I decided to go to the Osaka one tomorrow. I might get a T-shirt and DVD, but I'm not so sure.

Bear in mind that last picture posted by Ivan shows the Wave lineup of 1/100 kits, not the Bandai toys. Just pointing that out to avoid any confusion.

Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
Renato replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hi, "Rentato" here I haven't seen the movie yet, and I am ignoring most pages and posts on this thread just to be on the safe side. I was not going to watch it at all (I just wasn't going to pay craploads of money on something I already saw on TV), then I was on the fence for a while (because I wanted to see all the detail of Island 1 etc on a big screen) and then I remembered that on the 1st of every month the movies are 1000 yen so I think I will go see it next week. I will be by myself though, as nobody I know likes this stuff. Unless someone here is in the Kyoto area next Tuesday...? -
Already on Episode 3?? Sorry I'm really late to the party. I will give my opinions on eps 1 and 2 at a later date, then. Anyway, I love episode 3, it is probably my favourite of the early bunch. It addresses the nagging notion which viewers have up to now likely felt of "why doesn't he just SHOOT THE BAD GUYS???" After Basara knocks out all the Mosaic/Q&K fans, we realize, "Holy crap, he could just take on anyone if he wanted to!" And that makes him a more respectable character, in my opinion. "I have to get through to them with my song!" He is dead-set on his goal and knows it's an uphill struggle, but he is still going at it strong, convincing one handful of people at a time. As VFTF1 pointed out, the end of the episode marks the first "happy ending" to an episode for Basara. He is finally getting somewhere in his quest. I also love the lingering shot of him staring out of the window on the train, while on the monitor Max and Miria fight about bureaucracy, and behind him the Mosaic/Q&K fans fight about their tastes in music. You know that what is going through his head is "why are people so quick to anger each other? Why do they insist on arguing about nothing?? How can I stop this??" At least that was the impression I got. That shot is in there for a reason. And the first of many arguments at Basara's apartment is just pure genius scriptwriting, and probably what I love the most about the show, besides the music itself. Mylene's hyperactive excitement meets Basara's laid-back "so, who cares? Not in the mood" attitude and that sparks off a whole "Don't you understand?? Fire Bomber is finally going to make a major debut!" debate. Basara replies, 「何だそれ?」which can be translated simply as "What is that?" but can imply "What are you talking about? Who cares about that? That has no meaning." Also, I should bring up the point that by this point we have seen Mylene in a red sports car, many different outfits and we have seen that she is the daughter of Max and Miria, the two most important people in Macross 7 (though we have not seen where she lives just yet). To juxtapose, Basara lives in the slums of Akusho where you cannot even access properly by car because you have to go down a bunch of stairs, plus all the buildings are decrepit and it appears that Basara and Ray have an entire apartment building to themselves, which seems about to collapse at any moment. Basara wears the same rags every day and sits in his destroyed apartment writing music all day. The meeting of Mylene and Basara and their interaction is enjoyable to watch because these two individuals could not be any more different. They both want to make music but when their lifestyles and ways of thinking are so drastically distinct from each other, it's a wonder they even talk the same language. Basara is simplistic and wants music to go straight to the heart of the people. Mylene is all about making music everybody can enjoy, and realizing a dream to be a superstar, for which you have to work hard, be opportunistic, make some sacrifices to secure some deals, care for your image, and all the commercialism and materiaism that goes along. As well as this, if we hark back to episode 2 for a change, she is well aware that entertainment has its place and dangerous things like flying valkyries in warzones ought to be left to the soldiers. Or rather, that is what her upbringing/life experience has taught her. Basara wants to challenge all of these things using just pure music. I think this third episode really sets everything up in terms of the battle between ideologies which is the main conflict in the show. I don't think it is a show about aliens and robots, as much as it is a cry for help in a society of abundance, of over-saturation, of commercialism, of disposeable things... "Don't think... feeel."

Just picked up the issue. "Yea" on the MacII destroids. Actually, this is the first time I have seen lineart for them (as for most of the MII stuff, in fact). Kind of interesting. The Tomahawk II looks a lot like that Neo Nousjadeul Ger or whatever from the M2036 videogame. And I notice that a few of them have skates/rollers on the feet like the Cheyennes would later on. The Monster II looks pretty stupid, though.

Handhelds all the way. I don't even have time to watch TV except during breakfast, so there's no way I'm buying a console. I'd have to buy a new TV, too, because mine is tiny. That said, I have the Dreamcast and PS2 Mac games but no machines to play them on....

I felt that the best twist is actually incorporating elements of the later episode when Misa shoots down Hikaru by accident. Basically, without spoiling anything (although, how can I?), in this version, after Roy yells at Claudia to concentrate on the search for Hikaru and Claudia says that they've got 50,000 civilians in the shelter to bring into the ship, it is Misa who feels responsible for losing trace of VT-102 because it was through her actions and decisions that a civilian became involved in the battle, and now he is MIA. This, along with a heightened sense of tension in Hikaru that I felt as he was faced with the monumental task of finding a way out of the ship, actually give a deeper insight into the characters. This one was very well done indeed. As for 7th Chord... half of the time I cannot tell what is going on. Haven't looked at the rest properly yet, but apparently there is a story with Isamu meeting Alto's dad...

EPISODE 1 I ended up watching this during breakfast this morning. First of all, cosmetics: check out the opening. Notice it is different to the rest of the series in some scenes. It appears they were trying to hide the "guitar-stick" aspect of the Fire Valk and keep it a surprise until the last act of the episode. Also, there is a change in the very last scene: in the original VHS/LD/DVD releases, there is no "to be continued" at the end of this first episode, while the remasters have put it into the last couple of seconds, cutting out a few frames of animation. Urgh... my arms are really tired from typing so I will be back later, sorry...

The only way I will find time to watch any of this anytime soon is in the form of a 3 or 4 episode mini-marathon while on the train with my PSP on Monday and Tuesday. So if I manage that, I will post my impressions after that. I'm actually really looking forward to it!

Discussion is seeping over to the subject of the Crossover Live, let us keep this topic to the petition talk. -
Keith, stop complaining, these days you can just watch the show on Youtube with great subs! Anyway, I have to commend VFTF1 for starting a potentially great thread. I remember back when the Animeigo SDF Mac sets were announced and everyone was really excited and planning to sit down and have a Macross marathon on live chat (back when MW had a chatroom), but that never materialised. And it WAS fun to talk about Frontier as it aired last year. So yeah, great idea. I have not seen the show in ages either and this week I won't have time (nor the rest of the month in fact), but I would like to participate here and there. I would like to say, though, one episode a week.... how about two a week?

I'm gonna ask this guy to just type in Japanese so at least the MW translators can make sense of what he's saying. So far, I know he wants us to sign a petition for an M7 sequel, although the target is 1000 and has been going for quite a while and yet has only 200 with a month left. -
The subject is "it" (the shuttle), even though it is only implied, I chose to include it in the English translation for clarity. And often those question marks are just for cosmetic purposes. The fact that it's presented like a footnote first and foremost should take precedence, I do not think they are actually asking a question.

Yeah, I have put "Full Armoured Thunderbolt" every single time under "what would you like us to make next?" when I sent back those Yamato questionnaires throughout the years and now it really seems we're just a step away. NNNnnngghh!! OMAE NI RABU HAAAAAATO!!!!!

I saw those stickers in the unfortunately-titled "Gay-Maga" magazine a couple of days ago. I might have bought the magazine if they had a Valkyrie or at least other characters like Hikaru or Basara on them. Actually the Macross feature in the magazine is aimed towards "new fans" who have been introduced to the Macross franchise through Ultimate Frontier and the Frontier TV show and explained that it's worth checking out the rest. -
Wow, so she had already posthumously married Guld even before meeting Gamlin. Huh, now there's a twist.

Fukuyama's is custom-made. There is only one in existence. -
I know, my original question was HOW to unlock her, though...

And yet... one of the most expensive in the REAL universe.

Let's just say it's difficult to love an unrepentful serial killer.

Doesn't make a difference, the fact remains that Mari Iijima was the only once pronouncing the name correctly in the dub, and either nobody else noticed or didn't care. Moreover, the English pronunciation of "Macross" had already been established in the dubs for MacPlus and MacII, so they ignored/forgot about those too? I agree with SkullLeaderVFX, it sounds like they were trying to screw it up on purpose.
