  1. How old is that song? Cos I saw Seamo on TV the other day and he was doing a duet with some other girl and her voice was really nice (maybe a new single?). It wasn't May'n, though, so I guess that derails this thread even further. EDIT -- Just watched the live Diamond Crevasse clip posted above.. man, that host is one condescending bastard. If May'n was anything like Sheryl she would have gotten up, torn the mic off and stormed out.
  2. I already said that in my first post! Good ear, but with the eyes, not so much, eh? Peh, couldn't even see the credits..... Just kidding. And yeah, this is on the original DVD releases, pre-remaster. No idea if the recent new releases include it. Why wouldn't they, though? er..

    Macross Revoltech

Nice. Wonder if there is any chance for a Glaug and Monster. Those might make good use of Revoltech joints.
  4. That Japanese cover is horrible. Here's the real deal: http://youtube.com/watch?v=b46d_zk5CKI
  5. Didn't care much for the episode. Too much stupidity. But the backgrounds were really lush. And you can tell that's Tenjin doing the Valk detail there on the VF-1, very nice. Funny coincidence. I was listening to France Gall's "Poupee de cir, poupee de son" on my MP3 player just before watching this, and right at the intro, Ranka begins to sing this carrot song which sounds ALMOST IDENTICAL to that song. Wow. Anyway, Yoko Kanno is always stealing some famous song or another (like that Pirates of the Caribbean one, and in Cowboy Bebop I always thought "Words that We Couldn't Say" was just Sting's "Shape of my Heart", etc...), but I mean, what are the chances that THAT ONE would be the one I would listen to just before watching the ep, huh? Anyway, yeah, that was what I enjoyed the most about the episode. I got really bored towards the end but I held on. Looking forward to the Sheryl Valkyrie.
  6. Yeah, but Yoko Kanno screwed up when she named it "Triangler".
  7. Er.... What?? It was many years ago that I read it, but I know I would have remembered any Minmay rape shenanigans. I guess my Japanese wasn't very good back then..? Gonna have to get ahold of that one again for sure, then.
  8. Jesus CHRIST. I saw that at the cinema and had forgotten EVERYTHING about it until I read your post. Even now all I can recall is that Sam L Jackson was in it. I cannot remember any other time that has happened... then again, that would make sense, I guess. Still, it's a pretty rare thing, so kudos to Shaft and its ability to be totally erased from memory in an instant. Yay!
  9. You can usually find them in the bunko section of Mandarake, for dirt cheap. The Macross Plus ones, on the other hand, I have searched for years and only seen it maybe once in an auction. Also, I think only the first of two parts ever got released?? Not sure, but I seem to remember there was some kind of issue there.
  10. But that was just a reference to the Daicon opening animation from 1983. Blame them instead. Actually, no... blame both.
  11. Well, that's what I mean, their "fix" was to re-dub the whole thing with a different cast. And the Lone Wolf, there are English credits on the R2 release, you just have to select some other option in the menu. Haven't seen it myself recently, but I do recall that Myung's voice may have been similar, so I'll check the credits again when I get the chance and report back my findings.
  12. White Reminiscences is a mini-novel, and My Fair Minmay / Dreaming Prelude is in TV script format. Are you sure you want to undertake this task? I have both books, but they are in the UK. I might find copies next time I'm in either Osaka or Tokyo, they are not too rare.... at least they weren't a few years ago, not sure now. Dunno about being able to scan the whole thing though. I will let you know if and when I get hold of them.
  13. On the other hand, I love the Koenig, it is probably my favourite Yamato. The arms do get loose over time, but you can stiffen the joints using nail polish or something. I did that and mine are fine now. The pegs that hold it together in Monster/Gerwalk mode do break off, that's my main gripe. Other than that, I had waited years for a toy of that design and even filled and sent in those questionnaires that Yamato includes in the boxes, pleading them to make it. And they delivered. No, the sculpt is not perfect, but I'm very happy to have one. If it breaks to the point of disrepair I will most likely not hesitate to get another. If Bandai makes one I will get one in a heartbeat. But I just don't see them bothering. As far as toys, the VF-25 and its variants will probably be it for any new sculpts.
  14. The "FANS" are not gonna be around forever, I was hoping this dub would introduce new audiences. "Won't someone please think of the children?!" But when you have lines like "Minmay? That little bitch?!?" uttered by Claudia, who ought to be the most mature of the cast, it's just a wasted opportunity. I don't have kids yet but I would want them to enjoy the show without having to explain to them all the Robo stuff. I already am going through that with my 8-year-old brother.
  15. That thing cracks me up every time. "The McRoss!! The McROSS!!!" And everyone is always livid with anger. In that clip, when Claudia says "That reckless KID?!!" she's pretty much angry that some chump took Roy's place. I'm glad that there are subs there, because then you can see that the line is really meant to be "that boy, huh..", said in a kind of melancholic fashion. I watched the Japanese version again just recently and that's how she says it. And in the Robotech version she says "Well, Roy would've liked that", which pretty much says out loud the emotion behind the original line. I hate to say it, but in terms of acting, RT was better. In terms of script, though, they're both bad but in different ways. I saw the final episode of the ADV dub last week (not seen them all though) and I was appalled. It's just random shouting and cursing! "Farewell to tenderness" indeed, I think they took it too literally! Hikaru: "Misa, you're alive!" Misa "GET YOUR ASSES THE HELL OUTTA THERE!!!!" Whoa. Edit -- to answer fifbeat's question: it's the ADV one.
  16. I'm glad this has been brought back up again, since it concerns something very interesting to me. The issue with episode 4 which Keith mentioned is one which I have struggled to find a good concrete reason for, but uncovered many strange rumours about. Anyway, I heard years and years ago that the master tapes for episode 4 were destroyed or something. So Manga had to re-make the soundtrack from scratch using Hollywood sound effects, and the BGM tracks available to them (hence no "Dog Fight", track 12 on the For Fans Only OST -- they used Breakout yet again). Meanwhile the Bandai Visual had been releasing the US dub with Japanese subs for the real hardcore fans on VHS and LD, but only up to episode 3. Episode 4 was never released in this format (only the original Japanese version, of course). I remember that it took Manga a year or more in between releasing episode 3 and 4. Now, when they began bringing out the DVDs of the show in Japan, I was surprised to see that they included the English dubs as well... Except when I watched episode 4 -- although yes, Keith is correct, they do have the original sound effects -- I realised that the CAST ha totally changed. Any fans of David Hayter from Metal Gear Solid? Yeah, well, Hayter or no Hayter, this is much worse than the original English dub of episode 4 so I just downloaded the old one. I'm wondering if Japan could not afford to re-import back the old dub of Episode 4? Maybe there are copyright laws concerning the added sound effects? Anyway, for whatever reason they thought it more affordable to hire brand-new actors and re-dub the episode entirely. Anyone know the specific reasons for Bandai's actions, and/or the existence of this dub? Egan Loo..? PS -- Yeah, the British release has both audio tracks, but only one for the Movie because that was never dubbed, maybe that's where the confusion began. Although seeing as it has been 4 years since the question was asked, I guess everyone's figured that out already.
  17. Which one are you guys talking about? There's two parts to this -- One is "1982" and the other is "1985". Note that this does not reflect the time they were made, they were both actually produced in the early '90s, but document the evolution of the otaku phenomenon starting at 1982 (Macross!).
  18. It was planned out as a 50+ ep series, but they cut it down to 26, then they extended it to 36. Hence the whole aftermath plot.
  19. http://www.macrossf.com/mechanic/mecha10.html Something I pointed out after that training episode was aired -- they are not Queadluun Raus, but Queadluun LEAs. I was ignored back then, though, so now I have a bit more evidence than just a Luca soundbyte. (BTW the Q-Raus are usually written クァドラン・ロー, while the Lea types are クァドラン・レア so you can note the difference.) PS -- I'm writing Lea instead of Rea just because a few of you said it was written with a "Lambda" in some magazine or other. It could very well just be romanized as Rea or something else entirely, we'll have to see the packaging on any kits that may come out I guess. But in any case this is the official name.
  20. Dammit!! I knew I shouldn't have bothered. Anyway, for what it's worth, here: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26156
  21. Yeah, and the difference is even less subtle in Japanese. The first batch of M7 episodes clearly say that "the New United Government was established in April 2010". Because in Japanese, 「新統合政府」 (New United Government with capital N) is not the same as saying 「新たな統合政府」 or even 「新しい統合政府」 (new United Government with a small n). Much less ambiguity. It's the difference between saying "A new United Government was formed" and "The New United Government was formed", and in the Japanese it's pretty clear that she's saying the latter. So my question is... what happened with that? We basically have already had the "NUNS" since 2010.
  22. Yeah, but didn't the annoying narrator of Macross 7 in every one of the first few episodes explain that the "New United Government" was formed in 2010 after the defeat of the Bodolza fleet? When they integrated the Zentradi into Earth's culture. I always found it weird that for a while it was supposedly canon that during SDF Mac = UN Government; then after ep 27 = NEW UN ..... and then they forgot about it. And now in Frontier suddenly it's "New" again?? What's new (pussycat, whoo-oohhoo-hhoh)??
  23. Here it is on Amazon. It's got a Tachikoma on it. http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%A2%E3%83%8B...3012&sr=1-1
  24. Goddammit.
  25. Yeah, but don't forget that Hase had reprised the role of Hikaru in 1996 for "Macross Classic" just before he passed on. And note that he was replaced by some random guy for that PS2 Macross game a few years back.
