Macross Frontier News Thread IV *Read 1st post*

So.... Sheryl Nome may be related to Sara and Mao after all?? Goddammit, Kawamori!!! Just wonder what he's gonna put into the BD editions of M7 and SDF... -
Well, if we're gonna talk about its actual origins, we have to go all the way back to the designs for Kawamori's "Knights of the Sky", the project which eventually became Escaflowne. Basically WW2 with transforming fighters. Many designs were re-incorporated into Macross later, the VA-3 was one, and the Elgerzorene was another. I'm sure there were a few more. The same goes for the VF-9, originally it was designed for the "Advanced Valkyrie" project, with the VF-3000, but it was later used in Macross M3.
-
Yay, I'm not the only one. OK, Bandai, quit yer ball-droppin' and get those VF-4's and 17's poppin'!! And if the next 1/100 is announced to be another VF-1 I'm gonna slap some executives silly.
-
Yeah, I'm still looking forward to it, no matter. I just expected to be wowed, but, alas. Looks good anyway. Now, I'm gonna cross my fingers while knocking on wood as I wait for this thing to come out without any breakage reports. Hey, we should call the next Yamato thread "BREAKING NEWS", haha.
-
They mention that it will feature Valkyries of the various generations, so I'm expecting lots of cool stuff, VF-4, VF-17.. Whoohoo! But every time I get my hopes up too high...
-
Interestingly, the accompanying text states that this figure will be the first in a line of 1/100 scale Macross valkyrie toys by Bandai. Huzzah! Affordable (I hope) valks! Is this news? EDIT -- Forgot one detail: PARTS-SWAPPING CONFIRMED FOR THIS ONE.
-
Forgot the title: "A KIT FOR THE 'SIMPLE IS BEST' CROWD" ... approximately
-
I'm doing some other translation work on PC right at this moment, so while my mind is on properly I can do this paragraph as a refresher. First off, it's a kit, by Wave. OK. Wave "Macross DYRL” 1/100 scale VF-1s Valkyrie Having already made a perfect transformation SDF1 and a VF-0 kit, Wave is currently developing a new Macros item, this VF-1S Valkyrie. You have the option to build it in flying mode or parked mode. They are planning to keep the number of parts to a minimum and opt for ease of assembly, with a snap-fit design. For those who hate a large amount of pieces or gluing, this is for you! Additionally, Wave will use this kit to announce more new Macross products over three consecutive months. Don’t miss the next new announcement! Price: TBA 2009 Spring release by Wave

If they have the concert on the same day they should have a big screen right on the stage where we can watch it for half an hour, then let the party begin. That would be awesome. Although not for MBS's ratings, though. -

Think you only read half the post man.... -
Oh, yeah, I remember that now. Miho must have been on the sauce again... Maybe you could make it "Captor", or something? Kinda iffy though. Heh. Stranger things have happened! She signed my Miss DJ poster a while back so it's not as if she hates it. I just don't think she'll remember much of it.
-
He did say a lot of people worked on the same designs, so it wasn't just him who did Convoy. Although he did "fix" whatever was wrong with the original design if I remember correctly. I think the original designer had run away somewhere or something..? Anyway, it is intriguing that this Shockwave toy has elements not just from the VF-1, but also the way the arms come together is reminiscent of the Breast Fighter, which LATER became the Valkyrie. Check it out (pics from the Chronicle, better pics are in Design Works): BTW he said his favourite design he worked on for Diaclone was "Robot Base".
-
Is that the thing about the Protoculture toilet or something?? We appreciate it. Take your time, Gubaba. BTW, Isn't Macross Love just quotes from the TV show?

I don't remember anyone saying it would be 30, or even 28 episodes. Most anime shows are planned as two seasons these days, which means 26. Kawamori's previous show, Aquarion, was 26. Not disagreeing, but I'm just pointing out that no evidence has been seen to assume it has been "cut down". -

We just have this so far: -
With you guys talking about software mods, but then waiting to buy new models, I'm not sure what to do. I am thinking of buying a second-hand one because I heard it's much easier to do all these hacks and whatnot on the older firmware versions, but if the new 3000 model has a firmware update then it may not be as much fun. Still, better screen sounds good....
-
Wait, so we've got toy pics in the model thread, and model pics in the toy thread?? GWWAAAAAGH!!
-
I don't get it. How extensive is the cockpit/fuselage retooling on the 1/60 then? Are you saying you would not need retooling for a 1/60 1D? It ended up looking the same as the other VF-1s! If it was totally different, I would understand how the 1/60 v2 was designed to accomodate both designs with minimal retools. Since it isn't, there's not much argument left for saying it's a whole retooling process which wouldn't have worked in 1/48. Crux of the matter: WHY does changing the head, chestplate and adding an extra seat (and a couple of other minor changes) warrant a huge retool o the 1/48, but not on the 1/60? Those minimal changes were not what I expected when I heard that they were "designed to accommodate 2 seaters". If it sounds like I'm ranting, I apologise. I only want to clear up this mystery.

Not a broadcast, it's the MacF concert that they had a few weeks back. I'm looking forward to the report on this!

The VF-1D and the VT-1 have totally different canopy designs. And I know the 1D's design is in no way realistic, I've been thinking that for years, which is why I was not bothered by the inaccuracy of the original 1/60 1D. However, they never made a 1/48 because they said it couldn't be made justice to, so when they said they would finally be possible in this new 1/60 line, I really had my hopes up to see just how they would magically recreate this design. So, yeah, I am just surprised to see that a miracle did not occur and they hardly even bothered. It still looks like a very nice toy and all, I just cannot see what was so impossible about doing this in 1/48 after all.
-
The colour I don't mind, but I agree with danth on the canopy issue. Seriously, if they're not changing the canopy length at all, it's not really a 1D, and why, then, was it so impossible to do it in 1/48? This is what I was expecting from Yamato: Apart from that I like it, so I will very likely buy it. It will be my first 1/60 v2... and hopefully the VE-1 will be my second. Dunno yet, though.

I saw a listing for it on HLJ, but these are the first pics I've seen for the "Demonstration" version of the Hasegawa YF-19. From today's issue of the Chronicle. Sorry for the poor photos, no scanner yet.
