. Does anyone know exactly how to take them off? They seem pretty stiff and I don't want to pull in the wrong direction. Sorry if this has been answered before. I haven't been checking this thread very often (even though I started it, heh).
  4. There is a non-vocal BGM-only version for karaoke on the second disc of Macross The Complete, but I am not sure if that qualifies. If you want an instrumental with the melody, too, I don't think that has ever been released. Same goes for My Boyfriend is a Pilot, My Beautiful Place and those songs which we hear as instrumentals in the show. Having said that, there are instrumentals of Runner which have been released with a completely different arrangement, but again, is that what you are looking for? There's a jazz version that was on the Jam Trip album, then there is the orchestral version which is part of a larger medley in the Rhapsody in Love album.
  5. I got mine a few days ago and I totally understand your sentiment. Mine has pretty loose ankles now, much more so than the VF-19F that I bought back in March (which I have transformed MANY times since). That, and the wing/hip connection in battroid is a little looser than I would like it to be; it still stays in position, but I don't know how long it will last. None of the other 19s I have (and I own every iteration) have such loose wing connection joints. Lastly, the Fast Packs are rather flimsy, which makes transforming into Fighter a real pain in the neck. I have the old 19 and that is a much smoother transformation. I wasn't going to get one because I felt that the old YF-19 was good enough even if it looked lanky, but I took a chance and yes, while it is a nice toy, it does have its issues and they will probably worsen over time. The other VF-19s are definitely better in pretty much every respect. That said, I am more partial to those to begin with just because I prefer the cleaner, sleeker, sharper design of them, so there is probably a bit of a bias. Arcadia, I'm begging you, do something about those damn ankles.
  6. Boy, you guys have short memories! This is Mari-ja, every five years he comes on MW to petition for a continuation to M7 involving Lynn Minmay, and in all these years his posts have never been any more than unintelligible. And Seto is right, I remember seeing the petition page and the Japanese version was awful, too. Good luck!!
  7. If you're on the fence, and you don't already have a 19, I would totally recommend it, if not this one, one of the older releases. In my opinion, the 19 mold is the greatest Macross toy ever made, ever. It is a dream to handle. I found myself getting every iteration so far, and I generally as a rule do not buy repaints! The 19Kai also features the most gimmicks.
  8. Not to rain on xstoys's parade, but it has been known that these "existed" for a long time. In fact, it's been on the MW main page for 15 years. www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/_bandai_redcover.htm
  9. I literally just got my YF-19 yesterday, brand new relatively cheap (Y25,000), so they are still readily available as far as I can tell. I don't know if this release will be the same, though. One thing is for sure -- I can see them being more available than anything with the words "Bandai" and "Ozma" on them, though.
  10. Yes and no. The bonus disc is a Hybrid Disc. What that means is that it has video footage (interviews, making of the 1/1 VF-25, some Super Dimension Seminar, PS-Home concert footage, etc.) which is playable on any type of BD player, but it also has extra interactive content which is only accessible with a PS3.
  11. ^ Yeah... There's a story behind the translation of that line of dialogue.
  12. Yeah, there is a pinned thread for discussion on the podcasts in the Movies & TV Series forum. Other than that, you can email SpeakerPod[at]gmail. What specifically did you want to hear/know? The next episode will also feature some Tenjin talk, as well, though (concerning his appearance on US TV), so there is something to look forward to.
  13. Actually, it seems to me that Bandai is sort of playing catch-up. Bandai wanted NOTHING to do with Macross for the longest time, and even when the Deculture edition was still in production (and I think maybe even after it aired in December 2007) I believe Bandai was not yet on board. It was not until after the Deculture episode proved the potential of the show that Bandai came around. Why else would Bandai have put their B-team (Boys' Hobby Division) on the first VF-25 Chogokin design, which ended up being total garbage, instead of the A-team (Collectors Division), as they have done for these new products that are ONLY NOW coming out five years after the show ended. Bandai had ZERO to do with Macross Zero (aptly, haha), and whenever Yamato brought out a new VF-1, Bandai woke up from its slumber and churned out reissue after reissue of the 1/55s. They still have not made a full Chogokin of the Aquarion Evol figure. Bandai has had decades of not giving a crap about Macross and until very recently its releases tended to be reactionary, to capitalize on a market made lucrative by competitors.
  14. I was browsing the latest issue of Dengeki Hobby today and although the price for this piece is still TBA, they do warn you to "start saving up", so that's quite a hint.
  15. Oskull -- Takatoku, who made excellent and immensely popular toys, went bankrupt for a reason.
  16. It was a limited edition Family Mart (convenience store)-exclusive edition of the 1/72 Messiah kit.
  17. Oh, wow, they even have the pink shirt Basara version from "Deathmatch on Planet Rax/Lux"!! I'm getting pretty excited... but fear for the price... Removeable intake covers would really be nice, but I don't expect it to happen. However, I really wish they would do those pink inner panels on the inside of the Sound Boosters in transluscent plastic, like the Hi-Metal version.
  18. Yeah, I thought Global's marriage to a Japanese lady was pretty common knowledge, even though it wasn't mentioned in the show, because I figure that people who know he is Italian probably read it on the Compedium, which also mentions his wife Miho.
  19. Haha, called it! I don't see how they are not in scale, though. They look in scale to me.
  20. I just noticed, that even AFTER installing the enormous Hybrid Disc data onto the PS3 hard drive, you STILL have to put the physical disc in, otherwise it doesn't want to run! Screw that. Personally, I only bought this thing for two reasons: 1) the Play-View function was intriguing to me, and 2) "Support the franchise" -- I don't need the subtitles, but we need to send a clear message to Bandai and BigWest that there is a lucrative international market out there. But in my personal opinion it was not worth the double dip. If this is your first purchase of the movies, and don't have any of the artbooks, this is a great set, plus English subs! If you already have the previous BDs and can understand Japanese you don't need this.
  21. I only put the first movie on for a couple of minutes to check. The movies are fine, I already had them, that's why I wasn't concerned. And the subtitles are perfect, as we have been saying all along on the podcast.
  22. First impressions: The Play-View function for PS3 on the Hybrid Disc is just BS. 4GB+ installation that takes forever?? And when it does finally load, it's mostly just content that is already in books (like the lineart, layouts, background art) or things which should have been in a book instead (like Ryusuke Hikawa's writings).
