  1. We talked about it, long story short: as I recall it's not a new master, it's an upscale. The included booklet is not a translation of the one in the Japanese BD release. Short story even shorter: Everyone should just get the Japanese BD release. It's got English on it, and it's even being reissued soon for the 20th anniversary, along with the M7 BDs.
  2. I don't think this is made to order. And in any case, it comes out this weekend. We can assume they're all made and ready to go.
  3. I don't have that set, but from all the discussions I have seen here, while the cracks are definitely worrisome.... I don't recall hearing that anybody's discs were ever rendered unplayable. But it doesn't hurt to have precautions.
  4. I got Wheeljack yesterday and he is fantastic. There are some really cool engineering marvels happening at almost every stage of transformation. This MP car line is totally blowing everything else out of the water. Binal-what?
  5. The new official Blu-ray set of the movies are region-free and they have English subtitles. Start by watching those, then you can rant all you like. At the moment, you might as well be saying "THIS SUCKS 'CAUSE IT'S ALL IN JAPANESE!" Also, I'd like to note that am amused by the irony of such a hate-filled post demanding a proper love story.
  6. No, the earlier prequel chapters have have already been put out on tankobon. I think it's been at least a year since the last "new" chapter was published. That said, I will probably just wait until the 6th tankobon is published, as I have no interest in reading comics on a computer screen. Actually, just did a quick search and Volume 5 came out on my mum's birthday last year (2013), March 22! Yeah, so that's a year-and-a-half wait.
  7. Glad you're enjoying it dude!
  8. Seems to me like "Third Party" can refer to Bandai, Yamato, Arcadia, Hasegawa, or T-Rex or Experten, etc. equally as much as the ones making the SD-SDF-1 since none of them are the owners of the Macross intellectual property. The only distinction is, did they pay for the license or not? If not, then, for clarification, let us call these "unofficial" or "unlicensed". EDIT -- Adding a few more points: I don't mind making a dstinction in terminology from the TF fandom's usage of "Third Party", because in their case, the first party producer is always going to be TakaraTomy. In ours, technically it's BigWest, since they own the IP... but BigWest itself is not the one putting out the products, they just sanction them. If your Bandai VF-171 breaks, there's no point in phoning BW. So there's a different dynamic here and I think Newtype78's point is valid. I would go further and suggest that News items etc. involving these products should use terminology like "unofficial", for accuracy's sake, and avoid terms like "Third Party" altogether, as they're somewhat disingenous. Usually I'm not a stickler for little things ("BUT IS IT CANON?!?", oh god why), but in this case I think we should not get into an attitude of "oh, you know what we mean".
  9. VF-ZeroS: The show is better than SDF, in my opinion. Really interesting characters and relationships, plus an intense build-up to a cathartic climax. SDF might be better in terms of mecha action choreography and realistic designs, but Orguss constantly looks interestingly imaginative.
  10. Kaldar5: The silent forgiveness scene is theere. The original cut of the movie ends after Misa's monologue and Minmay's "1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2..." count, as the spotlight dims on her. Then the credits roll. Everything after that scene in later cuts is new.
  11. Well, since we're wishing, I want a VF-11D Jammingbirds Valkyrie, and Macross the Ride variants. If not, then a re-release of the VF-11C will suffice.
  12. I got my second 19F a few weeks ago, too!
  13. Welcome back! However, one of us has a very iffy memory, it seems, because I certainly don't remember making any Super Ostrich conversions... I did make a Sound Force Phalanx about 12 years ago, though...
  14. Akt_m: That is called "Ota-gei", a performance dance by otakus. You will see them at anime/idol-related events. "Embarassment" is really an alien concept at this point in the evolution of otaku culture.
  15. Hiroko Kasahara talks Macross II http://animeanime.jp/article/2014/08/06/19725.html
  16. I've always wondered how big the overlap is of fans who complain and complain and complain about some aspect of engineering on these toys, or some aesthetic thing that they take issue with as we talk endlessly on speculation threads before release, and fans who when they get their toys, just leave them in the box, or transform them *once*, or never at all. I would be very disappointed if I found that a sizeable proportion of the complainers just leave their stuff in a box.
  17. Jenius -- Just to be sure, I am not simply making assumptions, I do have reliable first-hand sources for what I wrote. Oh, and welcome, Sleepy042
  18. Actually, I posted this in the earlier pages of this thread. It was Tatsunoko who sued BW first, and were granted ownership of the film of SDF Macross. BW and Nue countersued and received ownership of the designs, allowing them to produce derivatives. If we take a look at the time-frame, circa 2001 Tatsunoko had had no involvement with the Macross franchise since 1984 or so. So, what would have made them want to confirm their ownership in a court of law, something that is nowhere near as common in Japan as it is in the US? It is not a coincidence that HG was trying to kick the RT franchise into high gear and needed all the rights issues cleared up. There's some arm-twisting going on there. I would say it is Tatsunoko who is the puppet of HG, not the other way around.
  19. Ah, I thought it did. I realized I have the special edition...
  20. Just 5 days till retirement... (*sad saxophone*)
  21. Three on each disc, with one audio commentary on Ep 1, and another on Ep 6. Disc 2 also has bonus materials like creditless OP & ED sequences and rare audio stuff.
  22. Yep, just checked. Tatsunoko took Nue and BW to court claiming ownership of the copyright for SDF Mac back in 2001, which they won as copyright holders of the SDFM film itself. Then Nue and BW started a different trial to get the ownership of designs cleared up, which they won. Then Tatsunoko tried to claim ownership of all other sequels, which got thrown out of court. Japanese companies are not known for being particularly litigious, unlike US ones. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that this was most likely HG pulling the strings behind the scenes. I know this topic is about the Kickstarter and not the court hearings, but the guy in the Youtube video is misinformed and if he is reading this thread, hopefully this helps. EDIT -- Btw, I'm checking Japanese sources.
  23. I didn't watch the whole thing, just skipped every 10 mins or so and watched a few seconds. But he describes the whole Tatsunoko vs. BW lawsuit thing as having been instigated by BigWest. I thought it was Tatsunoko who took them to court. I'm going to need to check my info...
  24. I agree with Duke Togo. Drones and stealth fighters appear in pop culture often, it's nothing to get bent out of shape over. Please do not overdo it with the bashing, this is HG we're talking about, they don't need us to make them loook bad, they're doing a bang-up job themselves. It just makes us seem childish. Seto, for a guy who claims he "doesn't care", you seem to be the most vocal person on this thread. By all means continue posting, but saying you couldn't care less when in fact you appear to care enough to have almost single-handedly kept this thread about three guys with a reputation and a kickstarter campaign at the top of the page for the last couple of weeks just seems odd.
