Got mine this morning, but haven't had time to read it properly yet. June, though.... Jeez. That really sucks.

Aw, crap, I mis-typed that kanji in the last post. Don't worry, I meant 機動, and that's how I tranlated it, so I think it's Ok.

Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!
Renato replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Argh. Why not just sell them all at the same time, so MacF can be just Wave 1, then when that's done they can bring out the other valks. If they're gonna do one at a time, and IF they're doing all the myriad variations of the VF-1 next, then I will be a grandfather by the time they get round to the VF-4. -

I liked it. There's way too much seriousness in this thread. Just imagine the consequences, though, if HG is reading this and they also take it too seriously. Or is it more like "Wha?? How did they KNOW what happened in that office..?"

Back to that evil sentence: 起動 I translated as Mobility. Could be maneouverability, basically, it's about the whole craft moving around. You could say that Gerwalk is the mode in which the craft is the most manouverable, right? And the "transform part of the craft" bit, is possibly referring to transforming only one arm or something, while the rest is in Fighter mode. As for hovering, I learned 制御from watching sci-fi anime, and more often than not it means some controlling system, like in Orguss's anti-gravity system, which believe it or not was called the 慣性制御システム (literally, inertia-control?). 空力 literally means air-power if you split it up, but I just put two and two together, and combined that with the 制御and it sounds like that's what they're trying to say. What was the name of the anti-gravity system in the first couple of eps of SDF Mac? Was it 重力制御システム or something? That may give us a clue.

I'll have a go. Because it can be maneouvered through an extension of the pilot's thoughts (a concept similar to the YF-21's BDI system) by determining his subliminal/subconscious through the muscles' electrical pulses [dunno the actual English term for this, apparently it's not "neurones"], complex maneouvers are possible, such as transformation of only one part of the craft while hovering; thus GERWALK mode is used not only for its own advantages, but as part of mobility. Yeah, I don't really get the "part of mobility" thing.

Thanks, kresphy! Oh yes, I forgot it was out tomorrow! Looking at that contents page... I dunno. Apart from "Mac The First" ( o/` Oh the shark bite... With his teeth, dear... o/` ), there's not much as exciting as I had hoped... So much Frontier junk, and that Seventh Bridge thing. Anyway, I will prepare myself for disappointment so I can be impressed when I get it. You gotta have a strategy, see.

Aw, as I thought, I've still got to unlock this, then. Till then I'm stuck with the squeaky one. Thanks anyway.

I spotted another typo: The Varauta army page refers to the star system as both Varauta 3198XE and 3198EX. Can't remember which one is correct, though.

What? Where?? The next option down is the color edit. Are we talking about the same menu? In the PLAYER menu of the hangar, you can choose and tune your valk, choose pilots and assign skills to them, then change the colour of your valk. And the triangle button opens up a viewer to allow you to look at your valk. Exactly the same for your PARTNER menu. That's all you can do, as far as I can tell. There is no menu that I can see to change your operator.

I've completed most of the game by now (as in, technically finished all four campaigns), I just need to finish those pesky little Zentradi missions, and then I have to concentrate on unlocking all the Extra and EX missions. One thing that is really bugging me is that in order to unlock Misa, I heard you have to have three operators, and have their hearts maxed? Well, when do you get any new operators assigned? Because from what I can tell, you choose your operator at the very start of the game and then you're stuck with her. At what point do you unlock the others, or is there a SELECT option that I'm missing? I'm still totally unclear on the whole heart/love/confidence level thing. And I mean in the game, not in life, thank you.

 Thanks, Sketchley. Well, that should be de facto for any day of the year, let alone a Macross Launch Ceremony.

Wish-list: Variable Glaug, VF-9, Full-Armoured Thunderbolt.

Macross Launch Ceremony Event News update.... http://www.animecenter.jp/eng/200901/12153931.php Sigh...... Why? WHY do they make it so DIFFICULT??!? More Information on Macross Akiba Event February 22, 2009 There is more information on the Macross Super Dimension Space Lift Off Ceremony (the one that was first reported on the 12/26 entry for the official Macross Frontier website): Date: February 22, 2009 (Sunday) Location: The Akiba Square located within the Akihabara UDX Building How to get tickets: A "stamp rally" will be held from February 7, 2009 to February 22, 2009. After buying a stamp book, the participant must collect stamps from participating stores in and around Akihabara by buying merchandise or food at those stores. After sending in the completed book, the person will then be entered into a drawing for a ticket to the event. More information on the stamp rally will be announced next week. And, more up to date: http://www.macrossf.com/information/others.html So, to summarize: You have to buy a poster at the Anime Center, then use the little paper that comes with it to participate in the Stamp Rally, upon completion of which you can enter a draw, and if you win you can attend the EITHER the Macross launch ceremony event or a special talk show with Kawamori, Miyatake, Mikimoto.... and the other non-important guys (Frontier cast ). AND YOU DON'T EVEN GET TO CHOOSE WHICH ONE YOU WILL ATTEND!! Argh.

Yes, this is true. Ichiro Itano is behind this change. The previous episode saw Hikaru have trouble beating the same enemy, even though he had the full armoured GBP, so these tailfin missiles were added to avoid a continuity problem. This info comes from one of those many freebie books that came with Animage featuring production notes aplenty. The lineart designs for the scene were also published in there, I never saw them anywhere else.

Hmmm. Compare that to the Japanese live-action version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL7I_0_ogM0 The CG work is indeed more refined on the Imagi version. However, while I did think the Japanese version was awful until now, in comparison with the Imagi one I have found a few things which stand out. Firstly, there are a lot more scenes with visual impact in the Japanese one: The Tokyo Tower scene, the smashing of the windows, it all seems wonderfully choreographed. Secondly, they were right to place it in 1950s Tokyo. Like Godzilla, Tetsujin is a tale as much about post-war Japan and the fragility of Tokyo as it is about the giant battles and little kids. The Imagi one is... what is this, New York? Lastly, the Imagi character designs are right out of Final Fantasy and seem completely out of place. If anything, either update the robot designs or retro the characters. At the moment it looks like two different shows. My two yen.

I loved all the old DIC shows from the 80s. Looking at the pics on the website, that French release of Ulysses seems spectacular. It looks so clear! I was in Europe a few months ago and I did actually think of buying it.

Hikaru's helmet looks ever so slightly re-designed. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the fighters are drawn... Although, I imagine most of the cosmetic re-imaginings will be in character and clothes design. Minmay's hair and dress look much more up to date now. I am really looking forward to this manga, but looking at this art, I do think it's a real shame and wasted opportunity that we didn't get Mikimoto as the designer for Mac Frontier.

I don't get it. So the video itself is not protected by copyright?

Yeah, I remember the new girl. "Pasha", right? She was more of a last-minute addition, though. And yeah, you're right, I forgot that they used it on that Zentradi girl. Can't even remember her name now. Actually, it sounds really exciting looking back now, but the fact that I've forgotten about most of it points to bad execution. The art is great, I suppose it's down to pacing, or lack of depth in the characters.

I'm probably the only one who really wants a Variable Glaug..... Or maybe a VF-9? Well, actually Kawamori did say he wanted someone to make a toy or kit of the VF-9. I say go for it.
-
That may have more to do with the length of the production runs, though. We would have to do a bit more research to determine this.

Here's a link to my really old webpage. The series was still running at the time. http://geocities.com/gunsight_one/mac7trash.html Shame the story kind of didn't go anywhere in the end. It was kind of interesting that they were reverse-engineering the spiritia absorption devices of the Varauta to create super-airbladers, who would then be kind of like the Perfect Soldiers from Votoms. That is, if I remember correctly. The first couple of books hint at a love triangle, too, but in the end that doesn't really develop into anything either.
