The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
Renato replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was reading the trailer breakdown on Empire here: http://www.empireonline.com/features/trans...breakdown/9.asp Take a look at that guy's jacket. therealeffingdeal.com? I wondered if that was one of those marketing campaign things like the old Sector 7 secret website a couple of years back. Well, apparently, you need a password to get in, just like the S7 one. Anybody heard anything about this? Maybe it's just some random non-related site after all, though. -
The popularity is not going to branch out any further than your pedo-perv demographic if they continue with this BS. You think the target audience is growing? There's only a small number of otaku you can sell this stuff too so at the end of the day if they want to maximise profits they've got to think about targeting a wider audience. T-Shirts and stuff is OK. What's wrong with a Macross F pencil sharpener, or ruler, or notebook? Macross F speakers so you can listen to Yoko Kanno all day? A Macross F fridge magnet? WHY the need for stuff that is just geared to a puny minority? That's what I don't get. At the end of the day, it doesn't expand the franchise recognition and it ends up perpetuating the general "anime fans are all pervs" mindset. You're never gonna get cheap anime DVDs if you keep reminding people that only sickos are into it.

Kawamori specifically said in a recent interview (I think it was in either Macross Chronicle or Figure Oh) that the head position changed after the VF-1 because of the necessity of a weapon for the specific use of taking out an enemy behind the craft. You see it used this way in Macross Plus, which was the first anime to feature this design.

Yeah, I think the SV-51 is not supposed to have covers.
-
OK, now they've gone too far. Macross Frontier is very rapidly losing more respect from me even after it ended than when it was on the air.

Sound Booster-equipped Fire Valkyrie, I don't care what scale. The speakers must work allowing the entire valk to double up as an MP3 player. That ought to blow that blocky chunk of boredom "Soundwave MP3 player" away. Oh, and put light up LEDs in it, too, why the hell not. But anyway, yeah, a Variable Glaug would be cool. I have ben suggesting that for a long time.

OK I saw a bit more now, I simply NEEDED to check out that Ingram!! They didn't focus on the individual bullets for the revolver though. Shame that they didn't find a way to get them to actually fire and shut her up.
-
That was really embarassing. I only made it 1 minute into the programme, long enough to get confirmation that they are in fact marketing the VF-22 as a "Macross Dynamite 7" thing. I'm sorry, but this kind of crap is the reason I never dare to turn on Japanese TV.

I remember Macross Perfect Memory has several pages devoted to the original scenario and episode run-down for "Battle Fortress Megaroad" which was over 50 episodes or something, and I vaguely seem to remember that it did end at the "Love flows away" episode. I do not have the book with me, but I have the CBR file.... somewhere. Maybe someone with easier access can check it?

I think you guys are being too hard on this. Adapting everything faithfully doesn't always make a good movie. The Da Vinci Code was pretty much the novel page for page, but in my opinion it made a suspenseful book into a tedious "ok let's go here now, and now let's move over here, and ok, next, let's fly off to..." runaround half-assed movie. I think Hollywood is trying to keep many aspects original so that you won't go, "Oh I know what happens next, 'cos I read it in X-Men issue whatever. Cyclops sits on a chair and then says "Alright, time for tea!" Oh my god, he asks for coffee in this movie?? BLEEDING HELL'S BELLS!!!"

No, it's just the awful Star Pro animators. It wasn't decided later, Studio Nue intended it to be a VF-1D from the beginning as the lineart for that episode clearly shows on page 69 of TIAS Macross Animation Materials Volume 2 (the RED one). It is even labelled VF-1D. Remember the same studio drew Roy's VF1S with a 1A head for some scenes of episode 3.

The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread

No-one's talking about this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnXcbc9bi-E I have to say... From what I can tell, Devastator in every meaning of the word, now officially does "suck". -
This... is intriguing. I'm starting to think this is another Kawamori retcon based on some deal with Yamato.

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.5
Renato replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I haven't replied in this thread for a while. Anyway, here's an update on my situation. I sent back the Michel to Bandai because of the loose crotch connector. I joked (not directly to them, though) that the way things are going now they would probably send me a replacement one with some other problem instead. Well, as bad luck would have it, the one I eventually got sent had an extremely loose, floppy right shoulder. Sigh. As for the crotch connector, well, it's not as tight as I would have hoped, but it is better, it doesn't just break in half on its own like the previous one. Then again, I have only transformed it a couple of times. To be honest, I can't even be bothered to anymore. I even thought about sending it back AGAIN, but I'm just too busy for these roulette games. I was in two minds about getting the fold booster, but enough is enough. No more money for you, Bandai. Or you, Yamato, looking smug in the corner. -
I started filing the rest of the issues into the binder last night (I had only done the first two or three issues). I was not planning to buy another Macross binder, rather just use a standard cheapo one. However, I just realized that there are hardly any binders on the market that use this three-ring design... They've obviously done this to make you buy their overpriced binder. And the pages aren't proper A4, which means you can't get around it by putting them into those plastic sleeves you can get... Argh. I might just have to make more holes in the pages to make them fit into a bog-standard binder. What is everyone else doing to try and by-pass the Official Macross binder rip-off and still file the sheets neatly?

I have wondered why this never got any attention on these boards ever since it was released. I would have thought it was a no-brainer. Yeah, I saw the whole thing ages ago and it's pretty cool, has a nice funky Hikaru Utada song, too (she manages to make one good kickass song for every three hundred crappy ballads she churns out, and it's great that this is one of the goodies). As with a lot of shows, though, the middle drags on and then ending just seems rushed. Not Megazone by any means, and no real "memorable" moments, but definitely worth checking out. Also, try to watch the "making of" documentary stuff, that's probably even more interesting!

If there was a live concert who would you see? *poll*
Renato replied to Vepariga's topic in Movies and TV Series
Basara and Fire Bomber every time. Yeah, Sheryl has good songs and everything, but at the end of the day, it's like asking me if I'd rather go see Mariah Carey or The Who. -
While I hate to ruin the party, I believe that translation is misleading (or plain wrong). If you ask me, the following line: ...means that (save for a few exceptions), the armour parts are fixed onto the toy (READ: non-removable), making it very stable and thus easy to pose. The part about the improvement over the transformation is correct, though, and judging by the photos they probably mean the hip area specifically.

Gah. Sorry. I'll keep looking.

Why is that? I just got off the phone with Yamato this afternoon to report ANOTHER problem with mine, the second in as many weeks. Never mind, in terms of the Fire Valk "making or breaking" this line, though, I would say they will probably sell better than the 25's, simply because it would be the only one in the market right now. The way the 25 is being milked in its many incarnations one shouldn't be surprised if they're not flying off the shelves, but this VF-19kai will only be the second transformable toy in existence for the design, so I would expect it to be a highly sought-after item. Bandai made a smart move in choosing that as their next design, rather than going down the all-too-familiar VF-1 path. Pity they didn't plan things this way with the Origin of Valkyrie 1/55 series. Instead of "too little too late", it was a case of "too much, too early".

Found a blog that goes out of its way to mention in passing that "just in case, Ohnogi is not involved with Macross F". http://d.hatena.ne.jp/negirin/20080602/1212422884 I know, it's just a blog, with no authority, but still. So I believe "officially", the only credit Ohnogi has received within Macross F is in episode 10, where he is listed as "script collaborator", but I think that is due to the direct references to Macross Zero's script within that episode, which was written by Ohnogi. Hmm.

OKAY, my interest? Officially piqued. I love all this behind the scenes staff rumours and ura-banashi stuff. I've been trying to put together an overview of who was responsible for what in the original SDF show for years. Since MacF is still a very new show... what do you say we just ask? It should not be so hard to just phone Satelight and ask to what extent Ohnogi was involved. The least they could say is that that is classified information. Ah, but then we'd have the government breathing down our backs... (And if it indeed is true that Ohnogi's involvement was minimal, then I really feel sorry for Final Vegeta who must have lost a lot of weight venting for nothing).

Ai Oboete Imasu Ka? Do You Remember Love? Lyrics

What does that mean?? -
Yeah, I believe that the M7 Trash volumes were translated and released in Italy as well.

I got a B on it. What I'm surprised at it that after hundreds of instant deaths because of Mikhael's one-shot wonder, what I finally managed to pass Miss Macross EX with... was an SS!! Seriously, I have no idea what happened. The SMS guys must've been asleep that time. What I still don't get is how do you manage to switch operators? People keep talking about maximising hearts and so on, but I have no idea what you actually have to do in the game to increase "trust" between your operator, your partner and yourself...
