It was weird seeing all those monster-type enemies. I wonder if we'll see some hand-to-hand fight scenes, too, later on.
-
Well, supposedly there are only three of those in existence, so unless there is an off-chance of someone putting up on Yahoo Auctions those pics are all we'll ever have.

It would look *cool*. Might as well ask why bother having a plane turn into a frickin' robot. Oh and by the way, there are new pictures of the GBP in the latest issue of Figure Oh (the one that comes with the Cutie Honey figure). It's looking real badass with all the missiles in place!

Oh my god. I totally forgot about that. This is gonna look so STUPID on the low-viz! Ohhhh MaaaaaaaAAAAAaannn!!
-
Yeah, there are a lot of Esca similarities. I particularly thought that they'd pulled another Escaflowne on us at the end of ep. 2 when Aquarion turns all black.

I would have thought Macross Zero would be the "Macross of the new millennium, literally". Anyway, episode three didn't do much for me because of the comparitively sub-par animation and the annoying new characters. And that scene with the girl's heart almost blowing up was kinda gross. Seeing the blue robot in action was pretty cool, though. Look out, mummy, he's got a sword! Swooshie!

I love it. Even if something similar appeared in a magazine before, it's still very original. I especially love the way you've framed it using the design of the Protoculture memory plate from the movie. Nice touch. Best diorama I have seen in a long time.

El Bumpifico. So, we're well into the second half of April... Where is this book?

Well, 4 OVA eps. at 35 minutes cannot fit into one 115 minute movie. They cut some stuff out, but they also added/replaced a scene or two. The story is the same though. I thought that the OVAs only came out dubbed, while the movie only came out subbed (I am referring to American releases here). So if my memory serves correctly, things should have sounded pretty different between versions, but not because it was redubbed. OVA came out both ways. Movie was japanese only. I thought he meant the original dialouge recording. Yeah, I mean the Japanese dialouge. I don't think the movie had an English version anyway. Yes, definitely. I am not sure why this had to be done. But I'm willing to guess it's something like the actors weren't gonna be paid enough to just do a couple of new lines for the extra movie scenes, so they had to do the whole thing over again.

The Yamato 1/48 toys come with the Budweiser and Octopus stickers ready to place on the micro-missiles so you can recreate that scene in perfect detail. However, the label design they used for the toys is the more modern one which differs from the 80's version as appears in the movie, so it's not exactly 100% accurate, but if you're gonna be anal about THAT...

So, who managed to see this? It's better in terms of style and overall mood than Aquarion, in my opinion from what I have seen so far, but again with the "I'm a kid destined to be the pilot of a powerful special robot and gonna save the earth." And the robots do in fact "surf", as I feared when I first saw the designs. And they transform into Galaxy Force Megatron / Cyber Formula cars. Good thing is that there is no cheesy transformation sequence nor screaming of attack names, they just do it. Anyway, check it out. http://www.eureka-prj.net/

Sheesh, now ya tells me! Well, I'd still feel kinda ripped off had I gone ahead and bought it. Although, I agree it's a good song. In my opinion, the acoustic version totally murders the original pop-py version, it's excellent, though a little too short. Good stuff.

The first pic you posted is nothing but a mish-mash of different illustrations and would never be an official cover for D7, so it's definitely a bootleg. I wonder why i says "and Movie", though. My bet is it just has the four D7 episodes.

Fire Bomber 2005 - A Tribute to Nekki Basara
Renato replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Movies and TV Series
No, because it's only a Basara tribute. Besides, if there was gonna be a performance of Mylene's songs, they'd have to get Chie Kajiura not Sakurai. And yeah, I know they got the actors to sing in the past, blah, blah, but I'm sorry, I thought they sucked like J. Edgar Hoover. -
Fire Bomber 2005 - A Tribute to Nekki Basara
Renato replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Movies and TV Series
It is a concert tour and a CD. I mentioned it about a month ago back in the last Macross 7 thread, but somehow the topic mysteriously became centered around homosexuality. Check here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...pic=9322&st=220 -
Exactly. The two renditions of the GBP Armour look different mainly because of the vast differences in the proportions of the Battroid Valkyrie that is encased inside each one.

I liked that, it's pretty funny. The worms kinda make me sick, though.

Niiice. You da man.

Apparently CD Singles were given away with the (pre-booked?) tickets for the MacPlus/7 movie back in '95. I recently found one (the only time I've ever seen one in real life) a few months ago but the asking price was like Y3500 or something, and I wasn't gonna pay that much for just a single. Don't remember the content of the CD, but it may have been the acoustic versions of My Soul for You, Totsugeki Love Heart and Remember 16. The reason I am not sure about this is because that would leave Macross Plus unrepresented, but maybe they threw in a version of voices in there. I'm sure it would be more helpful to ask Valkyrie about these kinds of items.

I'm assuming of course you mean the R1 releases. However, I think vol.2 came out quite a while ago..? I remember seeing it about a month ago. The R1 releases are much better than the Japanese ones because you actually get twice the content, at half the price. Plus you get that nifty collectors box thing.

Here you go. Macross Suite ========= 1- Four Seasons 2- Story 3- Breakfast Table 4- Street Corner 5- White cloud of memories 6- Sanguine (or "Scarlet") Tears 7- You are my Everything 8- Too young 9- A Star avenue 10- Three Hearts I'd like to hear this album, too, actually. Unfortunately, I don't think I've ever actually come across it, but I read a review of it years and years ago in Animerica or something... Hmm. I think (could be wrong) this is one of those Macross albums which, along with Snow Falling in the Milky Way, was issued only once on CD and is now hard to track down.

Thank you for all the scans. I appreciate your effort. I remember last time someone scanned an entire book (DestroidsRage scanned the Mac Hobby Handbook), I never saved the thing into my files. Now I'm really sorry that it's no longer around. Anyway, thanks again for providing us all with insights into this elusive book!

Well, the original announcement was that there would be both a bundle and a stand-alone pack, but now I'm not so sure.

Man... The icing on a cake-ful of let-downs.

Saw the first episode of Aquarion last night. Maybe it was because my expectations weren't particularly high, but I thought it was GREAT! ...For the most part. Animation is top-notch for both the CG and cel art -- blows the hell out of Macross Zero in terms of cel-animation: smooth, life-like movements which blend perfectly with the CGI. Also, I'm starting to think Zero was a kind of indirect introduction to Aquarion... Maybe that's just me. It seems to me that Kawamori needed a base to start his main Aquarion project, and he just used the Macross licence to form that. Now that is done, he can expand on the main themes explored in M0. Of course, this is just pure speculation since only one episode has been screened so far... we don't know how the show will turn out. But alas... It's not perfect. The story, setting and style reeks of Evangelion and it's very easy to just dismiss this as a Getter Robo for the 21st century (as some have already done). Most of my pet peeve cliches are present here: 1) Hero Kid can handle the main mecha better than anyone else even though he is getting in it for the first time. 2) Triumphant J-Pop in the background as the main mecha destroys the baddie. 3) Slow, zooming-in-and-out, pose-y transformation scenes. 4) Screaming out the main mecha's or weapon's name before striking a pose or rushing forward and attacking, with a backwash of colours. 5) Magic. Lots of it. ("Floating" from the top of a building into the mecha's cockpit, etc.) Pfft... There's more, but I won't go into it. Let's just say that it's the best damn show on TV at the moment, but that just says how bad TV anime in general has become. Bottom line -- EXCELLENT for what today's anime is; SO-SO for what today's anime ought to be. I'll try to watch this one every week.
