Eh? I thought the covers were the same? Keith: That's not why we changed it, believe me!!

Argh, I pre-ordered the damn thing. Let's all laugh when I get the game in my hands but end up not being able to play it. Graham: Yeah, technically I got married in March. I think my honeymoon clashes with the Macross Crossover concert, the one with all the singers in it, which is a shame. Not that I could've gotten tickets anyway. Originally my wedding was scheduled to be on November 21st, and then that was announced to be the date of release of the Frontier movie! That's not why it changed, though...

Anyone else find it extremely ironic and insulting that Ichido is saying he doesn't care about Gubaba's translations 'coes he has his own, but is still asking him for a translation of THE F%%KING TITLE?? And in the same sentence, no less? Dude's got some 'tude, man.

UPDATE-DA!! Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES, YESSS, YYYEEEESSSSS!!! http://fukuyama-yoshiki.net/discography.html CONFIRMED: "Burning Fire" IS A NEW FIRE BOMBER SONG!!! Changing avatar to celebrate in 3... 2... 1... EDIT: It will be on the new Fire Bomber album, due out in October. Jesus, with the game, the album, the single with all the damn Macross singers on it and my honeymoon to Hawaii, October is gonna be hella expensive.... but sweeeeet!

Children's entertainment? I bet you this will be on at 2am or something. Ah, Kawamori, you keep wanting to try new things.... but come on. This looks awful. Just to play devil's advocate, though, everyone seemed to love Transformers Animated, and that looked like "My First Gobot" by Fisher-Price. OK, advocate mode off, I am not watching this, and for the record I cannot stand Animated. EDIT -- I was having trouble understanding the whole "Strawberry Shortcake" reference here and in the comments of the article page. That's because I didn't realise it was a greeting card character, I was thinking of this: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...nga.php?id=9518 It's a pretty unique, stylish manga, with an boringly mundane plot. It even became a movie a couple of years back: http://sitenoise-atthemovies.blogspot.com/...2006-japan.html ...Which looks neither stylish nor unique, yet retains the boredom. Plenty of random sex, if you like that kinda thing, though. Anyway, yeah, I just got confused, like "what are these people talking about? This is nothing like Strawberry Shortcake!"

Slightly miffed that Dynamite Explosion is the only new Macross 7 song they added this time, while there's craploads of Frontier tracks. And where are the Macross Zero songs? I'm sure they'll be there, the whole Birdman battle would be pointless otherwise. However.... The MUF theme song, "Burning Fire"?? That sounds really interesting, and Basara-like!

Thanks, both of these posts paint a clearer picture of the item now. -
She has been doing that for years, too.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Vol. 1
Renato replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
So what exactly is so great about this book? Or rather, how is it better than the Sky Angels Dojinshi? It's received overwhelmingly average reviews over at Amazon, with most of the complaints being stuff like "the CG art is cheap-looking / looks like PS2 graphics", or that it goes on and on with pilot interviews and pointless stuff while leaving out any mention of FAST Packs etc. entirely! Seriously? I am not very impressed so far... There's already a wealth of info on this machine not only from the 25 years+ of material released, but also the Chronicle keeps cranking out more and more stuff on it. Can we expect a proper review from somebody who has the book, so we know precisely what about it is worth 3000 yen? -
I had never understood why Bodolzaa let Minmay back on the Macross, and then is surprised when he is informed that she had "gone missing". Now I realize that they planned to use her to sing the song which he had found, with new added lyrics by the humans, and that would ultimately spell the end for the Meltran army. However, the lyrics were never completed (though, Misa would later break through with her translation of the lyric plate she found on the island), and Minmay "ran away". I had taken this to mean that she had run off the Zent ship by herself and somehow found her way back to the Macross, though that would be strange because the clear implication was that her presence in the press conference was meant to signify the aliens returning the hostages. In fact, that "ran away" and "missing" did not mean that she somehow left Zentradi captivity, but it actually meant that although she was supposed to sing anytime now, she had disappeared within the Macross. And apparently, only Hikaru could find her. And of course, only he would know she would run to the observation lounge thing. Phew.

The last post there was in 2007. Would you have read it if it had been posted there?

DYRL is a film I get entranced in. It's one of those rare things that once you start watching, you cannot pull your eyes away. I love the art in it, the music, everything. But yes, the story is too complex, and the character development is next to nil, unfortunately. It still pulls me back in with each viewing because I always find some tiny detail I missed the first 300 times I saw it. In fact, I was just talking to Yellowlightman about this the other day: there was actually a plot point that, in all the times I viewed the film, I never understood regarding Minmay which I finally, finally understood the last time I watched it, a few months ago. My wife is not into anime, sci-fi or anything so I had to explain stuff for hours after viewing, and it was tough. But hearing my own explanations helped me to complete the dots about the points I had missed. You're certainly not a spoon-fed in this film, that's for sure. But it is, nevertheless, excellent.

Scooped-dah! http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...039&st=1760 I wouldn't call it a single from any "series", I think of it as one of those one-off things, like the "Friends: Jikuu wo koete" single from 1997 or 98 where she sang a duet with Tomo "Mylene" Sakurai (not the "singing Mylene, though, unfortunately).

This has been on the TV news non-stop over here. I didn't know it was the same Noriko Sakai who did all those anime shows, though, I just didn't put the two together for some reason. The thing that I found interesting is that she took her 10-year-old son with her...whom they found last night -- apparently she had asked an "acquaintance" to take care of him for a while. So her whereabouts are still unknown. She's had plenty of ups and downs, there were rumours her marriage was on the rocks, not to mention her father dying some years back and also her boss committed suicide at some point... I don't exactly know very much about her, but she is apparently well-known and loved over here so I hope she's OK, and doesn't do anything stupid. EDIT -- Hey, didn't she actually *play* the role of Noriko Takaya in the anime? Or was that somebody else?

Actually, when it mentions that Ogotai shares a similar appearance to Britai, it reads クローニングのためか, which means "possibly due to cloning..." As usual, it makes me think the editors do not really have that much more information than we do. EDIT -- Just got the new issue today, the Zentradi army illustration is amazing, it reminds me of a Votoms poster. Also, next issue will feature the long-awaited return of the Gallery pages, with Macross 7 Trash, no less!

Argh. It was supposed to link to my post the other day on this page: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...20&start=20 Never mind. It's a bit more complicated than that. There are so many types of PSP motherboards out there now, there are some which are "unhackable". It seems someone found a flaw in Firmware 5.03 or something and used that to run something called an "exploit" on the RAM which allows for Custom Firmware to run, but it looks like Sony wasted no time in sawing up that little tear with the newer 5.50 Firmware. And now 5.55 is coming out. I know, the hackers do eventually find some way around these things, but I got my PSP way back in October last year, I think, and it took a long time for them to find this little flaw. Sony's protection is getting better and better. But that's kind of cool, I guess, kind of like added pressure. It just sucks that I'm again only going to manage to begin playing the game when all you guys have already completed it over and over and maxed out all the stats, just like last year.

I've been following this issue from the beginning here and on MG, but now I honestly don't understand what's going on anymore. I might be the only one, I don't know. My understanding so far is that Shaloom is back running MG and I believe WD1 is one of the new mods and/or admin, correct? But his stance is unclear to me. WD1, you're talking about words being twisted and implications and whatnot, but I cannot see any specifics anywhere. Please simplify exactly what it is you are trying to say, in a concise, clear manner. As for the blog URL, it's in Gubaba's sig, I hope that's the one you want. EDITED for clarity (hey, I can't preach what I don't practise!)

Yeah, the Macross Ace Frontier disc last year came with a Firmware upgrade tool (so you didn't need to connect online) which you had to use if you wanted to play the game. I'm certain this new game is going to be the same deal. But since I've been playing the second (after MAF) most fantastic Macross game experience ever for the first time in years and years here, I don't really want to give it all up yet. Here's hoping we get the best of both worlds by the time of release.
-
Yeah, it's something that I think was mentioned in the second Famitsu article a couple of weeks ago. Apparently they will be releasing a special version of the game to commemorate the release of the movie. They haven't actually said anything about what makes it special yet, though it's just a case of "watch this space!" One thing I'm starting to dread is that they will no doubt tell you to upgrade to Firmware 5.55 to play the game, and I really don't want to do that... Not that I'm anywhere near finished with Ace Frontier to go on to the next game yet.
-
I would like to see this, too. But I think most likely somebody just misread 決定版 (definitive edition)as 限定版 (limited edition), on the scan of that Figure Oh article. If it does end up being limited I am going to be so furious...

San Diego Comic Con International 2009 thread
Renato replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Onto children, though? As for the vid, I dunno, the part where he throws the box against the wall gave me a shock, but rewinding it a bit shows an edit cut just before, so I don't think they're in there. Having said that, I wouldn't want him to be my dad. I get the feeling his kids will be school bullies. -
Yar!!! Almost five years since any post on this thing. I'm sure we're all older and wiser.... Anyway, I FINALLY after all these years sat down to play my long-lost copy of DYRL the PS1 game (which I brought back from my latest trip to London last year), this time on the PSP. I was quite anxious as to whether that "shy" Meltrandi boss on the Protoculture ruins level would fail to appear again, but no, he did show up! And I managed to play through the entire game (on easy, the hardest level is the first, go figure!) in a couple of sittings, and completed it on the train. My question is now... does anyone know if the latest version of ePSXe has fixed the "shyboss" issue? I could of course, just sit down and play it, but I usually only play on trains and buses and stuff, haven't really played home videogame in ages, so it might take a while, and ample use of save states. All in all, this is my favourite Macross game apart from Mac Ace Frontier. I'm taking a break from MAF for a while because of that darned Skull Leader/Pine Salada EX mission where Milia kills you instantly. Here's a couple of pics: EDIT -- Oh yeah, I forgot a couple of things. When I completed the game on Easy the other day I got an "Option Plus" feature which allows you to select and play back all the movie files. I seem to remember vaguely when I completed the game twice or three times on an actual PS console all those years ago (back in 2001 or 2002), that more and more options appear each time, and the only ones I remember is "MUTEKI" invincibility on/off, and also a Minmay doll randomly appearing and dancing throughout the end credits... Does anyone know any more? EDIT 2 -- Yeah, the second "VF-X1" disc in the photo is actually a demo disc. I don't really remember anything about it, but I will post if and when I ever play it again. [shudder]

I noticed that some of the gunpods and stuff on the YF-21 and VF-22 is made by "Howard" on one model, and "Hughes" on the other. Hmm..

Me too! I bought a PSP 2000 last year just to play Mac Ace Frontier and it is pretty much the only thing I have been playing since Christmas. I actually got Metal Gear Portable Ops at the same time, but I have not played that for more than one or two hours, heh. I really did my homework and caught up on as much as I could about homebrew and emulators, etc, before I bought it, but I still got stuck with that dreaded TA-88v3 motherboard. Still, I had no complaints, because Mac Ace Frontier really was worth it and more. And just last week I discovered something called ChickHEN... Well, needless to say I now think the PSP is an awesome machine of unparalleled potential. I have all those excellent SNES classics like Mario All-Stars, Axelay (which runs a bit slow, unfortunately), Super Aleste, Zelda, etc.... Plus I'm watching my way through Ulysses 31. I never sat down to watch it properly until now..

The theme song to M.A.S.K. had a second verse!
Renato replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks, David. It's not actually longer, or at least there is no additional stuff. It might just be some alternate recording, if anything.
