The real deal with Harmony Gold and DYRL
Renato replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Movies and TV Series
Oh, OK. Sorry! -
... Koko wa soratobu PARADISE...........
-
They're manufactured in China, like everything else. The ones sold here in the US are made by Hasbro, with Hasbro's own color schemes. Other than that, they're all Tomy's creations. The Tomy color schemes, usually look a lot nicer, too. Oops...what i meant was if they were manufactured FOR SALE in the US, making the staff think they were not Japanese. Even if so, the MPCs definitely are, so obviously that alone is not enough to make the staff think they are not Japanese.

The real deal with Harmony Gold and DYRL
Renato replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hey, Keith, where do you get your info that Tatsunoko was responsible for those versions? Oh, come on. Here are just a few of the ANNOYINGLY persistent mis-truths about Macross which always pop up on these boards and I'm fed up of correcting. * "Animefriend" staff can't draw. * "Tailfin missiles" are an animation error. * Nobody knows what happened to the Megaroad. And of course, "Tatsunoko were only involved in the making of the original show". Here's the truth, fact fans -- Tatsunoko and Animefriend were the main production houses for DYRL, boys and girls. I don't often show off, but I've been to the Tatsunoko studio, so I know what I'm talking about. Even if you don't believe me, just look at all the proof. Look at production credits, look at the storyboards look at the production cels (they got TATSUNOKO PRO stamped all over 'em). But as far as contracts are concerned, Studio Nue, Big West and Tatsunoko had to sell the international distribution rights in order to get the bloody show made in the first place (Studio Nue couldn't pay Tatsu, so they outsourced the production of some episodes, but they STILL couldn't cover the costs). But I don't know if there was such a transaction regarding the movie rights. I would've figured the success of the franchise would have reimbursed SN and BW enough to fund the Tatsunoko production of the movie themselves. This is why I think HG are being PARTICULARLY "dickish" this time round. Oh, and for the record, BW are almost as bad as HG in money-grabbin' terms, when in the early 90s they went ahead and commissioned for that abomination, Macross II, to be made, since they wanted a sequel with or without Kawamori. It's funny though. If BW hadn't gotten MacII made, Kawamori probably wouldn't have come back to Macross. NO MACROSS II = NO MACPLUS, 7, ZERO And this one's even better, check it out: If Tatsunoko hadn't sold the international rights, there would have been no original series. NO ROBOTECH = NO MACROSS = NO ROBOTECH The vicious circle. -
Hey, what happened? Why does Kamjin_Prime appear "Unregistered" now? Did HG get him??
-
Well, I think the "lake" was originally the barrel of the Grand Cannon, right? So, yeah, it's pretty darn deep.

I don't think the Low-vis was as limited as people think. The only thing about it is that people tended to buy it BECAUSE they read on the box that it was limited and thought that it would be rare soon. It's a perfect case of R. K. Merton's "Self-fulfilling prophecy". By no means is the Low-vis production any more limited than Bandai's Max and Millia 1/55 reissues.
-
Well, I guess at the end of the day we are the buyers and we'll vote with our money. The Queadluun Rau looks good and all, but I'm sorry, Yamato, there's plenty of other things I can be doing for the extortionate rates you're charging for that thing.. No Queadluun Rau or any more Yamatos for me. Until the VB-6, that is.
-
I am not talking about that. I was referring to the price that Yamato decides on, i.e. before it reaches retailers, much less overseas outlets.

Very true. The dollar is weak vs the yen right now. There was an article I read in the paper awhile back stating that Tokyo is the most expensive city for Americans to visit. London was second. Yeah. Bloody Tokyo. Bloody London. Yeah, but to be fair, only the marginal "otaku" areas are really pumped up in price. I mean, check out the OAVs, they're Y4000 or Y5000 for 30 minutes of crap. DYRL is an unbelievable Y8000!! Meanwhile, regular MAINSTREAM movies will not be more than Y3000, often double-disc and with extras. I suppose it boils down to the fact that we are dealing in the fanboy zone where people will pay whatever price they're asked, something that wouldn't normally occur in the mainstream. You could argue that Macross shows its relative unpopularity by its unjustified prices. Slightly more recognisable brands such as TFs and Dragonball toys which are more affordable in contrast.

Yes and no, it's supposed to be "Fat bottomed girls" and the subtitle of this topic is the next line of the lyrics.

PRICE TALK. OK, so let's go back to 1999. Here I am, reminiscing about how cool it would be to own all those old-school Transformers and Valkyries, but the price for these antiques was sky-high (which I could kind of understand since they are vintage items), and the prospect of reissues seemed so far away from reality. Then Yamato and Toycom announce Macross Plus toys. I was shocked. Really, I didn't expect that (especially considering we were tallking about a 5-year-old liscence by that time, which had up to that point shunned most kinds of merchandising). Now, price-wise: Y6,800 I considered it to be a little steep, especially after import tax and shipping. But we can appreciate the value in the quality of the workmanship, and there was a lot of die-cast content, in particular in the case of the Y/VF-19. Now, slowly but surely, prices began to rise with the introduction of the 1/60 VF-1 line. Y7,800 became the standard. And now we have the 1/48 line -- a toy almost totally devoid of die-cast parts, but which has enough features so that even Macross fans who have been collecting the 1/60 line will purchase it. Now, I'm a Macross fan, but I'm heavily doubting the worth of the 1/48 in terms of money. There is no way that I am getting my Y15,000 worth of toy there. Not to mention that I only really start to properly appreciate the 1/48 when it's set up with FAST packs, which means by that point I am holding a Y20,000 (at least) toy. I can't even imagine a toy worth that amount of money. I mean, back when I was a kid, the more expensive toys were justified in their value by being either really big, or having many electronic features, or both. Even then I don't recall seeing any toys worth this much. As shocked as I was when I initially saw prices for old-school diaclones and takatoku valks in the late 90s, I am shocked now to see that this high-pricing trend has become THE NORM for NEW toys. I bought a Masterpiece Convoy the other day. My friend (who has no interest in toys) was shocked that such an expensive toy (Y7000) existed. I didn't tell her about the 1/48s, though. This brings me to my main point -- this general trend for expensive, adult-oriented toys aside, why are valkyries so bloody expensive in comparison?? Masterpiece Convoy has a removeable shining Matrix, plenty of in-built features, sturdy joints for extra poseability and "lastibility" and weighs a ton because of its die-cast content. Yet it's half the price of a 1/48 Valkyrie. WHERE IS THE EXTRA STUFF I AM PAYING FOR?? It's getting to be a more and more expensive hobby by the minute.... I think I'm close to trading in my member's card. I mean, Chougoukin Tamashi Dancougar for Y19,000?? Are you sure it's not carved out of GOLD?? But at least you know you are getting Die-cast Galore with Chougoukin.... I don't think I'll be buying any more 1/48s. I have two, a low-vis and a Hikaru VF-1S, plus an FP set. I think I'll just stick to Binaltech TFs (and the good ones, not the crap ones like Hound) until the Koenig Monster comes around. I'd appreaciate any views on this price-justification issue.

The "kai" designation is not unofficial. On model kits that is what it is called (As well as "Fire Valkyrie"). 1/100 Bandai VF-19Kai box art It can be said that all three ("VF-19 Custom", "VF-19Kai", "Fire Valkyrie") are "official". Kai and Custom are the same in any case.

There are references to the Enterprise and other such stuff if you look closely at monitor screens sometimes on the SDF-1 bridge.
-
Ooh, pretty. Would you mind doing full scans of each of these (or at least the best ones), please oh please? I've always loved the old school Macross illustrations.
-
CD 3 of Macross the Complete is a collection of unreleased tracks, so I doubt it would be on other CDs.
-
Why would someone post a thred and use that type of word "Ask your mother". Do you ask your mother to buy your collection? Be more respectful of other members on what you post. Yes, it also goes posting on new members post. The new member could easily be someone who is in his 30's or maybe in his 20's and can take your word as an insult. I don't think you've read the thread from the beginning. The main problem Prometheum has is that he can't convince his mother to get him all these different scale Valkyries. Shin Densetsu means no disrespect at all.

That flaw is present on my Hikaru 1S, but it's very minimal. Not enough for me to worry too much about. On my low-vis, however, the wings are aligned just fine.

MACROSS PLUS MOVIE EDITION JAPANESE GOOD OR NOT?!
Renato replied to isamu-ad's topic in Movies and TV Series
Much like Transformers The Movie, yet I still hear fans asking for a widescreen version of that. That was made tv aspect? Strange, but it does make the fact that there are no widescreen versions available make a whole lot more sense. From what I understand, the UK release is widescreen, but artificially so. They are missing part of the picture, obviously. No, the UK release is not widescreen. Not sure how this rumour started, I've read it many times, but it is not true. -
Please note that I am neutral in this particular argument, though I am quite enjoying reading the responses. Here are some things I just remembered; I'm gonna throw some fuel into this fire: There's been no floating rocks in M7, but compare this: Episode 2 (end) / 3 (opening) of M0: Sara, while levitating the rocks, also makes flowers bloom. With this: Final Episode of Macross 7: Basara makes the bunch of flowers bloom. Also: M7-- The Galaxy is calling me: Fire Bomber and the Doc Chiba conduct an experiment to see if they can make sunflowers turn. Of course they fail (because Mylene is crap), but Emilia's voice makes them move slightly. I can't really explain how the "dimensional irregularity" is caused, though. Also, Basara was convinced he could make the mountain move, though I always just thought that was a manifestation of his strong willed character rather than him actually having an ability to move rocks. However, you never know, maybe he had some power similar to Sara. None of this is actually my opinion since I haven't thought about it properly in my head, these are just things that may or may not be linked, or may just be coincidedces.

Of course I remember!! Who doesn't?! (How old do you think I am..??)
-
Well, think about Hikaru's VERY FIRST appearance in SDF Mac. That's him showing off right there.
-
Wow! That TV Max looks AWESOME. Power to the Chunk. Power to the 1/55s.
-
Unfortunately, Bandai hasn't reissued the Strike Valkyrie. And even if they were to, Bandai being Bandai, there's no guarantee that they would include the Minmay figure.... Sigh...

OK... Hehe, as I skimmed this page I read that as "I have finally decided to join the mafia"!! YES!! Best. Post. EVARR!!
