The Megazone 23 Garland By Yamato Thread
Renato replied to Renato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
He-hey!! I got a Factory Garland a couple months ago, and yesterday THE SHOULDER BROKE........... on the Shogo figure. Are the people at Yamato just going, "Well, I don't care, we're having breaking shoulders ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!!" Bleah. Since Shogo sucks anyway as a fig, I often used other figures like RT Revy and a plain (no character) Microman female figure. The Microman one even fits inside in robot mode. I think the legs have to be just thin enough. So I thought about buying some character Microman figures, but there were none I particularly liked. Then recently I found that they have new Lupin III Micromen out now, so I was wondering if they would work. Since they're a bit expensive, I'd like to know before I buy... does anyone have a Garland and one of the new Lupin or Fujiko Micromen, and if so, could you check if it fits in the cockpit? Long shot, I know, but it would be perfect, especially for Fujiko. Thanks in advance!- 1056 replies

Thanks for the link. Still, a great achievement for an anime OST -- it beat out huge acts like Weezer, The Beat Crusaders and Minmi all on the same launch day. I'm impressed!

Oh, well, that makes it OK, then. "Hey, that guy's racist!" "Yeah, but racism's been around for centuries, man. Let it go." "Oh, I see, no problem then."

Yeah. Now I know how all those otaku felt back in 1982 when the first SDF Macross album came out. "WTF?? 'My Boyfriend is a Pilot' isn't on it??!! Gah!" What wasn't on the first Macross Plus album that was in the first episode or two, though? That whistling song when Isamu is smashing up the simulator?

I've been searching for Chie Kajiura's albums for years.... Gave up long ago. I have a couple of singles, though, and she certainly does like her 70s psychedelic groove thing. Agreed with the Formo track. Her voice sounds great, beats the Sheryl version.

OK as great as this OST is, I'm really disappointed that the "Next ep preview music" isn't on it!! Or did I miss it (I've only listened to it once through so far)...? Oh, well, roll on the next album..... Apart from that, mostly AWESOME tracks here. That opening track (Frontier 2059) is amazing. Infinity is my favourite Sheryl song; Ranka gets a bit shafted, I could have done without the Nyan-nyan and Ninjin songs, though Aimo and What 'bout my Star are great.

Hey! This ain't NarutoWorld, you know!! Yeah, I'm sure most of us know The Right Stuff. Besides, if I quote that same post of yours here: and here: ... I think it's you who sounds as if of a younger mindset... Kids today...!! Only joking

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, got buried in all these new posts here. I can't for the life of me remember what book it was in, but Fukuyama did mention in some interview that he just sang the M7 songs naturally, but that they weren't written originally for him so that they would be in a style he wasn't used to, or something like that. Afterwards, with the songs he composed himself like My Soul for You and Starlight Dream he managed to find the right balance. But I recall he had issues with Seventh Moon, or something... As for Get Free, well, that was a good five years or so after M7 first aired and Hummingbird had moved on musically since then anyway. Even if you compare it to Hummingbird songs around the time of M7, they rock harder, because that's the kind of album "Unsweet" was, and that came after. So yeah, if by "acting" you mean that he had to make his voice fit the particular arrangement of FB songs, as opposed to singing on his own HB songs (which he had control over the arrangement of), then yeah, I guess you could argue that. But that has more to do with the feel of the particular arrangements of each song, rather than him having a "Basara" voice and a "normal" voice. This is most obvious when you compare the songs which have both Fire Bomber and HummingBird versions.

Er... what about the GIANT ZENTRADI singing Enka?? Enka is about as American as Cowboys are Chinese. And don't mention Shanghai Noon.

Google "Camilla Parker Bowles". Interesting analogy...

Nice. Here's the real deal though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBC4uFbbYhE&NR=1 I've been to a number of his shows and I've never seen him this.... high.

I would think she would just sing naturally, rather than "act" while singing. That's the way Fukuyama always did it, anyway. It just so happens, for example that some of her other songs have her sing deeper... Personally, I prefer her deeper voice, though her falsetto in the ending theme is nice too. Thanks for that Nico Video clip -- I've heard that wedding song before, didn't know it was her, though. Also, check this out -- http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...jp-22/ref=nosim Is that a cover of Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" as a B-side?? Damn, I wish Amazon Japan would let you hear samples!!

Exactly. If it wasn't for the rape and fanservice, I'd have no problem with D7. As it is, it's a disappointment, as it ruins an almost perfect show. With Frontier, though, it seems like EVERY EPISODE is a Dynamite 7.

Lost treasure trove of Stoudio Nue mech designs?

Well, that's Kawamori's signature on most of them (the little squiggle). Nice, I haven't seen most of these before. -

Wow, I had no idea the presentation was so awesome. Beautiful stuff. And a nice touch with the Tenjin-style (I guess it's him) illustration of the Fire Valk cockpit. -

Over at tfw2005.com? Anyway, that scene was so whacko that I was screaming "What?? Huh???" throughout the whole thing and missed all the dialogue. And I was starting to think "Well, I guess I can live with tha..." And then she slaps him AND THE ROBOT IS STUNNED, SHAKES ITS HEAD AND RUBS IT WITH HIS HAND. At that point I screamed "WHAAAAAT??!" All the way through the commercial break. -

Damn, double post. Anyway, I liked the episode except for two things, that gesturing vf, and the random Mikhail and Alto fisticuffs. Lame Luca. Oh, and I dunno why, but I really didn't care much about the whole sister backstory, I found it a bit boring. Overall, interesting developments all round, back on track after last week's pointlessness. PS - They FINALLY explained the whole Mikhail/Michel discrepancy, "Michel" is only used by people who are really close to him. Right when Alto screams at him to shoot at the VF-27, he says "Michel" for the very first time, which means he is forgiven and has been accepted as a "friend" by Alto. -

This doesn't really answer your question but the styling is very similar to the warp gates seen in Cowboy Bebop, and Kawamori designed the theory behind those, too. Remember that in that show, the moon was destroyed due to some kind of gate accident; I was reminded of this when Ozma said that the official explanation of Ranka's parents' death was a fold error. So maybe he wanted to retcon the fold system in Macross to make it more similar to his more real-world (plausible) rendition of hyperspace used in Cowbop. However, I agree with the issue of relevancy, this sounds like it will play a key part in the plot later on. -
There sure was. There was that novelty single from Suuchishinn or whatever they're called (they're really popular amongst the people that count: middle-aged-to-old ladies, little girls, celebrity-obsessed teens, etc. and were no.1 for a while because of their overkill promotion antics -- mini concerts and talks all across the country, guests on every TV show, etc, not to mention the very reason for their existence: their popular "hopelessness" on TV quiz shows); the mighty newcomer Superfly was also there, and she's just brought out her first album about two weeks which is still top of the charts and the limited edition version which includes a DVD is already sold out everywhere (bastard scalpers); and don't forget B'z also brought out a new single about that time, plus it's their 20th anniversary so they're selling like there's no tomorrow. Even though they still suck after all these years. So I don't think it's fair to say there was no competition, it was pretty stiff. It would really surprise me to find that there are that many to make such a huge influence. There's a new Yoko Kanno CM album out right now, but I don't see that flying off the shelves, or even stocked very abundantly, there's only a couple of copies per store. And no, I highly doubt it's because they all sold so well that there's none left. Please show these figures, I'm very interested and somehow hope to document all this. As for the OST, well, anything's possible. The data may or may not be there to show good sales... but either way one certainly cannot notice this from the total radio and PR silence coming from the Macross camp. All I'm saying is that the "popularity" as can be deduced from the charts (since we don't have sales figures) does not correlate to the lack of publicity around the country. Why aren't HMV and Tower Records stocking loads of these CDs and setting up huge displays like they are with, say, Superfly or even Perfume? It seems really strange... And checking on Amazon, in their top music bestsellers the Diamond Crevasse single was the No.1 or No2 top seller (pre-orders count, apparently), with Triangular also in the top 5, can't remember where. Bz were in there too. And if you look at it now -- http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/music/ref=sv_m_3 -- The OST album is right at the top. It's currently beating Amie Namuro, Perfume and Bz. Diamond Crevasse is still on 16th place. It's... weird.

I think so, which is why there are so many novelty singles and they all do really well... I don't really see the OST album breaking out over to the main J-Pop charts. Having said that, it still boggles the mind as to why and how this single managed to get so high up, since many stores didn't stock it, and in the individual store charts it often isn't listed, not to mention the almost total lack of promotion for it. It certainly doesn't help that MacF is on at ungodly hours of the night, so who even knew about this song before even considering to buy the single, let alone actually find it in a shop and make a purchase? As it's an anime CD, it seems the production run is smaller than mainstream singles, so if the chart is based on sales, then there's a limit to how high this thing can go. I mean, in Akihabara it sold out in the first day, I read in 2chan. There's something funny going on here.

Yeah, where are all these people finding all these leaks everywhere?? I can't find any.
