Here's something interesting. Take a look at the version of the Macross opening they've used here. The last scene of the opening animation is different. Instead of the shot of the VF-1J transforming, there is one of the Daedalus attack. And the production cooperation credit is given NOT to Tatsunoko and Animefriend, but the Yoyogi Animation Gakuin instead (who worked on Macross 7). I've never seen this. Where did it come from? Was it used on a rerun, or only on some episodes animated by Yoyogi (didn't know there were any more animation studios contracted for Mac; just Tatsunoko, Animefriend and Star Pro, the Korean one which did all the crap episodes like Millia's wedding).

Jesus Christ. This is seriously f*cked up. I did actually find several Japanese blogs and stuff in which the Japanese fans felt "betrayed" by the new SS design (in particular the hip things), saying it should've been THS Starscream if they were gonna change it so much. I own the Spanish one. I believe it is identical to the Japanese release and it is not a bootleg since it says Bandai on the box and on the toy. Missiles and springs in the gunpod are all there. However, the one difference is that while in Japan it was packaged in two separate styrofoam trays (one for the FAST packs, one for the valk), the Spanish release has just one long tray in the box. Oh, and the instructions are in Spanish.

Apparently there is a scene in the movie where Scorponok rises out from below the desert and stabs a human soldier then drags him back under with him.

Because in an attempt to be "fair" to the international community, FIFA gathers referees from around the world, including some countries which are unlikely to parttake in the World Cup. They are not professional referees in their home countries as they cannot make a living so. Meanwhile, many European referees who are experienced professionals are bumped out in favour of others from lower-profile countries for the sake of variety: in other words, it is not necessarily the case that the BEST referees in the world are being chosen. In fact, though I think there is no rule on this, the trend is now that only one referee per country is chosen. So now you have all these inexperienced refs running about. So far, this World Cup is record-breaking in that it's had the most bookings ever. In the Portugal/Netherlands game alone the other day 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards were given out. So far in this tournament, 25 red cards have been brandished in total. The yellow card amount? 291.

There was something funny about that referee from the very beginning. Notice how he let them play on after Italy dribbled the ball over the edge of the pitch, thus negating Australia a throw-in. I think it's about time we did away with refs and just let the boys in the editing suite decide the free kicks and penalties.

Crap!! Godammit. That should NOT have been a penalty. Italy let me down in 1990 when Roberto Baggio sent that ball flying to Jupiter on the decisive penalty shoot-out, and now when I root for the underdog Aussies they go and do this. They weren't even playing that well, for god's sakes. Oh, well. Guess I'll cheer on Switzerland from now on. Funny how the last thing we were talking about were the "it was all an act" players and now the Aussies are out because of that.

I have been rooting for Oz since the beginning, and seeing them fare fantastically so far is a great feeling. Although since I have Italian nationality as well as British I am a long-time supporter of Italy, thus next week is gonna leave me torn in two. I know it'll be an amazing match though. In that case at the end of the day there is no perfect package and you have to decide how you will part with your money. MACROSS PLUS MOVIE EDITION Option1: US R1: VHS transfer, hard subs. Option2: UK R2: VHS transfer, hards subs. PAL. Comes with the 4 episodes of the series included, which have Japanese/English audio etc. Dirt cheap. Option3: JapanR2: Better quality but still not perfect. No subs, stereo only, no selectable scenes (unforgivable), extras are trailer for movie and PS game, and illegible (because of small size) scanned version of the movie pamphlet. They all piss me off in their own way. But then the film itself pisses me off too, so...

As an aside, I think I remember reading in the compendium once that too much size-changing of zentradi and miclones caused some genetic illnesses or something and hence it was eventually band.

I have this DVD (R2) and I think it's a piece of crap, actually. It turns out there is no chapter selection option. Why? Well, that's because the entire film is just one long f*cking chapter!! WTF.... Yeah, the visuals may be slightly better than the Manga version and no hard-subs, but I would rather go for the UK Ultimate Edition since that has all the episodes in dual audio plus the movie all included in a package for half the price of the Japanese release of the movie alone. Not worth the money at all. I got it for Y1500 used and I would not pay more than that.

I have a Korean release of The Who playing the Albert Hall in 2003 and none of the extras shown on the box (interviews, angle changes etc) are actually on the disc. It's just the main show and that's it. I believe the US and UK releases do have everything.

I saw this on DVD a while back and I was astounded at the interlacing problems when I played it on my DVD player. Flicking through the settings made no change. I was very disappointed because it was a no-win situation: the VHS is blurry but moves well, while the DVD looks crystal clear but turns to bollocks when it starts moving. Then I watched it on a top of the range Epson projector and big screen... I dunno, I don't remember noticing that many problems then. That was last year, though. I recently purchased the R2 MacPlus Movie Edition recently and that doesn't seem to have any interlacing effects so I think it's just DYRL that's really bad. Then again, I didn't finish watching it to the end because MPlus is just really bloody boring to me now. I was literally falling asleep... "I'm not the same girl anymore!" Bloody melodrama left, right and centre.

I saw the movie last weekend, and I think it is a failure on many levels. For starters, it is totally the wrong way to adapt a book to screen, Like Mr.M said. What should be done is one should take the main elements of the plot and characters and re-translate them into a motion picture grammar, which is on the most basic level, worlds apart from that of the written novel. Again, refer to what MM said about having time to digest information, characters' backgrounds, etc. What the Da Vinci Code is, is just a summary of the book, word for word, skipping a few bits here and there. Thus, you end up with either of two negative outcomes for the audience: the people who have read the book will be bored because they know EXACTLY what's coming next (compare this for example with Macross TV and DYRL: the different portrayals of the same basic events kept the interest up); and the people who have not read the book will have no clue as to what the hell is going on. Not to mention that the characterisation is all but deleted in the movie version, leaving Tom Hanks as the most passive protagonist in recent film memory: OK, here we are in Paris, come to the Louvre, oh man, we gotta go to this bank, OK get on my plane, let's go to London, OK we're in Scotland now, blah blah. It's just him being dragged around Europe with no sense of what he is feeling, who he is, etc. Anyway, my advice is just ignore the film and read the book, lest the story be ruined. It's fun to read the book and try to solve the codes and puzzles the main characters encounter by yourself. I enjoyed it because it felt like, as I read, I was competing with them to see who could solve the riddles first. Anyway, that's my dos pesos.
