  1. I wouldn't worry about it, in a year or two we'll probably be back at the semi-hibernation stage of Macross, where we'll be trying to pick up everything we skipped in the interim, trying to find issue 04 of Macross Chronicle or score a rare unopened can of bread on ebay, just because. People most likely said the same about the 1/55 Elintseeker back in the day... EDIT for spelling duh
  2. Aramaki did that illustration especially for the book.
  3. OH, SWEEEEEET!! It sounded too good to be true... but it is!! Is this gonna be a monthly? Probably not a weekly, right? Thanks as always for the scoop-da, Kresphy!
  4. Amazon says it's not out until the 25th, so just a few more days to go. EDIT -- Damn, I just read GGemini's post now, sorry.
  5. There's a whole threads-worth of bikes here: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?show...ble+motorcycles
  6. 100% agreed. What they did well on M7, they did absolutely fantastic. What they did badly, they messed up horribly. I love the show personally, but it could have been much, much better.
  7. So the Koenig Monster towel... doesn't even have a Koenig Monster on it?? Argh, dammit. Oh, well.
  8. Depends what kind of course. Japanese studies was my major, so it was one or two hours of Japanese everyday, then hanging out with Japanese exchange students, organising Japanese Society events, and watching Macross and listening to Fukuyama CDs in between. Constant exposure soon gets you thinking in the language. Even if you cannot pick up on everything at first, as soon as your brain is working in Japanese it will help fill in the blanks on its own and will eventually guide you towards what sounds "natural". Kanji will always, always, be a b**ch, though.
  9. OK, for me, the end of DYRL, Max and Millia in DYRL, Guld vs. Isamu, Guld vs. the Ghost, Isamu vs. renegade Zents, are all awesome, and it's all because of Itano. He made Macross what it is. So the results do not surprise me. I love them all, I cannot pick just one. But now I'm gonna prepare for flaming and go for the underdog vote. I don't think Basara versus Chlore was that memorable, but take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMsv6Z95wOg From the episode where they use the new "Song Energy Convertors", but before they got the Sound Boosters. This is just pure awe, I've loved this ending scene since the first time I saw it around ten years ago just because it encapsulates everything that rocks about Mac7 in 5 minutes. Plus the animation and choreography is above its average level, which looks even better now on the HD remaster. At 4:19 on that clip is probably my favourite part, where Ray has to prop Basara's valk up to stop him from toppling over due to OVER-ROCKING. This show is about the spirit of rock, with robots thrown in, and to me this battle scene epitomizes M7, and is the turning point of the whole show. And if you think that confrontation is still meh, then I defy you to dismiss THIS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD07R-rwBGQ Two minutes in: Greatest moment in the history of everything.
  10. Maybe they can use the time to fix the "Armer Cycle" (sic) written on the stand.
  11. Great! Thanks again!
  12. Wouldn't a 1/8 Macronized Klan be the same size as a regular porn star? I'm guessing that one is not actually 1/8.
  13. Thanks Vifam. Could we have the link to the original article please?
  14. I thought this book was mainly pictures with a couple of interviews at the back?
  15. Why is it a Sheryl Nome anything?? This has nothing to do with Macross....
  16. Er... who ever assumed it was the English reading?? Watch Macross 7, the bodyguard: THAT's the English reading. And we have known since the episode with Michel's sister that Alto calls him Mikhael ミハエル but his close friends call him Michel ミシェル! That was the whole point of the episode. At the end, Alto shows his faith in him by calling him Michel and thus he is reassured and goes on to shoot the bad bug. I give up now, because this thing is just going round in circles. I leave you all with previews of next week's Chronicle. I love that small pic of the VF-1D on the cover, I wonder if that's old box art I've never seen before or if it's a brand new thing.
  17. Yes, you're absolutely right... However, that may mean that we might just have to go back to the original Hebrew reading, which is מיכאל. That is actually pronounced like in the show, apparently... So, we do a further bit of research here http://library.stanford.edu/hebraicafunnel...es_20040703.htm and we get this: Yiddish first names, with three different romanisations: Mikha’el Mikhl Mikhl I say we pick the first one and be done with it.
  18. I don't get it, I definitely voted already days ago (check my previous post), but apparently that wasn't counted?? So I just voted again for Aimo - Tori no hito. Sure enough, it had no votes... that's really weird. Unless I thought I voted, but didn't...
  19. I disagree on many points. 1) "Michael" in English is not an unfamiliar name in Japan. Therefore it would be recognised and pronounced as such without too much hassle, had that actually been the name. EDIT -- I remembered, there is a character called Michael in Macross 7. See the difference in pronounciation between his name and the MacFrontier character? 2) Nothing has a non-phonetic spelling in Japanese. Everything can be broken down into phonetic katakana or hiragana. Precisely why they don't care much about romanisation, and why we're having all this trouble in the first place. You.. don't actually think the character names in the scripts are actually written in Roman letters, do you? 3) By the way, Eureka is not originally an English name either, so though our pronounciation of it is "You-Ree-Kah", in Japanese it is closer to the Greek "Eh-ooh-reh-kah", or more accurately, エウレカ. Dunno where you got that "Erireka" from, I suggest you listen more closely. Nobody mispronounced anything.
  20. But his name is never actually pronounced like the English "Michael" at any point in the show. Like Sketchley said, it is ミハイル, which is the Russian version of Michael, "Mikhail" as in Mikhail Gorbachev. Here's the Japanese wikipedia page, as you can see the katakana is the same. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%9F%E3%...%83%A7%E3%83%95 In instances where his name is pronounced ミシェル, then it reverts to the French which is Michel. Since in the show it is never pronounced マイケル, as in Michael Jackson, my advice would be to drop the "Michael" romanization altogether because essentially you would be complicating the problem by adding a third pronounciation which doesn't even appear in the show.
  21. I may be wrong, but concerning the Ghost and Gallia 4 sets, I don't think the original text actually said anything about them being web exclusives, just that they would be priced 4,000yen on the Tamashii Webshop, while usually they would be 5000yen. I think that coupon thing is a misinterpretation. But certainly it is clear that the Alto Super packs are exclusives. Which is really weird and stupid.
  22. It's not a remix, it's a self-cover. It's on both the Maximum Singles Box, and on the "Mari Iijima Sings Lynn Minmay", where you'll find more updated Minmay songs. http://www.amazon.com/Mari-Iijima-Sings-Ly...y/dp/B00006JOT3
  23. Apparently, he's putting together a petition to have a Fire Bomber concert to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Macross 7. And ThreeNine (Fukuyama's agency) responded by saying they were moved and may think about it. Which is fine, except..... didn't they just do one last year? Not sure how many ticket sales will be guaranteed either, because they released a DVD of the last show. Looking on his website, it seems like he wants to get Kawamori to feature too, though.
  24. "Childfood friend"? Oh, holy hell.
