  1. Can't remember how I beat that one, but I did it in just a couple of goes, I guess I was lucky or something. I cannot get past Miss Macross EX, though.
  2. So much for the Scoop thread.
  3. Oh, I didn't know that review was so infamous! It was made by a friend of mine, whom I would later collaborate with to create that old classic "Minmay Attacks". I did a search and found the original: http://homepage.mac.com/thansson/reviews/M...MacrossZero.htm And there's more Macross and whatnot game reviews in the menu: http://homepage.mac.com/thansson/reviews/index.html Too bad we never got to finish the other stuff we started.
  4. When I saw it, I counted only one second (or less) of new footage and that was a still outside shot of the new concert hall, so there's really nothing particularly earth-shattering there. The only other new thing is a new Ranka song, but I'm betting we'll hear lots and lots of that over the coming months.
  5. Macross Seven.
  6. Thanks for clearing up the stuff about his wife. As for the novelizations, I guess they're not by him, after all, then? In that case FinalVegeta has gone at least one fact wrong. Sorry I just assumed they were written by Ohnogi because I had no reason to doubt FV and my books were in the UK. Having said that, I do have on my shelf with my right now the Orguss novelizations, published in the same format which are by Inoue as well. So I guess that clears up the "oddity" I felt when I was wondering how come Ohnogi made no mention of the post-war era in the novels, which he had helped create in the series.
  7. Thanks for the pics! The one with the text on white background confirms that the red and white UN symbols are a mistake on the sample, so the real blue/grey symbols should be in place of those in the actual product! Yes!
  8. Final Vegeta, I admire all the work and thought you've put into this thread and in trying to stimulate interesting behind-the-scenes production debate, which I always enjoy more than discussing the actual stories of the shows. I have a question, though, where did you get the information surrounding his private life, ie the way he married his wife etc? I don't think I have read about that. And I have the SDF novels back in the UK, I'd like to check them out again now. What I find odd is that Ohnogi ended the story at the final showdown with Bodolza, while in the SDF TV show he was brought in to cover the post-war arc for Kawamori et al who had gone on to plan the DYRL movie. In any case, I see a striking difference between Hikaru's kind of passive attitude towards Misa in the series and the way he professes his unswaying love for her in the movie (written by Sukehiro Tomita). As with Frontier, the final episodes of the SDF series show that the main characters and the resolution of their relationship have no real impact on the broader story (in the case of SDF, the Kamjin attack). If indeed this is a signature of Ohnogi's writing, then it is interesting indeed, though a shame. [edited for clarity]
  9. I hope so, but really? Remember it's been fifteen years since Mac7 and Bandai are still sitting on that with all the heft of stubborn Sumo wrestlers. We could've seen transformable Sound Boosters and whatnot by now. As for the DX, I just read the news of the re-designed parts for the re-issues. If indeed this is for the Full Armour, then there is hope for a stand-alone aromour parts set. So I will just get that to go with my planned Michael purchase.
  10. The double-standard issue/discrepancy/debate has been done to death in the DX thread, if I recall. It got so tiresome I skimmed most of the thread because of it. In terms of inaccuracies with Bandai's DX and 100s VF-25s as compared to those of Yamato's YF-19, I can see one reason why general approval for the 19 would be higher: simply that there is no other transformable YF-19 in the market. With the 25, Bandai has made three incarnations so far, with the Robot Tamashii thing still to come, and the jury is still out on whether that will transform or not (though I doubt it). And though earlier in the thread I was lectured that comparisons with models and toys are "silly", I know I am not the only one making them, nor am I the only one that feels the narrowing gap between the attributes of the two in recent years. If someone makes a better proportioned, PT YF-19 than what Yamato has on offer now, you will see its popularity decline (or just see how few people care any longer for the 1/72 MacPlus toys).
  11. Exactly. They should've ignored the tradition of starting with Hikaru and Skull Leader and gone straight into the Ostrich and Elint. I was going to skip the Yamato versions of those and just buy the 1/55 versions, as they have much more value for me.
  12. I hope you mean aside from any more VF-1 or VT-1 or VE-1 variations... I'm gonna pester Yamato to make a VF-9 and/or a Variable Glaug.
  13. There is a Votoms spin-off called Mellowlink that has a guy riding around on a bike for most of the show, I believe. It is on my "to watch" list, if I ever get round to it. And I love Yasuhiko Yoshikazu's character designs in Venus Wars (as in everything else), and the art direction. The animation is very good quality. However, I found the movie's pacing kind of boring, and it seemed to drag on endlessly.
  14. Old thread: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26540 I'm not sure if there is any real need to have a part 2 of this thread, since everyone by now seems to have gotten bored of the game. Well, I'm still not, and I'm slowly but surely working my way through the EX missions whenever I have free time. This game is fantastic because you can pick it up, play for five minutes and then get back to your real life, or you can go on for hours on end. Anyway, a few months back I was also thinking of starting a "strike a pose" kind of thread here where people could upload their most dynamic and/or cool screenshots or replays that they would like to share. Lastly, how the hell do you do the Miss Macross EX mission in Macross Frontier?? I swear, that Queadluun Rea is useless. The beam weapons are crap because Michael and gang prance about so quickly that you will always miss. Only the missiles are any good. What I found odd was the first couple of tries I could beat the Skull team with no problem, but the Vajras always killed me. Now I'm lucky if I can even get past Michael and Alto. Even Luca is a bit of a challenge! Next time I have a chance to play I'm gonna see if I can score some tune points on the Yack Deculture mission (the one with millions of enemies) to power up the Q-Rea because it's gonna take forever otherwise. Here are some pics to spice things up: "Mr Anderson! MISTER Anderson....! Mr Anderson!... Mister..."
  15. What is it now, ten years since HG blocked Toycom, and seven or eight years since the cease and desist BS, and the BW vs Tatsunoko court case? By the time they sort all this crap out there'll be no more Macross franchise left to promote. Look at Frontier, they're really only targeting the anime fan market these days, instead of mainstream audiences. Shame about the 1/55s. I still cannot understand what Bandai was thinking, bringing out the same valks which EVERYONE owns by now, over and over again. Surely they can forsee bad sales.
  16. Yeah, I totally agree. The new 1/60 head position reminds me of Masterpiece Starscream's "head on a pedestal syndrome", and although it is not so bad on SS, it pretty much ruins the new VF-1 1/60s. That's also one of the reasons why I haven't bought any except for this VF-1D, as on the 1D, the top of the chest plate is straight and the head is meant to sit higher anyway. Meanwhile, I never really felt that the groin area was overly large on the 1/48s. I mean, in comparison I can see it, but I never felt it looked odd.
  17. Yeah, I was just talking about that with him the other day. And that was the VF-1S that came WITHOUT A HEAD. Apparently since then, he has never bothered to lock the hip-bar in properly again on his subsequent 1/60. And on my 1D the hip-bar lock cover joint thing no longer secures tightly. As long as the hip-bar itself is housed tight inside the cavity I have no big problems with that, but it kind of goes to show that they shouldn't try to fix what isn't broke. The 1/48 system was fine, there was no need to add this ridiculous "now you just gotta angle it juuust righ.... AW, YOU RIPPED IT RIGHT OFF" nonsense.
  18. Because the 1/72 kit is (save for the hands) perfect transformation at Y4000. And you only need to put it together ONCE. What I don't get is the people who say that they do not have the "time" to make a kit. OK, that's fine.... but you realise that essentially with the 1/100 you are always gonna be destroying and re-making a kit, right? As for the GNUs, those are overpriced too. I got one for 1500 yen and still felt ripped off. Then they were reduced even further to 980 yen so I got one for my little brother; that's how much they're reduced these days and they're STILL not moving off the shelves. Shops just cannot seem to get rid of them as far as I can see. If that's not a sign of overpricing, I dunno what is. DISCLAIMER: Just my two cents, I'm not looking to start a fight. It's a shame that I have to actually write this, but just in case...
  19. Markcell posted this link in the Macrosshare shoutbox: Macross All Song Book http://samada08.blog10.fc2.com/blog-entry-856.html And if we look at the details here: http://www.e-animedia.net/b_macross_all_song_book.html ..Man, they ain't kidding. This really is pretty much ALL the songs! They've got both "Love Songs" in there, even "Why" and "Shoot & Shout"! That's a lotta Macross music.
  20. Argh, darn you, VF-1D. The counterintuitive nature of this toy continues to annoy me. I kept on transforming it yesterday to get used to it, I have done it at least six or seven times now. It gets more difficult each time!! This has never happened with any other transforming toy for me before. Aside from the hip bar, now I have to do some extensive adjusting with the position of the fuselage to get it from fighter to batroid and vice versa. That means ripping up all the skin on my thumbs from the die-cast inner chestplate. Secondly, the right foot will no longer pull out of the lower leg! No matter how hard I try, it won't come out, even though it was not so stiff before. After forty minutes of struggling (remember I had transformed it several times before), I gave up and left a toy in mid-transformation on my desk probably for the first time in my life and just went to sleep. This morning I tried again, I even used a dishcloth to get more friction, but to no avail. Then I figured that I should just try to swing the feet in the closed position and use the leverage to get the whole thing to slide out. With a lot of torque it finally worked. But that's what I have to do every time now! The left foot pulls out with no problem. OK, so at first I was worried about breaking this toy, but now I am worried about this toy injuring me. Definitely not fun. I will try to do more transformations, but to be honest, it as really put me off and although I considering the Ostrich and Elint, I don't think I will be buying more. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, and this is really far from that.
  21. I agree 100%, old-school styrofoam just FEELS like "Japanese quality". When I first took my Chogokin DX Aquarion out of the box I got a real old-school vibe, it was so strange. I do see the need to make the trays plastic, though, it is certainly better for the environment, too. They should go for the nostalgia value from time to time, though, and they should go the whole hog and illustrate the box with painted box art, too. Tenjin has been doing Yamato's box art for the Garlands, Scopedogs, and Beagle's Mospeada, correct? Shame he cannot do the Macross toys too. I guess he has some kind of exclusive contract with Hasegawa?
  22. I just saw both the "Anthology" vid and the "Armageddon" one. Both were extremely well made, I am really suprised at the quality of the editing.
  23. Hi all Well, I got my v2 1D today too, and it is also my first 1/60 v2. I must say, I'm quite impressed. I definitely like it a lot. But there is one thing really dragging me down about this toy. The hip-bar connection. What the hell is that?? It is a total b**** to put it and take out. I read some of you have problems getting landing gear out and stuff, well, everything works just fine and smooth for me, so I guess I'm lucky there. However, I cannot get over how hard and how much time it takes and how stressful it is to hook and unhook that bleedin' hip-bar. It almost ruins the whole experience for me, because I want to be able to switch between modes quickly and smoothly and I though this toy would be the Macross toy to be able to give you that experience since the 1/55, the be all and end all. Alas. Aside from that, it's a really fine item. I love the quality of the plastic. Makes the earlier Yamato fare seem like knock-offs.
  24. Here's a pic I took, it lets you see the ratchets: EDIT: after ages in the test forum, I managed to succeed.
