Not really THAT honest, then.

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

Yeah, "iconic" is definitely the key descriptor! It holds such a special place in my heart that I actually got another when they reissued it (with option parts). Usually I don't buy multiple pieces of the same thing. -
Wow, very nice, I love outdoor shots.

Giant God Warrior appears in Tokyo. Nassicaa inspired.
Renato replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, I saw this on the big screen a couple of years back, as part of the touring Tokusatsu exhibition. The "making of" exhibit for this movie was also incredible. You think the glowing gold dust that appears near the start is CG, bu nope, that's optical, too!! Oh, that's Megumi Hayashibara doing the narration, by the way. For those who don't know, Hideaki Anno (Evangelion among others) and Shinji Higuchi (umm, Macross Plus, among many others!!) made this film. Higuchi is directing the live-action Attack on Titan and Anno has just been picked as director for the new Godzilla movie. This may give us a hint as to what we will be getting from Japan in the next few years! -
Sarah Brightman, a possible Minmay prototype, to sing in space
Renato replied to Saruta's topic in Movies and TV Series
TOTALLY worth it! Seriously, when you consider how much money flies around in garbage Hollywood blockbusters, what's a fraction of a cent from taxpayers for David Bowie in space? -
The script was written by David Newman... I assume the same one who, according to IMDB wrote Superman I, II and III, Santa Claus the Movie, and apparently he even did the Smooth Criminal segment of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker!! Unfortunately he died in 2003, so we cannot ask him about the live action Macross script.

Wait, this thread has been going for years and still no-one has posted these photos from the aborted live-action movie planned in the 1990s? How come?? I know a lot of you guys know about this, right? (By the way, this is not an April Fools. I repeat, seriously, this is not an April Fools. This is the real deal.)

The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next
Renato replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Got Exhaust a few days ago. He's OK, I get the impression that the parts fit isn't as neat as Wheeljack, though. There are several things which bug me, such as the back plate keeps falling down, a little elbow hinge crack, and a noticeable "chip off the shoulder" literally. I can post photos of those later, but anyway, here's a pic of what I did as soon as I transformed it:- 16710 replies

The Facebook page of "Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast" has called upon the fans to submit questions for Tommy Yune and the artist of the crossover comic to answer when they guest on the show in a couple of days. You know what to do.

Can't decide between this one or the VF-19P. 19P for looks, but this one has the built-in shoulder speakers, plus the sound booster option, so in the end as a toy it is pretty much perfect and so much fun. I transform it several times a week, while most of my other valks are just left on display these days!

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Renato replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hahaha, well played, Nekko-san! Marzan -- Good point. There is also the fact that a new Aquarion show has been announced for 2015, since it's the franchise's 10th anniversary. Personally, I never saw a likeness between Aquarion and Okawara's stuff, but sure, who knows. More details no doubt coming next weekend at the AnimeJapan industry event, but in the meantime, I guesstimate that Delta ain't going nowhere fast. The whispers I heard about it being a 35th anniversary series are starting to have some credence... That's why I'm not among the folks panicking that we haven't heard more news about the Hi-Metal R toys over in the other thread. They'll roll them out when there's something to promote, but not right now, the timing would be off. There's nothing out there, nor will there be for a while yet. Since all we can do is speculate, I will share what the hardcore Macross fans told me today at the event, though. Most of them think Delta is going to be a failure. And I can see why. Frontier was a surprise runaway phenomenal hit, and caught everyone off-guard. But not because it was Macross -- it was the characters of Sheryl and Ranka, and the female viewership/consumers that propelled it that way. We've talked quite a bit on this forum about how we should "expect more of the same" because Frontier was a winning formula, but at the end of the day, most people only care about Ranka and Sheryl and if they're not in the new show, it may just be an uphill struggle no matter what it's about. I seem to recall Tochiro saying something similar in the last couple of Speakerpod-Casts, but today I really felt that the "Macross is doomed" vibe was rather tangible. Then again, let's face it, hardcore Macross fans are weird. Both within Japan and outside. (Though for different reasons )- 2715 replies

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Renato replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
In other Delta (?) news, this could be something, could be nothing... I just came back from a Mecha Designers Summit talk event between Kunio Okawara, Shoji Kawamori and Ryusuke Hikawa (google 'em if you don't know, this isn't the newbie thread ). Okawara mentioned that Kawamori had come over to his studio to look at his wares, as it were. For those that don't know, Okawara has his own atelier where he makes things as he designs -- out of metal, wood, and recently 3D printed stuff. Could we be looking at some collaboration with Okawara in Macross, for the first time ever? Personally, I believe it's some other thing that they're working on together, not Macross Delta (I still think we're in REALLY early days) but who knows. Speculate away!- 2715 replies

Gamlin Kizaki-- Have you heard of the anime AKB0048? It's directed by Kawamori, is set in space, has robots and missiles, and it's about the idol group AKB48 in the future. Next!- 2715 replies

Primus1X -- It wasn't about rap, but Mac7 already did that. It was about a guy literally living in the slums that went on to save the colony, and the galaxy. /M7 did it- 2715 replies

I doubt we'll see much from this until Delta kicks off properly, or at least in the run-up to its broadcast.

I think everything has its own charm in some respect, so I rarely sell anything, if ever. My least favorite, though, is any of the Bandai DX offerings that I own. I have the VF-25G Michel v.1, the VF-27 Green one (v1), and a VF-171EX. Well, they're all terribly loose. Especially the 27, it's just a floppy mess. Once it just toppled over in battroid because of the floppy ankles and due to the enourmous engine-equipped wings being held on by tiny hinges on the back, of course I ended up with stresses and cracks in crucial places, that I don't want to transform it anymore. I like its look, in particular Fighter mode, but it's not supposed to be a kit, it's supposed to be a toy.
-
Mommar -- Complaining that they are fiddly and come with small parts that are "easily lost" sounds to me like a little bit of a contradiction because If those small parts were integrated into the plane the toys would be even more fiddly, and have yet more issues. Personally I don't have a problem with adult collectibles having small parts (unless it's overkill) because we're not children anymore and won't lose them at school, or whatever. I do agree that it is a little annoying to have to go back and get pieces out of the box everytime you want to transform them, but it's not a dealbreaker. I actually think that they're great, and I'm sure I'll get more.

Exactly. Just because something has sex and violence does not make it mature; in fact, if that's all it is, it becomes more childish. You can imagine kids watching this thinking "Coool!! He just stabbed that guy in the face!!" Which is not to say that this is made for kids, but more of an immature lust for things which are "cool" and "awesome". I sort of shudder when adults react like that, but yeah, we all have our "inner child" that we have to satisfy from time to time, that's sort of why we love robots and stuff. That's OK, just don't call it mature. Are the Michael Bay Transformer movies more mature than the original cartoon because they swear and zoom the camera into girls' asses and the bots rip each other's faces off? Nope. In fact, they're even more childish, in my opinion. I would call Transformers Prime far more "mature" because the story, dialogue and characterization does not patronize the viewers, and does not need to rely on more sex and violence to seem more "grown-up" than the original. Where's the Power Rangers version of that? That's maturity to me.

No, it says there that the Macross papercraft comes with the book! The book is mostly about the design and stats of the Macross and Valkyries and has an episode guide of the original series, etc.

I should elaborate, they're digital downloads. Sorry, left that part out.
