The Official Yamato VB-6 Monster Thread
Renato replied to Montarvillois's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I think that technically, there's no obvious reason why the railguns shouldn't be able to fire in battroid mode. However, it's just not very practical to do so, as in Battroid mode the 4 railguns can only point straight up. There is no hinge mechanism like say on the Strike Valk to allow the cannons to hinge downward and fire over the shoulder. However, it may be possible that in Battroid mode, the railguns could be used as mortars in the indirect fire role . Graham uh, how about the kick from the rail guns will knock on its ass. Anways, we talking about something where A back flap flips up and apprently thats where the gun mechanism goes, talking about sci fi things realistically is pointlesss, coz at the end of the day it isnt. Hella koo toy anywayz But do rail guns have that much of recoil? They seem to -- in the VF-X2 opening movie the monster fires and gets pushed back quite a distance. -
OK, but you provide the monkey. Anyway, what about Gradius, or even Defender? Those were better games. A. You're talking to the president of the "I fartING HATE THAT CHEATING BASTARD GRADIUS!" fanclub. Any game that can become LITERALLY impossible to progress in if you die at the wrong moment is an automatic failure in my book. As tiny a change as starting with one speedup as the default speed would make it playable, but as-is I hate it. Maybe interesting sidenote: I LOVE Salamander, which is a Gradius spinoff. B. Gradius NES version came out a year later. The diffrence between 85 and 86 games on the NES is massive. We went from Super Mario 1 and Gyromite to Dragon Quest, Metroid, Zelda, Castlevania, and yes, a port of Gradius. 86 was when the system picked up steam and all the good stuff really started happening. With the exception of the single most packed-in game in history, all the games the NES is famous for are 86 or later. The 83-85 games are totally forgotten, with the exception of Super Mario 1. C. Defender is debatable. It certainly deserves credit as the father of the scrolling shooter, but I find it too complex for my tastes generally(though I've had a fair bit of fun with it at various times on various systems). I like my shooters simple, and never grew very attached to the 2-way scroll playfield, or the humanoid defense. You were EXPECTING anime accuracy from a Famicom game? Though I think it's clearly a version of Space War 1's final battle, reinterpreted to make a good FamiCom game as opposed to a good animation sequence. Many people would, especially in 1985, when gamers still understood the simple joy of an endless game that was a mere test of skill, with no measure of progress but the score. The ability to progress towards an ending was an arcade innovation created EXPLICITLY to force good players off the machine. People could play for hours on one credit on PacMan and Space Invaders and Asteroids and whatever else you can think of, including games believed to be so impossibly difficult that no one on Earth could last for 4 waves(the original Defender)so the developers had to think of a way to limit play time that WASN'T reliant upon the player dying. They did it by adding timers and autoscroll to rush you along towards an ending that was unavoidable. Many gamers at the time resented this, actually. Super Mario Bros. succeeded for 2 reasons A. it was a pack-in in America. Free games are almost always good. B. it had Nintendo's mascot in it. Mario was a well respected name from the arcades. Donkey Kong had birthed him, and Mario Bros. had given the world a worthy competitor to the legendary Joust(which Miyamoto has admitted he was actively trying to imitate). Yes, it's fun. But it's not THAT fun, and I wouldn't have paid 50$ for it. Certainly not when I could have Donkey Kong Jr., Dig Dug, Bomberman, Elevator Action, or the original non-super Mario Bros. In fact, if I'd bought it in 1985, I would've been expecting an upgrade to the original Mario Bros., and been quite disappointed. And in my opinion it's a fine little video game with the added advantage of having a Macross license attached to it. OK, then. By the way, not to go OT, but there was a Salander anime out a few years back. Haruhiko Mikimoto did the character designs!

Aww man, I was about to ask you whether I can get those or not Between, is that P-Chan in you avatar? Dunno it's just a cute piggy I found on google. Just a reminder of Eugimon's super office get away technique I experimented with this week. Looks like the design on Solberg's Subaru Impreza's wing mirror. Check out TF Alternator Smokescreen. -
OK, but you provide the monkey. Anyway, what about Gradius, or even Defender? Those were better games. Hell, I wasn't even talking about it being good or bad from a TECHNOLOGICAL stance, I meant it from a creative point of view. It's got nothing to do with the show. Blow up the main core reactor? Wha? And the repetitiveness does bring to mind the "arcade formula", but this ISN'T an arcade game, in which you pay a 100 yen coin for a few minutes of fun, it's a home system game. That's why Mario succeeded, because you have PROGRESS. Who would pay full price for a game that's the same all the way through? Anyway, in my opinion, it's a kind of "so bad it's good" type of thing. Just like Transformers Headmasters is funny because of the laughable dub, so this also has its bright side.

Remastered Cowboy Bebop with 5.1 DD audio
Renato replied to Drad's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's out -- the box set, that is -- and it looks VERY NICE. Check it out. http://www.bandaivisual.co.jp/dbeat/bebop/index.html Click on "Release". Every disc is packaged in a unique case, one's in the style of a Beta tape, one's in the style of a can of film, another like a Blue Note album. Even one like a Playstation 2 game! Still not worth 42,000 yen, though. For that price they ought to include a live Welsh Corgi. No subtitles either, and audio commentaries are only featured on three episodes. Next, music CD: TANK! THE BEST OF CB -- Everyone must get this. Three new tracks. Only Y2000. Liner notes translated by Jonathan Clements. You know you want it. As for the extra session: It's gone from 30 mins to 90 mins! Yay! -
Again with this crappy game. Honestly, a limbless monkey could have made a better game. Here's what it should have been: Minmay Attacks... YET AGAIN!!

The text doesn't refer specifically to the valk, it just says that you can get your fix of the week's new release info and other Yamato news on your mobile. "DON'T MISS IT!!! DO IT NOW! NOW!! CHECK IT, YO!! LOL!!!!11" and other crap like that. Bleah, I don't need two exclamation marks after every single sentence. Damn Japanese marketing.

Yeah, it would be enourmous. Think about it, it'd be bigger than twice the size of this one. I got my monster last night and I must say, it really does grow on you, like Graham said. Pun semi-intended (to keep up with the direction this thread has taken). Haven't put any stickers on yet, although it is interesting that they have both white and yellow/orange eyes on the sheet, as well as both VF and VB stickers. I think I might put some on, not really bothered if it isn't canon. On another note, the two tabs/prongs/things were showing some stress whitening before I'd even finished transforming, which means that they were like that whilst in the box. I took tons of close-up pics, but it'll be a while before I can upload them. In the meantime, here's one from my mobile: -
I just got the game yesterday for Y2000, I played it for a while last night and it's not bad. Up to now the best I had played was VFX2, and I like the way this has a training mode which explains everything very simply. Also, this is the first time I have seen the head lasers actually incorporated into gameplay, that was cool. Last night I got up to completing the space fold level. I will be busy for a while though, so I won't be able to have a go on it in the near future.

That's the closest thing you're gonna get, I suppose, but the Figure Oh feature is still just a 15-page or so thing, not a full volume deal like the TF books. There are several things missing in the article, too. Then again, there are a hell of a lot more TF figures than there are of Macross.

The way I saw it was that the market was flooded with VF-1's at the time, so Bandai's old designs lost out to the newer Yamatos. Bandai then decided to hold off the rest of the reissues. Now that Yamato has ended their VF-1 releases for a while Bandai might be thinking that it's time to bring out the rest of the 1/55 line. They can't be that stupid and think that the Elintseekers, etc. are not gonna sell. Or can they..?

I think it's around Y15,000, last time I checked. -
Kawamori really left me with a bitter taste in my mouth after the appalling Macross Zero, so nothing here really grabs me in terms of plot or visuals. However, I'll watch it because of the Yoko Kanno music.

Damn! This is the first time I think Windcharger looks cool. There are still two things I don't care for, though: The fact that it is ANOTHER red car; and the fact that I don't care much for the S2000. So, will the BT version feature the long-barreled gun or will it be gutted like the Alt? -

Yay! MPC Monster!! Thanks for the review, Graham. I'm currently in the countryside, so I'll get my Koenig as soon as I get back to civilization in the New Year. This part scares me a bit, though: (From Graham's Review) How much will this affect transformation? I must say, the worst offenders as far as Yamato QC have been the YF-21's shoulder sliders and the VF-11B's hips. The 11 was an easy fix, though, so it's really just the 21 which I'll never forgive Yamato for. Mine is still lying in a box, completely "armless, mate". As long as nothing that bad comes up, I'll just be happy I finally have a Koenig. One more thing, though -- Graham, you say the legs can't bend backwards, but we saw a pic posted last week or so of one showing the knee-bending articulation (which caused some people to cave in and decide to get the toy after much hesitation). Which is correct? -

Blegh. You're not the only one who sees that Guyver-ism in there, and that annoys the hell out of me. In fact, this whole "show" is an affront to G1 fans everywhere. It puts the final nail in the coffin of the "how Gundam-y can we make the Transformers?" issue. These designs are total crap, suffering from extreme munchkinism in that the designers decided to throw as much garbage as possible onto these machines. I muchly prefer the simple, clean elegance of the G1 designs. I downloaded the movie, and I agree, it sucks. Will probably still watch it if it's on and I'm bored, though. Not likely, though, since I only managed to watch Superlink like, what, once or twice. What the f*ck is with that guy who keeps yodelling?? Jesus, try my patience, why don't you.. -

Check this out. The label above indicates a "mystery piece", which, according to the article, hides a kind of small missile or something, and is even hinged. However, it does not move much and the author thinks that it may have been a gimmick which was canned afterwards. The lower one points to a tab which on the instructions and the package photos is depicted as facing backwards, yet on the actual product faces forwards, resulting in the legs not locking properly in shuttle mode. Is this why on every pic I see of the shuttle the sides are "hanging" instead of being straight? Good luck getting Yamato to answer anything before the new year. Oh, dear. -

According to that article, the eyes and UN Spacy symbols are stickers. There are more stickers, but there are no instructions as to where to place them, a la Macross Plus VFs. -
I think Dogfight is better in part 4, because it fits with what's going on on the screen, the way it builds up to a crescendo like that. Besides, I got sick of hearing the other tune in EVERY action scene. Anyone noticed how, disregarding the English dub, the Japanese dubs of the movie and the series are different? It looks like the actors re-did all of the dialogue from scratch, even the lines that remained the same. It's interesting to compare the two, as some scenes are acted out differently, and some lines are stressed more than others.

Its a sticker from a music CD.... Really? Which one? I have almost all of the M7 CDs and I've never seen it. Must be a Chie Kajiura or Tomo Sakurai album.
